Oh Micheal... I am heartbroken for you.  I am so, so sorry for your loss.  I wish I had greater words.  I am so sorry.

Thank you for the kind words. This has just been a hard year for everyone in one way or another. But no matter how bad things are, it could always be worse.  Just remember the blessings you have.

Of course it's mind boggling... all of this, country wide, is mind boggling.   The damage done by shutting down our country is irreparable.  From businesses that took generations to build, but whose doors have now closed permanently, loved ones who have died alone in hospitals because family was not let in to advocate for them, loved ones who will die because they were either too afraid to see the doctor or their exam/procedure was deemed non-essential (case in point, by sister-in-law had to wait three months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer to have the tumor removed, because it was "non-essential"), to the substantial increase in depression and suicide rates, increase in addictions and domestic abuse.... the list just goes on and on.  Not to mention, the fear that has been driven down the throats of so many Americans.... even though the CDC admitted that tainted tests were sent out (resulting in false positives).  Even though the CDC states that a test is not necessary to diagnosis SARS-CoV-2, but that symptoms alone could be used to make a diagnosis... symptoms that are so wide spread that every viral infection on the books has at least one of the symptoms used to substantiate a covid diagnosis.  Even though the CDC director stated that hospitals had monetary incentives for reporting hospital admissions and deaths as covid (making the connection between symptomatic diagnoses and reported admissions and/or deaths very easy to see).  Even though the CDC has reported that only 6% of the "covid deaths" were deaths from the virus, the remaining 94% died with covid, not from covid.   Even though the CDC has come out to say that the overwhelming majority of the populations has a 99.9% recovery rate should they contract the virus and that those who are at risk are in a demographic of ages 70 and older.  A demographic that is retired as has the flexibility to stay at home and isolate, if they so choose.

Mind boggling does not begin to define what some in country have been forced to do and what others have so quickly just handed over.

I blame covid 19 for killing my dad. Even though he tested  negative for it. We were unable to see the bad care he was getting in a nursing home that he went in to for 30 days of physical therapy. He got a bed sore that started tunneling into him and since he was fighting prostate cancer there was nothing they could do for him. He passed away at the end of June and I don't think my mom will ever be the same. They had just had there 50th wedding anniversary in March.  There was supposed to be a big party, but due to covid it was postponed. Thank goodness my daughter made them a cake.

Unfortunately, TCD Twin #1 got the call last week that she is one of the 28,000. We are all gutted. Two college programs, both at WDW and DL, and three years of hard work since graduating from college, and she has been kicked to the curb so Disney can afford to pay their executives and shareholders and sit on billions of dollars of cash in hopes of buying up some bargains in the coming economic crisis.

For now, Twin #2 remains employed in the Disney HR department, but she suspects that will only last as long as it takes to clean up the little messes caused by firing tens of thousands of employees. Then she will get kicked to the curb in another wave of layoffs.

They grew up foolishly believing that Disney would reward them for their love, hard work, and effort.

It turns out that Disney is just another money grubbing heartless corporation. What a tough lesson to learn at 25.

I am so sorry to hear that, I was hoping they would make it through.

My neighbor had heard she is in the laid off list.  30 plus years with WDW!  She will lose her silver pass and insurance.  Maybe she will be hired back.  I hope if people are hired back they will receive their seniority they have already earned.  The kick in the gut for her is a man hired many years after she was, trained by her did not get laid off.

Not  surprising  he probably makes less money then her and she did such a good job with training he can do the job.

I’ll say it again… Instead of cutting entertainment, employees, etc.

cut the prices of their tickets. They’re giving us a subpar product and still charging the same price.

It will bring more people to the parks and those people will spend money on meals and merchandise

But they don't need more people right now they just need there money. They need to cut cost that doesn't bring in revenue. That said I think Bod did make them money selling drinks.

I disagree with those who think Disney+ isn’t worth it. The series on the guy who collects Disney memorabilia and the series documenting the making of Frozen 2 are excellent. I’ve enjoyed watching movies that I never saw in theaters, and had no interest in purchasing, like Tron and Tron Legacy (now I’m ready for the new attraction).  I’ve watched quite a few of the non-MCU Marvel movies like both Fantastic 4 movies and the X-men movies.  I think it’s great and a bargain.

I agree I think I paid $140 for 3 years. My daughter loves it and it's nice to have a streaming service that has family entertainment. We can always find a movie to watch on the weekend. We also have Netflix and prime video,  never watch either one.

Here’s a link where you can see the official Meadow Trading Post hours of operation:

    https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/shops/campsites-at-fort-wilderness-resort/meadow-trading-post/

Be forewarned that you may be turned away from visiting to shop depending on who is working the guard shack. They have been very restrictive in allowing visitors due to the pandemic.

So all these years the only thing we needed to fix the Fort was a pandemic.

, but don’t miss Trails End for takeout- they let you eat your meal inside the restaurant, which makes for a very nice atmosphere.

So how was that eating inside? My wife isn't really wanting to eat inside yet we have figured out the whole trip where we won't eat inside. (Although with my job I am sure I have been in worse situations) Was there a lot of people eating inside?

    I agree.

And Disney has chosen to squeeze the passholders by charging them the same price despite reduced hours, no entertainment, no parades, no park hopping, and limited access to the parks.

I don’t see them backing off on any of that. Instead I think we will see them double down with more schemes to try to lure in new money.

They are not thinking about the future. They’re thinking about this one quarter at a time. Those in charge are all still getting paid their bloated compensation while hanging castmembers and passholders out to dry.  The shareholders are happy for now, but this plan isn’t sustainable.

    TCD

While I do agree a lot has been cut from the parks, even so with what a Fla resident pays for a AP it's still a bargain compared to what the rest of the country pays when they come for just a week.  To be honest if the parks would have reopened in the cooler months with those short wait times I would have already been there. But I won't do Disney in the summer anymore. But Fall is calling my name.

OK. One was lucky enough to work in a department where remote work is possible. Disney sent her a laptop, docking station and two monitors, and she has been working full time for about a month. The other just attained status at City Hall prior to the shutdown. They have called those castmembers back by seniority, and she’s near the end of that list unfortunately.  They share an apartment and have been good with their money, so they will be okay for a while. It’s very hard and stressful on the one still furloughed.

Glad your girls are doing ok. I am always amazed that I see them when we are there. Although i don't think they recognize me anymore.

The trail to the lodge is GONE.  It was torn up to install water pipes.  You can see they are planning on reinstalling it since they've installed new concrete spillways along the route.  Lots of work to get done and at least while we were there, no sign of any new work being done.  Looks like it will be a while.  The water pipes are not installed, just laying on the ground and some big holes dig in a few locations.

Thanks, so sad we will miss riding bikes, and walking to the lodge.

We just got back today from 9 days at the Fort.  The boats were running regularly to and from the Magic Kingdom, two boats.  At least while we were there, they were boarding well over 4 families and they were allowing people to sit outside in the front as well as the back.  They have a sign saying the bus to the Magic Kingdom leaves from the Settlement.  The bus to Wilderness Lodge also leaves from the Settlement now and runs the old route, using the road between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge.

Until Friday, the campground was empty.  Starting Thursday night it started to fill up.  Today, all loops are open and full.  It was a madhouse Thursday night.  Golf carts driven by kids lucky they didn't kill anybody.  For Friday the Rangers were out all day directing traffic and enforcing the mask rules.  Much better.

Was the trail open that goes to the lodge?
