  1. I am another one of the B&W fanboys...I simply love my companion hitch. I have had great customer support from them with questions after the sale and would not hesitate to purchase another one in the event I needed a new hitch. I must admit I was tempted with the Andersen hitch when it came out but I just couldn't bring myself to make a change.

We have an awesome hitch with our bumper pull, so our stability is pretty strong however... on cement highways, we get some of that push/pull tug that I'm guessing might go away with a 5'er.

You can still get a little bit of an annoying rocking\chicking with a 5th wheel. Once 475 merges back with 75 south of Macon the new road is spaced just right for our camper to ride terrible. We have a constant rocking\chicking back and forth that will not go away no matter what speed we run. I guess its just the pavement is spaced perfect for our truck and trailer to get in a rhythm and cant get out of it. It's funny for about 10 minutes but after that it loses its humor.

  3. It take a little getting used to because they track different than a bumper pull but roads have yet to be an issue for us.
Around here campsite size can be a bit more of an issue but if you plan well and do a little research ahead of time you can usually figure that stuff out. I think our 5er is just under 43 feet and while we have sized our self out of some campsites, the size benefits far outweigh that. We also tend to stick to more "resort" type campgrounds rather than state or federal parks and that helps with the size issues as well. Most recent campgrounds are designed to accommodate larger RV's.

But for $50 per person, you can grab the magical mystical Fort Wilderness Express Cigarette Racer Boat!

MK to FW in less than 3 minutes.  They thumb their nose at the no wake zones and have priority passageway over all other watercraft!

I would do that once if it were an option :)
We had a boat captain in October that did not pay any attention to the no wake zone and it was a much quicker ride! It was right after the fireworks one night with a full boat, the wife and I both couldn't believe he went through there like that.

  5. This makes me mad......

Sources familiar with the teenagers and the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly about the case say the two boys are friends and live in Anderson County. The boys were hiking on the Chimney Tops trail in the park on Nov. 23 and tossing lit matches onto the ground around the trail, the sources said.

    Was this recently?

Because I saw no enforcement at all of any decoration curfew over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Lots and lots of sites had their inflatables up and Christmas lights on all night long.  And those star shower projectors have become all the rage.  Seems like everyone has one now, and people leave those on all night long too.  The guy right next to me had two that he had on all night.

It was the last week or so. I went back and tried to look for the post but was unable to find it due to the amount of posts in the group(s).

One initial comment I have about these decorations is that I was here at the site at 7:32 am, and all the inflatables and some of the lights were all still on, and had been up all night. When I checked in on Wednesday, I was given parking passes and other documents by the cast member, along with a little document telling me about mosquitos and a fee can of insect repellant.  What I did not get was any handout that had the published decorating rules that they tried to implement a few years ago.  It looks like these folks were observing some kind of set-back rule, but they clearly were not shutting down the decorations at night.  Did that rule change?   I think it did, because there were a lot of decorations and lights that were left up and on all night over the time we were visiting

I saw someone in a Facebook group recently received a nastygram from the rangers about decorations being on after midnight. Apparently there is at least one ranger that will enforce the possible rule.

  8. The storms that rolled through last night were strong and there was 1 tornado in it. The high winds kicked up 18 new fires in the mountains but I believe the new ones were contained fairly fast. It has been a good steady rain all day and I hope that it is helping extinguish the mess in that area.
I did see on the news earlier that the Red Cross has asked that people stop bringing up water\food\supplies as of now. Apparently they have received more than they know what to do with (not a bad problem in this case) and aren't real sure where to store it all.

So far Dollywood has not had any fire damage luckily, and the new resort appears to have escaped damage as well. This is a picture that was taken 2 nights ago when the fires started breaking out in Pigeon Forge as well:

  9. Oh the life of a VOLS fan....
The loss to Vandy was a nice ending to a terrible season...one that should have been MUCH better. If we had an AD the ol' champion of life himself might be on a hot seat, but since we don't he will continue his mediocre way here at Tennessee. I'm betting we do see some coaching changes and sadly the DC won't be one of them since this was his first year here.
You know, if we hadn't recovered a big fumble during the Appy State game, and didnt get so darn lucky at Georgia we'd be sitting at 6-6 this year and that would be bad for Lyle in his 4th year. Life champions or not that buffoon would be gone by regressing that bad.

Oh.... question:  does anyone know, if you plug your a/c into a generator, but put your fridge on gas....does the fan in fridge use the battery or will it pull from the generator??

The fridge will use the battery on the camper. However, if your camper is plugged into a generator then the campers converter will keep the battery charged just like if you were plugged into the campground.
And just FYI - even though you have your fridge running on propane, it still needs 12v to run the control board and keep the propane going. If your battery runs down your fridge will turn off.

Thanks... yes, Maxxis is what we've decided on.  I'll crawl under and measure but help me understand... am I measuring from the middle of the axle out?

You will want to measure from the center of one axle to the center of the other axle. This is the best picture I could find that kinda shows what I mean. They are measuring from the center of one hub to the center of the hub on the other axle.

  12. My 2 cents is go with Maxxis 8008's unless you are moving up to a 16" tire (obviously you are not doing that). I had several thousand miles of great service from our Maxxis tires on our older bumper pull camper.

That tire wear looks a LOT like an alignment issue. While not quite as easily address on a camper it can cause problems. I would start with looking at measurements from the center of 1 hub to the center of the the 2nd hub on one side of the trailer. Take the same measurements on the other side of the camper and see how close they are. You might be able to do this with the wheels\tires on, but you can get a much more accurate measurement with them off. If those measurements on both sides are identical, or really close, you can scratch alignment off the list.

    Edit to add:
If the bushings in the leaf springs are worn out\failing they can cause alignment issues, and this would be something to check if your measurements show different on each side of the camper.
It's also possible that the axles are just out of alignment and there are products to help with that... Example: Clicky

I don't want to sound too much like Larry, but this sort of thing is something that I consider to be a high priority.
