  1. Sounds awesome!

For pulling and turning, I was told that you watch the trailer wheels on the inside. Once they pass whatever obstruction there is- you can then safely turn as sharp as you need to. It was really helpful for me to learn when I could turn. It becomes natural after a while.

Otherwise, for practice in a parking lot, I never wanted to spend the money on a 100 traffic cones or even soccer field markers. Someone said to take a few gallons of water and red solo cups. Fill them a little to give them ballast and they won't blow over/away. If you run over a few, no harm, no foul.

Just know that backing in- the pivot point is in the middle of your truck bed. That point has to move side to side before the camper's rear will move side to side. Give yourself a couple of extra feet that you'll have to back up before the camper responds. I tend to pull up to where I think I need to be, and then another 6' or so.

Small corrections are your friend. My big mistake for a LONG time (and I'm still guilty) is that I'll way turn the wheel in either direction. I laughed one day thinking that my truck looked like windshield wipers in front of the camper - back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Small corrections win.

Glad things seem to be going well with the new camper! Congrats!

  2. Thanks TCD for sharing my post. We have been to Disney a few times now with friends and while we haven't ever been assigned an actual "buddy" site, as long as Disney gets you two side-by-side, you should be fine. There isn't a shared area at any of them.

We like the 800 loop and the sites around 860. They're fairly spacious and you get a decent amount of space.

We also did sites in the 1300s and had a super deep site there. It was nice when we had a few friends (3 families, 12 people) over to hang out for an evening. We took our truck up to the overflow parking and really had a nice space.

I'm impressed by the Fort's response to the situation. Sad there's not better communication, but looks like they hit a home run with trying to make do.

I'm over at the Contemporary and there was a note in the room about the burn ban and all Disney camp fires are cancelled. I can see why the boat captain said what he did based on how the wording was. I'll snap a picture later today.

    Here it is:

    That's a beautiful photo.

I believe it was taken from around the location of the Luau at the Polynesian Village Resort.  I can see the bungalows there on the right.

Thanks for the kind words and yes, that's exactly it. We went to the Luau back in January for the first time. We enjoyed the show.

So, anyone else have one? Looking back on January pictures, I didn't take anything specifically for this thread...

  6. We really liked both Flamingo Lake and Kathyrn Hannah Abby which are both in Jacksonville.

Camp Gulf was painfully expensive but really nice. Especially being right on the beach (no pets allowed).

Even Peace River in Zolofo Springs, FL was nice. There were some nice things around, but it was a pretty quiet stay for us (early April).

I have friends who really like Three Flags in Wildwood, FL. Peach River, Three Flags, and the TT Orlando (towards Clermont) location are all Thousand Trails parks. I don't know if you're a member or not.

Do you have a large grab bar outside?  If so, reach through your screen door and close the grab bar (so it's over the screen door).  This way, he won't be able to push open the screen door and fall down the stairs.

We did this for my son. Worked a treat.

We also found that my son could push the screen out. We put a piece of Plexiglass into the door so that the load was spread out.

  8. Oh man, how could you ever survive in such a big camper?! I mean, my 42' fifth wheel is about as big as I want to go. (sarcasm- I'd consider up to 44').

We've stayed on 600, 800, and 1300. 1326 was probably the biggest site I've been on. Great angle for backing in. Even 600 wasn't bad- my wife was mute from a recent surgery and we were able to do it via translations from my then 12-year old daughter. 800 were a little tight and came down to lack of vehicles in the way; but we just did it in the dark (which is a huge rarity for us).

We have friends who love the 400 loop.

Basically, take what you get- see how it looks when you pull up to it. And worst case, bail out and ask for a new site. Biggest thing is- don't get angry, that's no way to start a trip! :)

Otherwise, don't know if this will help:

  9. Hmmm.

The two DVC members we have going to the party both don't even have AP's?

Are events like this counter-productive for Disney?

Why don't they put on things like this for AP holders who are forking over money to Disney instead of DVC members who aren't?

    TCD

I think it's beneficial. I don't have APs now but that's because I am leaving Florida with no plans on returning for at least a year.

However, once I use my DVC membership- I'll almost definitely have tickets of some sort (unless we go to Hawaii).
