  1. Im glad you posted and I found others opinions interesting.  One of the reasons I fell in love with Disney World was how they accommodate people with dietary restrictions due to health reasons or choice.   My daughters multiple food allergies are severe enough to end in the ER or worse so we eat almost all our meals at home where I can almost guarantee her safety.  We shy away from processed foods due to cross contamination and mislabeled ingredients.  Years ago, before my children were in the picture, I became a vegan due to how dairy/meats made me feel and it has been a blessing in disguise as it helped me understand how certain foods were dangerous to our daughter.  I was scared to death on our first trip to DW but knew we had to give it a try after all the awesome reviews.   The chefs are beyond awesome and truly understand the severity of overlooking one wrong ingredient for someone with an allergy or health issue.  Its so nice to have a normal vacation like everyone else and its AWESOME to not have to cook 3 meals a day from scratch.  Most chefs enjoy the challenge to create a culinary masterpiece outside of the normal menu, chef TJ being the perfect example.

That being said, I do worry that one day the special attention we receive will fall victim to abuse in a similar fashion the GAC cards were  subjected to. Until that point, I will continue to be loyal to Disney just so my daughter can sit with everyone else and enjoy the fireworks with a safe treat that I didn't have to go above and beyond to obtain.  She misses out on so many other childhood experiences and I feel blessed with  the experience Disney provides us on every visit.  Hoping chef TJ is available on on her birthday in a couple weeks, it will be magical!

  2. As a vegan with a kid who has severe food allergies I am looking forward to our Trails End dinner for Kellens birthday.  Im in a Veg disney group and Allergy Disney group and both are all about Chef TJ!  This will be our first experiece with him if we are lucky, fingers crossed we get him!  Apparently, reservations at 4:30-4:45 increase your likelyhood of TJ having time to prepare his masterpiece for you.

  3. Singer is sold.

But I just checked Walmart.com and they have a few basic models for under $100. And like Carol said. If it can do a straight and zig zag stitch it'll be fine. And down the road, if see really likes sewing, we can buy her a nicer machine.

    Don't you think?

Agree!  I  started with a basic machine a few years back and upgraded once I became more confident.  Go for the cheaper Singer or Brother brand for now and throw in a gift card to your local craft/sewing so she can get started with her own stash!

  4. Kelly, Because I am such a nice person (don't believe me, just ask me and I will tell you) and due to the fact that I want to be like Dave when I grow up, I will make you this offer... I will drive down my motorhome from the Raleigh area to the Fort... you just pay for gas there and back, for the site to park it on and I won't charge you anything for its use. It comes complete with a comfy king size bed, full bath, kitchen, and living room... All I ask is that you put me up in the Contemporary or the Wilderness Lodge during your stay...

    How's that for a deal?!

How generous of you!  I really appreciate the offer and because you are so kind to offer I can swing by and tow it down so that itwouldn't be such an inconvenience.  We are only about a hour from Apex :)

  5. Correct End, however I'll be at the Fort and my parents are not military. Technically we could do it but Shades requires the military personnel to be present. Last thing I need is for something to go wrong and to get in trouble with DOD. Last thing I need to tell my hubs about while he's deployed. However, my grandmother who is now living with them and may be in the area during that time visiting her sister while we do Disney, is the widow off a retired vet so they could use her if she wants to visit her sister. That's going to depend on how bad her dementia is at that point,..

  6. We are planning a trip for early May and I've convinced my parents to come along for their first visit since taking me 30 years ago. I plan on staying at the Fort in our TT on a premium site. Its a small trailer so they would prefer their own space. What are some of their options, anything you all have tried and can recommend. I'm thinking they could even stay at somewhere outside Disney. I also have thought about renting a larger RV to get us all together but I'm worried about bed quality, I need something that isn't going to feel like I'm sleeping on a brick and so does my dad. Any ideas or suggestions would be great!
