halla got a reaction from morrik5 in New Loop maps with numbers and sizes
The touring plans site was the only one I could find that showed the actual sites.  I can work on it down the road.

halla got a reaction from VFWMC in New Loop maps with numbers and sizes
I know there are a few ways to figure out what loop you want etc... but the three loops we stay in usually are 600, 1200, 1300.  I wanted an overlay with the site number and sizes.  I borrowed the map from Touringplans and used the Fort Fiends app for the site sizes.  I thought if everything was on one page it might make it easier.  At this point I would have to wait for a future trip to layout more loops, if anyone would have an interest in a similar map for the loops.

Please let me know what you think, feedback is always great.

halla reacted to Starbuc71 in A few observations Thanksgiving week
I thought I'd post a thread where fiends could post things strange, new or whatever during thanksgiving week. Here a few I saw
    1.
this was only parked for a day near the DVC kiosk. Never saw it before.
    2.
new whatever's being built by the lodge.  Back when I was here in July, they were just clearing the land.  They look huge.  I think I counted 16 on each side of the lodge
    3. Empty sites
as of Tuesday morning, there are 13 empty sites on the 2000 loop, 8 between 1600-1900 and 3 on the 1500 loop.  I haven't checked the rest yet but I'm sure there are at least 10-15 more between the other loops  The new loop looks nice   It has 3 empty sites
    4. Refrigerator group
i thought I was going to report no sighting of the large group who are always here that bring a full size fridge and dishwasher but I was wrong. They are on the 1500 loop with (3) full size fridges and at least (2) full size dishwashers....no comment
    5. Fence frenzy update
looks like all fencing is complete at the fort. All 3 playgrounds are now all fenced in with black chain links and gates. The pool fencing is complete (with no card readers) and most of the water eats in common areas gave the rope fencing. Creeks/canals behind most sites just have gator and wildlife signs posted
    6. Less merchandise is offered at the trading post than years past.  It looks like less toys and clothing
    7. No main tree near trails end as of yet and a lot of garland not lit on trails end
    8. Seems all the buses have a digital sign on the back that says do not pass. Also it looks like all the buses were retro fit with HID lights. They are all super bright now.
    9. Epcot has minimal holiday decorations compared to other parks  Maybe this was always so   Future world continues to become more pathetic

Going to Disney springs tonight  will report on new things

halla reacted to BradyBzLyn...Mo in Train Cars Found Near Wilderness Lodge
While Jen was at the Fort last week, she met up with an old friend of hers who gave her the scoop on some train cars found by the construction workers working on the new Wilderness Lodge DVC expansion.
They told Arthur they found these two ore rail cars tucked away in the woods and no one knows their origin.

Arthur is trying to contact David Leaphart, the author that's written a few books about the Fort Wilderness railroad, to see if he might know anything about these.
Jen's dad has a theory on what these may be... "he says that the cars are narrow guage, but he never remembers seeing them with the train at fw...he does remember seeing cars similar to that at thunder mountain when it first opened, but it is a faint memory and he cant quite picture where or why...he thinks they may have made them for props and then discarded them in refurb and dumped them in the woods because they didn't have room for them"
Anyone have any speculation or insight?
And HUGE thanks to Arthur for sharing this and giving us permission to post!!

halla got a reaction from aerojar in Fort Billing/Invoice
I just got back from the Fort, rented a cabin for a business trip.  I have to say the billing at the Fort and all of WDW drives me crazy.  I pay 100% of the bill for the room/tax etc... when I arrive, then they put all of the costs back on the bill when I check out and mix in all of the other charges.  It takes 30 minutes to figure out what I spent while I was there, what I already paid for etc...  I wish they would change the billing over to the way other hotels do it.  Marriott for example will list the total room balance at the top and show it paid then start a zero sum from that point forward, so the bottom line is what you spend while you where there.
I may be the only one that feels this way, but I thought I would vent a little today.  Leaving in 3 weeks with the RV for Spring Break at the Fort.  Cannot wait (but do not want to look at the bill again).

halla got a reaction from fladogfan aka Gretchen in When to unhook the toad?
I have had to unhook by myself before, I did it in the trailer parking lot up front, then took the bus from my loop back up to the parking lot to get the car.  Just another option, a lot of times the parking lot give you more time and you dont feel as rushed.

halla got a reaction from BradyBzLyn...Mo in Skipper Canteen
Just had dinner at new Skipper Canteen last night. Great location and good food. All items are made to order and can be modified if need be. The food is region specific to the jungle areas. They have recently added same day reservations which worked very well for us. The manager stated it gets busy around 6:30pm. Give it a try. It is nice to have another sit down restaurant in the Magic Kingdom that doesn't just serve chicken nuggets.
Take a look around all three rooms when you are there, very cool story they are telling in each room.

halla got a reaction from BradyBzLyn...Mo in New Awning Lights, one of a kind
We just finished our latest project before leaving for the fort in 2 weeks. We made awning lights out of the bowling pin slushy cups from Splitsville. Couple years of collecting and a little ingenuity paid off.

halla got a reaction from disneygeek87 in Stow, Ohio to WDW
We drive from Stow Ohio to WDW twice a year, and fly two other times.  I have also gone at least once a year since 1974, so there are two Stow Disney Fiends.

We try to leave Stow around 6:00am and we drive to the KOA in Kingsland Georgia, it takes about all day, but it is the last exit in Georgia on 95.  Then we have 3 1/2 hours the next morning to Disney.

Sometimes we leave in the afternoon after School and stay in Wytheville, VA and then drive the rest of the way the next day.  On the way home we drive from Disney to Mayberry Campground in Mt. Airy, NC.

Good luck and maybe we will run into you in Stow or WDW.
