I can't sit in the back row on Star Tours. My feet can't touch and it makes me bounce around and out of sync. If I'm on the lower rows I can plant my feet on the floor and it helps a lot.

I'm willing  to risk getting sick for this ride.

When I get stuck in the back row I put my feet up against the metal struts between the seats in front of me and brace myself with my legs.  That way I don't kick the people ahead of me but I have something to push against whenever we lurch or lunge.

    I am such a chicken:rolleyes:

And thank you TCD for the great pictures - I guess we're going to have to get there this winter for at least a week to check this out.  Time for a change of plans.

Couldn't tell that good from the photos, but I hope they are scooping out all of the submerged and semi floating logs.

Maybe this will allow the water to actually flow a bit thru there.

That would make canoeing a lot easier with a child if you're not always having to push the logs out of your way with your paddle

They are definitely clearing out years' worth of accumulated crap from the canals.  It will definitely help with water flow, and make canoeing and kayaking a nicer experience.

    TCD

For what they charge it needs to be a nicer experience.

  3. WOW and DOUBLE WOW - with our family of four adult kids, plus spouses, plus grandchildren (all of whom are over 9) and huge Star Wars fans that's $18,000.00 give or take.

I think we'll stick to offering them one week's accomodation on our DVC points every couple of years.   I am not even going to mention this to any of them!!!!!

On the other hand I just might be able to justify it for hubby on his next "big" birthday!!!!

Agreed. Disney has clearly forgotten what their namesake's original vision was.

I know this has been said many times here (too many :()  but it needs saying again:  Walt must be spinning in his grave....

I am a Free-Market person and I don't begrudge any Private Company from pursuing profit, especially when it creates healthy competition, but in many cases now Disney is chasing the high rollers at the direct expense of their customer base and the original company focus on family friendly entertainment.

I think they have realized that their customer base is so wide and deep that they can lose thousands of "average" families that get priced and/or irritated into not coming anymore and it doesn't bother them since they know there are plenty that will take their place....

Essentially we are nothing more then "pop up kleenex" use it and throw away because there's always another in the box !

  5. I think this shows (again!!) that Disney no longer sees their market as the "average" family with an "average" income.  Just add this to the private cabanas, exclusive evening events, added dining and viewing events, and all the other things that the rest of us mere mortals do without.

The problem from my perspective is that with more and more seperately priced events going on that means there is more time (or viewing space) taken away from everyone else who can only manage the general admission.  Paying for some to play in more time and space means that fewer get to play.

My issue is the people that bring MULTIPLE dogs into the park, ostensibly for "training" (like the lady with the multiple poodles). IMHO that goes beyond every possible rule about accessibility and the like. "Train" them somewhere else.

Oh -  I've seen her - the big white poodles - with their pompoms died different colours?   Makes me crazy!!!!

    That's a really good idea.

They kind of played around with this idea with their beer cart, but that was never operated consistently.

The Food Truck could be a great source of revenue, and a real perk for Fort guests if it was operated properly.

    TCD

Yes but we all know that would never happen

This is why they need to have an improved group camping area. This would allow Disney to make their money and not disturb the regular everyday camper. For those days when  no group is scheduled they could open the area to first come first serve short term stays and make even more money.

We can only hope and pray for this.  But please, nobody hold their breath.

Somebody from the DVCInfo.com website toured the model rooms for the Copper Creek Villas that they have on display at the Saratoga Springs Resort, here are a couple of the photos (Credit to DVCInfo.com) :

    Copper Creek Villas Model Room

You can see them all here: https://dvcinfo.com/copper-creek-villas-model-room-photos/

For any of you who have ever been lucky enough to stay at Wilderness Lodge, you know that this is not what the rooms there look like.

It just dawned on me that the style of these new villas is similar to what they did to the Fort Wilderness cabins- they took out all of the charming wilderness theming, and went for a Courtyard by Marriot generic look.

When I started this thread, I was more focused on the fact that they had destroyed the forests that surrounded the resort, I had no idea that they were going to destroy the inside of the resort as well.

It looks like there are less benches also.  Our last two trips were over Thanksgiving and with the old benches it was hard to find a seat, It looks like it will be worse now.

    WBI

Not only does it look like fewer benches but these aluminum things are da** cold to sit on when the weather is a little cooler!!  That's always my objection when we go to Fantasmic.  At least with the wood once you had warmed it up with your butt it stayed warm.

Couldn't agree more. Walt's idea of an affordable place to park the station wagon, pitch a tent, and take the family to the Parks has been slowly disappearing. And it seems like the trend is accelerating....  :(

I've said before that given the choice I would much rather stay at Fort Wilderness circa 1975-85 or so than the Fort Wilderness of today. B)

I would gladly give up WIFI and one hundred cable channels for a return to the days when you could get a site whenever you wanted, you could take the kids to the pool without fear of drowning or having nowhere to sit, you could walk over to River Country whenever you liked, you could use the Nature Walk, the Trams, and even a Steam Train for a couple of years!  And you could actually swim at the beach.

Was it perfect, no. Was it pricey for a family even then, yes. But dollar for dollar I think the average Fort Wilderness Guest got a lot more for their money back then.....

I couldn't agree more !!!!!!  I guess it's a sign of my age but I really miss the old Fort Wilderness - it was genuine.  Everything that happens now, from the over crowding, to the kids on golf carts, to dogs in tent loops - it's just sad.

    :(

Well, just took the wife to see the Beast movie tonight.  Pretty well done, and I thought it moved fast for 2 solid hours. Many scenes were hard to tell what was cgi,  real, or animated. Easy for a guy to endure, and I can say I've never seen a classic animated disney movie in my lifetime so you may see something new or something removed but it was all new to me. Glad to understand the story from a first hand perspective.  I give it 3 out of 4 GAG meals.

We just saw it this afternoon and I agree it was well done.  The cgi was seemless and the performances weren't bad at all.  We weren't sure what to expect with Emma Watson but she was quite good.

Only one scene seriously struck our funny bone and that was Belle on the top of the hill - looked at each other and said "Julie Andrews, Sound of Music"  - our daughter was not amused!!!

Some of y'all have short memories.

Disney entered into a letter of intent with The Four Seasons folks 10 years ago, in March, 2007, and they issued a press release bragging about it.  This is what it said:

    LUXURY RESORT AND GOLF COMMUNITY

Along the northeast border of Walt Disney World Resort, Disney plans to convert its Eagle Pines and Osprey Ridge golf courses into a luxury resort and golf community. The development will include a luxury hotel, 18-hole championship golf course, single- and multi-family vacation homes and fractional ownership vacation homes.

Disney entered into a letter of intent with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts to bring these two complementary and respected brands together to anchor a new world-class family resort destination.

Four Seasons is dedicated to perfecting the travel experience through continuous innovation and the highest standards of hospitality. Currently with 74 hotels in 31 countries, and more than 25 properties under development, Four Seasons continues to lead the hospitality industry with innovative enhancements, making business travel easier and leisure travel more rewarding. The deeply instilled Four Seasons culture is personified in its employees people who share a single focus and are inspired to offer great service. Four Seasons currently operates two properties in Florida, Four Seasons Hotel Miami and the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach.

"The Resort will have all the ingredients needed to create memorable vacations: gracious and caring staff; beautiful surroundings that are thoughtfully designed; and services and amenities that make every experience one to cherish," said Kathleen Taylor, president and chief operating officer, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts. "It's an honor to collaborate with Walt Disney World Resort on this project. Walt Disney's reputation for service excellence and exceptional family entertainment amenities is an ideal complement to the values of Four Seasons. Central Florida will be a valuable addition to our family of resorts, particularly since this is a destination our guests already enjoy."

Once terms of the project are finalized, site work could begin later this year, with a hotel opening forecasted for 2010.

The Four Seasons did not sneak in.  Disney happily took their money and signed the land over to them.

    Ughh...

    What is RCI?

RCI is a massive timeshare company (I think actually part of Wyndham resorts) that Disney points can be traded into.  So essential 140 to 170 DVC points converts to a a week in a timeshare that is part of the RCI inventory that Disney has indicates equals the same quality as their properties.  It usually costs $85 to do a swap but right now Disney is "waiving" the fee as part of their 25 year celebration.

We figured out that the dollar for dollar value of switching into RCI was better than using the points for a Disney Cruise

  15. 3 hours ago, DaveInTN said:

Plus, we always scratched our heads because DVC's were either standalone, or part of a Deluxe resort.  Caribbean Beach changes that model.  I totally believe they will build that huge DVC resort at the Fort at some point.  I just wonder now whether they will include some lakefront cabins west of the main building, and tie them into the Copper Creek ones on the east side of the Lodge property.  One continuous row of cabins along the lake shore from the Lodge to the Fort.  Doesn't that sound fantastic?  No more ugly pristine lakeshore!

Dear heaven I pray that you are wrong - that will look like H@@L

This bugs me.  At least they rented out the entire loop, so that was something however... you have to know that their noise spilled over into other campsites that were not part of the group

I really think feel that large groups should only be allowed in the group camping area (especially with catering, a movie screen and such).  If you want to rent out a loop...that's okaTy, but no more than 2 tents per site and none of the "stuff" that this group has/does.

    2 hours ago, Tri-Circle-D said:

    t bugs me too.

They need to write some clear rules and enforce them.  What's so hard about that?

The Fort has a group camping area.  If that doesn't work for a group, then they should follow the same rules as everyone else.  What's wrong with that?

The problem here is poor management.

    But what else is new?

    TCD

It bugs everyone - we've even been evicted from the 1500 loop when these folks have come in and told we have to move off our site while they are there.    A few years ago three different site were comped cabins for the weekend to make room for these folks.

Seriously ticks us off!!!! Which is reason number 2,011 why we werent there this year. LOL

And by the way they leave a serious mess behind them
