Hitch Weight...
desiphil replied to twiceblessed....nacole's topic in Camper Suggestions: from tents to Class A beauties
ProPride huh? What made you decide on that versus the much less expensive options? Hitch weight ratings and hitch weight itself changes drastically once you throw any weight distribution hitch in the mix. -
Epcot question for the experts....

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks they're of little value. -
Fire at the Fort!

If memory serves, the fire station is located over by the Caribbean resort on Buena Vista. IMO, 6 minutes is pretty impressive. I would've assumed the drive time from there alone would exceed that. -
TOO BIG??

LOL! I had no idea people still used garages for daily driver type cars. -

Towing Advice Needed
desiphil replied to nutters4nutters's topic in Camper Suggestions: from tents to Class A beauties
1000 pound bars will be good in my experience. Especially good if you have any cargo weighing down the back of the Expedition. I agree, 600 lb bars would be cutting it too close. They make a E2 hitch with 800 bars. The sway control in the E2 is supposedly not as good though. -
Towing Advice Needed
desiphil replied to nutters4nutters's topic in Camper Suggestions: from tents to Class A beauties
Nothing wrong with being safe. You should feel comfortable with your tow setup. Having said that..... Asking for towing advice on the internet will undoubtedly leave you with serious doubts - regardless of the capabilities of your tow vehicle. So here's my opinion. If I owned your tow vehicle, I would feel completely safe towing any of the campers you mentioned. I'd pair it with an Equal-i-zer hitch and a P3 controller and call it a day. -

I've know several people that have been happy with R-Vision products. 2 things to check for in the above model in addition to my notes above. Delamination in the bunk end floors/exterior walls is one. Also walk around the floor pretty good. The floor decking in the R-vision are relatively thin and tend to soften a bit in our climate (Houston). Check that they aren't too springy. -
Now I understand. That guy went to "another forum" for towing advice.

What do I inspect?
desiphil replied to twiceblessed....nacole's topic in Camper Suggestions: from tents to Class A beauties
For fiberglass or smooth sided units..... Start by looking under rig. Is everything enclosed? If not, any rust issues? Is the plastic membrane protecting the wood floor under trailer still intact. Any areas that look suspect tap with a hammer or a fist. Rotten or soft wood has a much different sound than good wood. Any mildew smells? Check tire date codes. Sidewalls - Check for delamination (large bubbles on surface). Delamination sometimes indicates damage to the luan wood beneath the surface. Push or slap on area of sidewall to get an idea what a good laminated surface feels like. -

Is this trailer fiberglass or aluminum sided? -
VIN number...
desiphil replied to twiceblessed....nacole's topic in Camper Suggestions: from tents to Class A beauties
Yes, there is a vin. No RVFax service though. Inspections are critical. -
I've used this in the past.. http://www.distripplanner.com/

Yep, no wrong answer here. For our family it makes no sense as my wife and daughter don't eat enough to justify the expense.
