grocery stores near campground

Wanted to check and see about any grocery stores in the area that can accommodate campers? We will be pulling our 26 foot TT down from Atlanta and wanted to go ahead and stock up before heading into Fort Wilderness.  Just don't want to have one in mind and then find out we can't get in the parking lot. Thanks!!

Most of the stores in the area have good sized parking lots, the only one I would avoid is Goodings right outside DTD. The prices are terrible and the parking lot is a zoo.

 

However, the nearby Wal-Mart, Publix, Winn Dixie, all have decent parking lots.

Don't know if the parking lot can accommodate your trailer, but there is a nice Winn Dixie grocery store about 5 to 10 minutes from the fort. We usually get all set up then make the trek to the store. There is also a Papajohns pizza right next door with some good daily specials that make a good cheap dinner after a day of driving and setting up the trailer

I've stopped at the Wal-Mart nearby the times I did drive down and I remember it having a pretty large parking lot. And the times I went there were always a ton of spots near the back of the lot.

Publix at the corner of 535 and 192, Super Wal Mart on 535, and Winn Dixie on Apopka Vineland have big parking lots. Wal Mart and Winn Dixie have the biggest ones.

You may want to stop and stock up 20-30 minutes away. Depending on the time and day you arrive, the local traffic is just stupid. If you come in from the north off the Florida Turnpike to Rt 429 to Rt 535 there is a new Publix about 5 miles north of the Fort.

Agree with XBoater.  By the time we hit Orlando, we just want to get to the Fort, get a good site and get set up.  Then venture out to the Walmart or Winn Dixie out the back way.

 

Sometimes I would stop at the Walmart on the Ormond Beach exit off of 95 - easy on and off the interstate and only an hour or so out depending on traffic.  That only works if you're loading food right into the fridge/cooler/freezer, though.

I usually send Rick to the grocery store while I'm setting up. I get done a lot faster that way :)

That's pretty much the only way we'll venture out if we go. It always feels like we're "sneaking" out/in because the traffic going that way is usually just about nonexistent except for the light at Apopka-Vineland.
