Our Quick Trip To The Fort

Recommended Posts

Well it took us two months to get ready for our three day trip to the World but the day finally came. We rolled out at 6AM on Thursday morning and started south. The slowest part of the trip was down our dirt road "one mile in thirty minuets" we live on a red clay road and it had just rained for four days so I did not want our camper to be orange for the trip. With a quick stop for breakfast we were off! My D/W decided that we would take our nephew with us Oh ya HES TWO :dropjaw: !!! Well we arived at the Fort at about 11;00 and got checked in. We were in the 500 loop Buffalo Bend sight 544. We got camp set and it was time to go explore. Well we only got to the front of the loop and my nephew saw the playground so we explored the play ground. My very patent D/D played with him and I got to chill. after a good play we headed over to the Meadows Trading post and did a little looking around. I tried to take some pictures but with a wired up two year old that dont work! My D/W walked in to the Trading Post and got very excited because the tire covers were back. I took a look and was not impressed with them. The new cover has walking stick Mickey in his Davey Crockett gear and was only one color. After a good look around it was time for an adult beverage and to start dinner,so we we headed back to the sight for my favorite things BEER and Grilling. After supper the kids wanted to do some heavy exploring so we left my wife and nephew at the camper and headed to the Settlement to catch the water pageant. After the parade we hoped a boat to the W/L. We have passed threw many times but never stopped to look . If you have never been here it is beautiful. There is so much craftsmanship in this place we just walked around and admired all the beauty around us. At this point we decided to hit Roaring Forks for a snack of hot tea and Mickey rice crispy treats for the trip back to the camper. Day two will follow!

I saw the tire covers as well. Just like every thing else theyre lame. Whoever orders this stuff doesn't know anything about the customers they're servicing. I coulda hand drawn something better than that.

Jeez.

I see where this is going now . . .

Folks have been asking for Fort Wilderness themed items.

So, the genius manager types break out some overpriced crappy chairs and some overpriced crappy tire covers.

Sales are predictably low.

Then some genius manager writes a report confirming that there really isn't very much demand for Fort Wilderness themed items.

And that is the end of that.

Brilliant.

And these people are getting paid for this!

So far, still no pictures from anybody on the new covers. Surely somebody has to be taking pictures of these!

I was looking for a photo too.

I knew that a Fiend would come through.

There is a new live trip report going in the community section from Fiend BBB/Karla. Here is her photo:

If anyone pays $60 for that, he or she needs his or her head examined.

Wonder why Karla took a black and white photo? Oh wait, it is black and white.

What would be a fair price?

You all know this is most likely a $15 tire cover at best which you can probably buy at walmart with a $10 digital print. I agree with TCD, managments want's to show there is no intrest in Fort Merch.

OK, Day two. My dad and I got up early and headed to Delish New York Bakery at the corner of Sand Lake and Turkey lake Road to pick up some bagels for breakfast. Delish has there bagels boiled in Brooklyn and shipped to them where they bake them fresh. As we arived back to camp all the troops were up and ready to eat. We decided to head over to the M/K and see what we could get into. We walked to the Settlement being that Buffalo Bend is not that far away. When we got to the Settlement I realized I forgot our tickets at the camper so back I went. As I got back we just missed the boat so we had to catch the next launch. Arriving at the M/K we could see a large crowd but its hard to judge because of the bottle neck for security. I had forgot how nice it was to have older kids where we could whisk right by the bag check but not with a two year old with a Dipper bag full of toys toiletry's clothes for spring summer fall winter and any weather condition possible. We made it threw the gate and headed to A/L. It felt crowded because the Swiss Family Robbison Tree House was being re done and there was a big wall around it. We did all the rides and even the Tiki Room witch it was good to see the old version back. We rode the Pirates of the Caribbean and spent a good hour in the Pirates Market with the nephew who had to try every gun and sward in the place. We arrived in Frontier Land where they were getting ready for a parade so we decided to go to to Liberty Square and get lunch at the Columbia Harbor House. After lunch we decided to start back to camp so my dad and his girlfriend took the D/D and D/S and we hopped on the train in Frontier Land and road it to Main Street we got a pretty good view of the construction in the Fantasy Land expansion. We were going to go around the park again because the nephew loves trains but at Main Street Station he saw the Monorail and wanted to ride that train. We road the Monorail to the Contemporary and looked around for a few and then caught the boat for home. We stopped at Crockett s for an adult beverage and some juice and headed back for a nap. I have never been one to nap but today was the exception. Nap time now over I got up and fixed dinner just in time for the families arrival from the M/K. With supper behind us we decided to go to Downtown Disney. This is where we started to encounter some very inebriated soles. We were on the West end and headed to the bus stop when my nephew dropped his blanket out of his stroller when a very drunk collage kid yelled at him to pick his F@#$in S#&t up! This is when I Let go of the stroller and turned to help with some thinning of the herd! All of this took place in front of two Deputes and some sort of undercover somebody. The lad realizing he was about to be used to mop up the Downtown area told me how sorry he was and how inappropriate his actions were. At this point the undercover man showed a badge and escorted the lad off some where. At this point it was time to go I had had enough! Next up Day three.

Here we go. Day three. We woke up early Saturday morning because my D/Ws cousin who lives in Orlando was coming over for breakfast. We gorged our selves on Mickey Mouse Pancakes bacon and eggs. After breakfast we hung out with our cousin fro awhile until she had to go. Today we were going to take in the Food And Wine Festival. We got ready and headed for the bus stop where there was a family of six or seven folks on ECV's waiting to get on the bus so we decided to drive to Epcot. My dad D/D and hid girlfriend decided to take the bus. We arrived at Epcot and wouldn't you know it the old man beat us there! We entered the park and decided to take our usual rout clock wise. We first encountered Australia with the smoke billowing out of grilled lamb and a line of probably 200 people. We passed buy and decided we would come back later. We approached Mexico and all the food booth lines were just as long and there was a sea of people all in between . We grabbed a beer in the Mexico Pavilion and looked around for a few mutinies and decided to move on. The crowd just seamed to keep growing and growing. We stopped at the Beir Garden for some more liquid refreshment. Dad had the Oktoberfest I enjoyed Beer Flight Number Two. As we made our way threw the crowd we looked over and saw one of our friends from church"QUICK EVERYBODY HIDE YOUR BEERS!!!!" so we stopped and talked to him and his wife who were there to go to the Party For The Senses. We moved on still no break in the crowd or in the length of the lines. Buy now my nephew was getting pretty cranky so we decided to find a place to eat.We ended up in France at Chefs de France. We entered and despite the crowds we were seated right away. Our drink order was taken and just then Remy stopped buy to say hello to my nephew. This was pretty cool until the hostess pinched the heck out of his arm with the cart that Remy sits on. Then it was on! he was tired and hungry and injured and wanted to just let everyone in the place know it! I removed him and my self from the dinning plans and went out side. He howled for the next 55 minuets no tears just noise. I would ask him if he wanted to eat and he would just crank it up louder. I tried to find something quick but the place was packed! I ended up parking on the bridge over the international waterway and just watching the ducks. Finely space because no on came with in 50 feet of me and a screaming kid watching the ducks. Finely silence I looked down to make sure he ews still there and he looked up and said I want to eat. So we back tracked to Morocco and went in the Tangierine Cafe for some chicken nuggets. The irony of this is we were going to eat in Morocco to begin with! At this point my sun found us and brought me my lunch from France Quiche in a box. Now the Battery's were recharged and we decided to move forward again. The crowd was getting still even bigger and at this point there were people falling down and puking in the bushes. The language was getting pretty coarse so we were ready to go.We stopped in Canada to get my D/W her anniversary present a Off Kilter CD its what she wanted! My dad had promised my D/D a ride on the boats in Norway so we went to Norway and sat and waited on them. After the Mail strum it was time to go we parted ways with dad and headed for the hills. We got back to camp and the kids went off on there own and the nephew and D/W took a nap and I started cooking dinner. After dinner we sat around for awhile and called it an early night. Sunday morning we woke up to my D/W packing the camper she was ready to go!!!! We were off buy nine and home buy two. It will be along time before I take a two year old on a trip with me again. I am glad my kids are old enough to take care of there selves.

Curious -- why do they do that? Do you know?

Your Epcot experience sounds crazy. You're sweet to take care of your nephew like that, especially at a tough age. (His, not yours...right?) :D

What a whirlwind!

There used to be a place somewhere near Boca (might still be there) that also did this. I think it is because the water is so critical to the taste, and Florida water typically sucks. That's also why Italian bread is so good in some cities (NY, Chicago, and of course Buffalo) and not so good elsewhere. And also, I think I read that Via Napoli imports the water for their pizza crust because the local water isn't good.

Huh! We were just up in NY this summer, and after my kids have been hearing (over and over and over) about how much better -- WAY WAY better -- bakery products are in NY, they had to admit that I was right. I must have made fifty sandwiches in one week, just so we could have the rolls. I shoulda filled a couple gallons of water from the tap to bring home and use in my bread machine! Wonder what makes it different?

Thanks for the info!

They told me it is the mineral content in the water dose something to the yeast. We get pizza from a place when we go to our place in Western North Carolina and the crust is the lightest fluffiest and best I have had! I think its the mountain water and altitude that dose it there. I have also wanted to bring some of our water home from there to brew beer with?????
