  1. To quote Shakespeare, "How doth one pack for November at yon beautiful Fort??"

We roll out on Wednesday, and I feel like I have brought clothes to cover winter on summit of Mt. Everest, summer in the Sahara, and everything in between. If feel that maybe, just maybe, I have over done it.

Living in Texas means I think anything below 70 degrees in cold. Knowing this fact, REALISTICALLY, what type of clothing do we need for days and some evenings at the park???

  2. I will just tell them Lou told me it would only be $17.03. To which the will reply, "if Lou said it, then it shall be."

But really, I would never toss Lou under the bus that way. We budgeted for the high price and are hoping to get surprised in a good way. Cuz I suppose they could also say, "you know Lou? That'll be $49.95 a person!" Only kidding :)

  3. Or you could have asked on a website called Fort Fiends.Net.

Currently they're showing that the price will be the same on the 23rd as it is today, $17.03.

No guarantee that it won't change, but that's what it's showing today.

  4. My main concern was just that I hadn't gone insane. It was just one of those very difficult conversations that make you feel like you are speaking a foreign language.  I even, said, "Breakfast is a buffet, correct." The reply, "Yes."  I say, "And it's all you can eat?" The reply, "Yes."  So I asked, "How then does it matter what I order?".... crickets.

Based on her logic, I must log all the food I eat, as I eat it....and I will be eating the heck out of those cheese grits and mickey waffles.

She put me on hold again, but I had to go to a meeting (because even though my fiend-life seems to the contrary, I sometime have to do actual work) so I hung up and just posted here instead.

  5. So, I just got off the phone with Disney Dining. I was attempting to find out the ACTUAL cost of the Trails End Buffet on November 23rd. We have reservations and some friends from the area are trying to decide whether to join us or not.

The girl I spoke with told me that it depended on what I ordered. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it an all-you-can-eat buffet?  As in one price for all?

I told her this. She put me on hold to consult with a fellow cast member. She then came back and assured me that it was based on what I ordered. I know there is al la carte take out, but she had my rez number and it is clearly for the buffet. What am I missing?

I feel like I am in the twilight zone. Am I crazy? (Don't answer that.)

  6. Hello Thankgiving Fiends!

We are heading out next week and I wanted to extend a dinner invitation to any or all of you folks that might be around and "plan free" for the eveing for November 24th. We will be cooking out at our camper (site number will be posted when we arrive) about 7pm. We'll have pulled pork and hot dogs to share and would love for you all to join us (or even just pop by for a snack before you head out to your next event!)

Look forward to meeting you all!

    Cindy

  7. Josh, from easywdw.com posted this chart showing wait times for the first Christmas party, which was a sell out:

You can see that the Cinderella and Rapunzel wait times were not bad (and Prince Charming and Flynn Rider are with those princesses for the party meet and greets).

Wait times for the Seven Dwarfs and for Sandy Claws are not provided.  For our party, the wait times for Sandy Claws were 90+ minutes.

We didn't see any of the shows, so can't help you with that.

We did stake out a spot on Main Street about 45 minutes before the second parade, and we're glad that we did, as it was very busy for the second parade on Main Street, at least.

This is super! Thanks!  We have a fast pass for 7DMT a different day, so we won't try to get any where near that. And after I posted, I realized that we already have a fast pass to meet Rapunzel a different day also. Otherwise, we should be good to go! We'll just see some show and go the parade.  Had heard that the later parade was less crowded, but it seems like from what you're saying that might not be the case. Too many decisions - - - head exploding - - - must. self. destruct. -OR- just eat some candy.

  8. The only time you really saw the crowds were the character meets and main st. Hub area for stuff there. Otherwise it wasn't bad at all

So, we are going on Friday, Nov. 21 and DD is mainly interested in Character meet and greets and the shows. Any thoughts on how early we should arrive for shows?  Any particular characters that you saw having crazy long lines?  I don't actually think she'll be very particular about who she meets...although she does like Rapunzel a lot.

  9. Hmm, $3.25 a bag? I mean, part of the reason I get the ice is to entertain others...ya know, when I am standing there with my cooler, that is too small to hold all the ice the machine spits out? Ice starts flying everywhere whilst I try to catch the remainder with one of those flimsy ice bags?

I suppose I could sell tickets to off set the cost....

  10. Are you right? Not for the vast majority of WDW jobs.

Most jobs at WDW are just that, a job. Many, many CMs are not in positions where they have the opportunity to make the magic to any appreciable degree.

...and I would guess some of it depends on the attitude of the person in any given job. In my early days at this job, I use to sit at a desk that received alot of foot traffic unrelated to my work.  More often than not, it was some poor student or guest of the university that was lost and had been previously miss directed by some employee that didn't know what they were talking about and were too lazy to look up the information.  I really enjoyed the relief and appreciation from people - and all it took was a quick phone call, internet search, or simply handing them a map.  Was I directly affecting their education? Not really. Was I making their day a little easier? Yep! And while UTSA is no Disneyworld (it is usually more like the twilight zone), the poor student who had previously been told (by someone in my office - embarassing) that they would have to go to the Mexican Consulate to retrieve their transcripts, it probably did seem like I had pixie dust - when I told them they could get their transcript in the next building over.

    It's the little things.

  11. Hey, it's a Small World.  Each of my DD's has been very involved in the Dance Marathons at FSU, UF and Auburn.

Do you coordinate that Dance Marathon at your university?

    TCD

I am one of the advisors to the student organization that puts on the marathon. Our marathon is coordinated in conjunction with an undergraduate leadership program that I run with my boss. Basically, the "kids" that are in leadership positions in the organization are also in the Leadership Challenge program.  We are still VERY new in the Dance Marathon world, but they did manage to raise $50,000 last year - not to shabby. UTSA has largely been a commuter school until recently, so the campus culture, etc with traditional college students needs work...which is why we started the marathon in the first place, in hopes of growing the campus community. And of course, now we have a football team, so that helps too.

  12. This thread is an interesting read. Husband and I have talked about whether or not we'd enjoy moving out to WDW after our daughter finished high school (shes' 10, so we have some time!)

I don't think I have any notions that it would be pixie dust for ME all the time, but I sure do think it would be fun to create the magic for others. Hubs and I  both work at a local state university now (he as a professor and me as a program administrator), but we really are in the service industry - - we just happen to be serving a student population. My "kids" run a big dance marathon on campus to raise money for pediatric cancer patients here in San Antonio. Hubs works with Real Estate student trying to break into the industry.  There are many, many days when these young 'uns bug the ever loving crap out of us...but there are those days - - - genuine appreciation for a student that got a good job, or a smile from a young cancer patient who is having a blast at an event - - - that makes it all worth it.

SO - I do have a point...and that is....my perception is that while there are struggles, if you are really in tune with your purpose as a CM and ready to bring the magic to life for someone else, I bet you can find a lot of joy working as Disney. Am I right? Who knows? Will I find out if I am right....only time will tell.
