  1. Andrew, i totally agree with you. I think Photobucket kinda killed the trip report topic. I'm glad you finally enjoyed a trip without worrying about taking a million pics. Until you do a trip report, you don't know how much work it really is. I took over 300 pics on our trip to Gatlinburg back in July and was planning on doing a TR until the Photobucket ruined it. I also think this site is changing. A lot of the old timers have given up posting, the rumor of a fight between certain members scared some off and basically times change. I love the fort even though we don't have an RV. I was
  2. Ok, since we sold the RV, I'll give you the scoop on the S71 favorite sites. We also like privacy and these seemed to work for us. 800 used to be our favorite loop. 815 and 816 were our favorites since the site you would look at from your RV had a lot of space we then became huge fans of the 1100 loop. 1106 is by far one of the best sites. It's easy to back in since it's on the curve and you can't see the next site with a lot of foliage between 1106 and 1107 when we couldn't get that site we actually started to really like 1101 of all sites and 1102. They are both close to the
  3. I guess I'm different than most. We started with a pop up and wanted bigger. Then bigger and finally bigger at a 34ft TT toyhauler. Then all we wanted was smaller and ended up with a 22 ft TT toyhauler. Now with that gone, if get into another unit it will be a used pop up that I have minimal money into. IMHO the big guys are a home on wheels and is a perfect choice for many. I have no clue how you all get those things in the fort sites...lol
  4. I really hope the average joes of the world like me that is not camping at the fort anymore due to pricing starts to make a dent in fort profitability and opens up more reservations but I don't forsea that. The pricing went up due to supply and demand. Disney knows holidays and weekends are usually booked full and Sunday through Friday, other than a holiday week can be like a ghost town. So....raise your prices high to compensate for empty sites during the week and target the families with disposable incomes. The fort has become a popular destination now since many people are realizing tha
  5. I'm not really going to get into this post and start to rant and rave like I usually do. Whether the Governor is an idiot or not, we all need to pray. This a monster record breaking storm. We will lose many lives and there will be catastrophic damage somewhere in Florida. I have been through many hurricanes and I don't usually freak out, but this has me nervous. Many Floridians have put there guards down since we had so many quiet years. If you can leave and have no job commitments here, go. Get out of this path. For those of us who need to be here to take care of those who can't take care
  6. I started this topic so I guess I can be one to blame....lol. We love Disney and we wished our family could be like TCDs one day and still enjoy the parks and the fort when my kids were in their 20s. But, it does not look like that will happen. As some of you know, I can come off like a complainer or a Debbie downer more often than I should. I run a large organization and am number one in my market because of a few things. Customer service being one, training employees the proper way and holding people accountable to rules and regulations......while also making a high profit margin line. It
  7. Agreed, but it will never happen. I was on a southwest flight back from Ft Lauderdale a month ago and we had a comedian flight attendant. One of the things that made me laugh was he said," welcome on board folks. We are flying a very old plane which means there is no wi fi. This means you will be forced to look at the person next to you and actually speak with them. Yes, that was one of the first forms of communication and it still works." The whole plane laughed
  8. Once again not so much the most magical place on earth anymore. Being a local, I think Disney is turning into being enjoyable for the families that save up for years for that once in a lifetime vacation. The ones like us who frequent often start to notice the cuts and imperfections and start to get mad. The once in a lifetime vacationers can be fed dogfood and they will think they are in Heaven. These are the people that make Disney money and drive the rates...and the cuts.
  9. You're right. People in general these days are just pure a-holes. Society today mostly just cares about themselves. The days of being polite and helpful are going away. I'm sure your experience was troublesome based on guest and not Disney employees. But Shame on Disney trying to pack 50 hot dogs into a container that hold 5. I envy my parents growing up in the 50's compared to what my kids have to deal with now. Hence my favorite quote: "I used to be a people person until people ruined it for me"
  10. Again, not the most magical place on earth anymore. We all know the re did the center hub and made more parking lots to increase the capacity of the MK. I guess safety concerns were thrown right out the window
  11. Awesome quote. Yes we are talking about the fort and not other campground. I don't care what other campgrounds charge.don't go there either if you don't like the price. And you can't compare California stuff to Florida. Hell, look at Disneyland compared to Walt Disney World. I agree 100% on returning customers. Hell, again it's a campground people. We are the 5% the camp predominately camp at the fort. Again we are lucky enough to live close by. As a lot of people say, you get spoiled after staying at the fort. As I stated before, we sold our camper for two reasons. One, the fort is just out
  12. Great dream, but it will never happen. We can't get a cart bridge from the meadow post to the bike barn and they can't figure out that the restaurants at the lodge would make a ton more money if they allowed carts to drive to the lodge
  13. In my opinion, I don't think they will ever expand the fort. As much as we all talk about how hard it is to get a reservation, there are way too many empty sites Sunday through Thursday. Sometimes on a Sunday, traffic can be backed up to the four corner stop to check out. If all the sites were full all the time they might consider it. I think the thought of adding lake front sites would be great but I'm sure they would be well over $200 a night at all times
  14. Great quote to show that everyone's opinions and situations are different. We were ones that pretty much solely camped at the fort and reservations and prices just got too out of control for us. You are right. Disney reserves the right to charge whatever they want and people will still pay even if it's not us. It's a shame though as I said. You used to be able to book a quick 3 day weekend a month out for under $300 bucks
  15. Unfortunately a lot of us are not in the same situation as you being retired and can afford to stay at the fort for a long period of time. I wish I could be you...lol i'm glad a lot of people on here are starting to see it my way and noticing the prices are getting out of hand. I actually got my $175 a night deposit back because we sold our camper. As some of you know, we only live an hour and a half away and would visit the fort frequently. Between having to book a reservation a year out for a weekend nowadays and the high prices, it just got to be too much. Storing the camper for a large a
  16. We went to a place called up the Creek. What a great campground. They only allow TT, 5ers and MH. Nice and quiet and close to town. There is a trolley stop right in the park. One of the best campgrounds we have been at
  17. The diesels in the half tons are mainly for gas mileage and not pulling power. I owned a 2012 Silverado duramax and loved it. I just didn't need that much monster of a truck since we downsized the RV. I agree the new Nissan Titan is an interesting weird truck. My neighbor has a Ram rebel and it's a sweet truck even though it's a dodge....lol. I was always an American truck guy until every one I owned would start having issues the week after the warranty expired. I'm a toyota guy now mostly for the reliability. I need no towing power now since we are no longer towing anything. If we ever ge
  18. I knew you would chime in on a dodge quote. Don't want to get into a debate about trucks. I just hate dodge like a lot of people hate toyota...all good
  19. Great report so far. Sorry for all the bad luck. Don't know how you kept your cool about the 1200/700 loop screw up when your site was ready. I would have lost it. Typical morons that run and work at the fort. The last thing you needed after a long drive was a start like that to a great vacation. I totally agree on Planet Hollywood. Worst service at Disney. And the food is terrible. Last time there we ordered a milkshake to go. The waitress said we couldn't get all crap that's on the actual in house shake and I understood. To my surprise, she brought out a regular shake ina 8oz Styro
  20. Good luck trying to upgrade to premium that time of year. You may have luck the week of or when you check in since some people cancel at last minute. I've been trying to add 2 days to a reservation around that time for 8 months with no luck. Thankfully I cancelled the whole trip
  21. Yet they still charge full price and compensate nothing for your inconvenience.
  22. Well, today is the day we sold our RV. I have contemplated over it for a few months now and decided to pull the plug. I know there are a ton of great places to camp in the south, but we predominantly camp at the fort and an occasional trip to Tennessee. 10 years ago when we started camping at the fort, we could book a long weekend 2 weeks prior and we could get thanksgiving or Christmas week no problem within 4-6 months. That's all changed along with increase in prices and over crowded amenities due to locals and poor management. As much as I enjoy swinging in my hammock and feeling I'm
  23. I've added a few words and comments to the article to make it more accurate ...lol
