  1. Kenneth and I just returned from a week at Saratoga Springs. While there, we had dinner at Turf Club - which is in the back of the main building, near the boat dock. We've always been curious about this place, but never took the time to try it. Here's what we had.

Seasonal salad - spinach and arugula topped with strawberries, red onion, almonds, blue cheese, and strawberry vinaigrette:

Grilled romaine Caesar salad - half a head of romaine drizzled with olive oil and put on the grill for about 20 seconds, topped with a balsamic reduction, Caesar dressing, roasted tomatoes, croutons, and Parmesan:

Buffalo chicken dip with house-made fries - pulled chicken, spicy (very spicy) buffalo sauce, blue cheese, and celery:

Turf Club Pasta - Fettucine with grilled chicken, garlic, and fresh vegetables tossed in a spicy Italian herb-infused olive oil:

Ok, so what was the verdict?  The food look great, but how did it taste?  Would you go back?

This is also a place that I want to return to... Went there several years ago when it first opened for lunch and it was just so-so, but have heard that its much much better now....

  2. Ok Nacole, I'm gonna weigh in here... I have been patiently following along anxoiusly waiting for pictures only to find my hopes getting dashed tonight that we won't see any for at least a day or two...

As for for the A/C, if you take down the grill on the inside of the camper, there should be a tag somewhere that will list the model number. Not sure which brand A/C is used, but it will probably be a Dometic or Coleman, so you should be able to Google the model number and it tell you what size you have.

I am so sorry that you have been having all these issues, but once you get it out and able to camp in it, all of those sour experiences will melt away!

I showered and then enjoyed doing this for a bit.

Those hammocks are the best camping accessories!  We have one just like it.  Last October when I finally got to meet Lou and Grumpy, they caught me  napping in it.  When Claudine woke me and told me they were there, I was sleeping so hard, that I couldn't tell you what world I was in...

If I didn't know any better, I would think that Mr. GDF loves the Fort.  For a guy who says he doesn't like it, he sure looks like he's having a lot of fun.

    That's what I'm talking' bout.

  4. More info from Orlando Theme Park News.  Check out the part I bolded in purple...

This sounds like the same set up at my daughter's college dorm...  They can reserve a washer, and find out when their load is done, just before someone else comes along and dumps the clothes on the floor.

  5. Haha... I'm almost that bad.  Good thing about bacon, is it's usually a morning food so the smell has a chance to go away... something about dinner smells really get to me anymore.  A strange "left over" from my second pregnancy.  I know have a strange nose ;)

Are you all joining us at the Fort for halloween?

Not sure about Halloween, but are shooting for the same time we met y'all last year, or the week after Halloween... Its still up in the air at this point...

That's why I try to do most of my cooking outside when we are camping.  No matter how good the food tasted, I do NOT like the smell of food after.  I have the same problem at home... it's not uncommon for me to open doors (even if it's freezing outside) just to get smells out.  That being said, not sure that I would use my stove...but was just curious about the taste, in case I decide to try it :)

Nacole, you and my wife must be kindred spirits as she doesn't really like to inside the camper either.... Even at home she has me cook things like bacon or sausage outside so as "not to stink up the house"...

If you do decide to give that RV oven a try, I would suggest that you pick up an oven thermometer to help monitor the temperature. The temps stamped on the oven knob are not always the most accurate... And I too am in the camp of putting some type of "stone" inside the oven to help even out the hot spots...

  7. We are DVC members and have been so since 2006... We own 160 points at SSR and have been very happy there.

Like others who have posted, I used to be very very "anti-timeshare", but those were back in the days where you had to specify which week you wanted to use every year.  I just didn't see the benefit of being locked into a specific time I had to vacation. DVC changed my mind with allowing me to vacation whenever I wanted as long as there was availability and I had enough points to cover the stay.

We purchased our points on a Disney cruise and received a pretty good discount.  I think we paid less than $100/point for ours as this was back in the day when they were still building out SSR. So far the maintenance fees have been pretty reasonable at around $830/year.  Yearly dues are different for each resort due to the way they are built, or their location. Meaning, since OKW and SSR are outside entry (or condo style), they don't have to maintain long carpeted hallways and elevator lobbies like you find at Beach Club or Boardwalk. Locations such as Hilton Head and Vero Beach have higher insurance rates due to them being directly on the coast and susceptible to hurricanes, so their insurance rates are highter.   I think SSR and OKW has some of the cheapest dues so far.

All in all, we have really enjoyed our purchase and have found that 160 points have been sufficient enough for us to use over the years.  We have stayed at OKW, SSR, Hilton Head, Grand Californian, and Aulani. We just came back from a trip to SSR this past week, stayed in a dedicated 2 BR for 4 nights...  We used all of our 160 points and had to buy a few "one time use points" to make up the difference.  Disney sells a max of 24 points per year at $15 pp if you need a couple to make up any shortfall that you may have to complete a reservation. So basically for that we had one king size bedroom, another separate bedroom with 2 queen beds, 2 separate bathrooms, a full kitchen and living room.

  8. Leslie,  I have been quietly reading along when I have had the chance...  but I must say that you and your family are the most photogenic family I have ever seen...  I could easily turn on the TV at Disney and see your family on one of the DVC channels...

    Great trip report!

  9. Man! you guys racked up on the goodies.... It's amazing what you can accomplish just by being nice and patient with folks... I call it using the "Southern Sugar"...  I spread on pretty thick whenever I travel up to NYC and out to the Chicago area... I always end up with something extra or even free on occasion.  I get a bigger kick from just watching people's expressions change when you're nice to them and not wanting to tear out their throats.
