  1. I bet it's wishful thinking for the garage to be long bed four door dually friendly. I always have to hike a mile after parking.

I think there are a lot more of us "long bed four door dually" owners than Lou wants to admit. And I completely agree... it's what I need to pull the camper, but parking for everyday use can be a huge PITA.

  2. Someone lock me up...I have officially lost my mind. We've always been "4th of July people" at the fort. But we have also discussed trying to get down for other holidays.

We're in Enfield, NC on our way home after two weeks at the fort. Two very hectic weeks, during which DW Linda sees and hears a little too much chatter about Halloween. Suddenly I'm on the phone, and by later that evening, our 10 day passes have become AP's, and we're booked in a cabin from 10/25 until 11/2. Checked every which way...no campsites to be had. That's OK, we can travel much quicker in the Tahoe, not pulling the 5er.

"You know...we have AP's...we might as well come down and see the Christmas decorations!"

Oh hell yeah, why not? Book that too! After all...we've got passes!

She's working on that right now. Someone make it stop already...

  3. We typically make 2 stops headed south from central Pa. DW isn't comfortable pulling the 5er (she can, she'd just rather not) so we "vacation" down and back. No rush. Our first stop is Fayetteville/ Wade KOA off exit 63 in NC. Second stop is Jacksonville North KOA, which is actually off exit 1 of I95 in GA. Both are very clean and easy off/on for I95. We get to both early afternoon. The girls use the pools, I just relax, walk the dog and stretch my legs after driving. Two stops takes a lot of the stress out of our travelling. 2 young daughters and a dog in the back seat can be fine, but it can also give you a headache if someone is having a bad day.

I also like the fact that our last drive is just from Jacksonville to the fort. A short day of driving and I can be sitting at the fort enjoying a cold one.

  4. Not really a "brag", at least not entirely..

DD's are both very good swimmers. Trophies and medals are adding up quickly in our house.

But they wanted to try something different this summer, so they have been practicing in the yard.

DD8 thought she was not only learning the game, but catching on to the lingo.

Imaging dad's pride today as she cut across the field yelling "Throw it! I'm wide open! Throw the ball! I'm wide open!"

    She's playing softball........

  5. If all I'm carrying is a .380 (which is rare) it's in a pocket holster in my right front pocket. It would never fall out. If you're carrying a weapon, you have the added responsibility of making certain it is secure.

I'm not getting into the debate about carrying/not carrying in the parks. People are very passionate about the whole subject, and I'm not going to waste energy arguing online.

  6. I love surprises like this! This is actually a very good one...going so far as to pack everything up and move! That may be worth bonus points!

Our surprise this year is that DD8 and DD10 have no idea that my sister's family, including their two favorite cousins, will be joining us for the 2nd week of our stay. I can't wait to see the reaction when we happen to run into them at the fort!

We'll need an update after you get resettled. Let us know everyone's reaction!

  7. I firmly believe that a valid permit in your home state should be honored nationwide. In 27 years of law enforcement, there was only one time that I arrested anyone with an out-of-state permit for carrying, and that was because he was using a .50 caliber desert eagle to make his way through traffic in a construction backlog! Apparently things were not moving fast enough for him...

The thought process for the guys that worked for me...as long as you didn't commit another firearms related crime, and you had a valid permit from SOMEWHERE, you were OK. Hell...don't do anything stupid, and I'll never know you're driving through PA with a gun. Have a nice day!

My current status as a recently retired LEO allows me to fall under the nationwide carry law, and I take full advantage. I don't carry where it's not permitted (like in the parks), but everywhere else is fair game. My personal opinion is if you have a permit and carry at home, why would you not want to be able to defend yourself in your "travelling home"?

Once again...personal opinion. Do not misinterpret as legal advice.
