  1. Well, Auburn and Alabama won tonight.  Auburn toward bowl eligibility and Bama toward the SEC big game and maybe bigger things to come.  Now if the Falcons can win tomorrow, my weekend will be complete.  And the hawks won tonight, running their record to 7-1 and 6 in a row.

I felt bad for the UF walk on kicker.  Could have cost them the game, but at least he got on the field.

  2. Kristie,  No, unfortunately our kids have to be back in school Jan. 5th.. We will have already kept them out a couple weeks prior to Christmas.  We plan to get there around Dec 9th and out by Jan 3rd.

Jersey,  As mentioned above all sites have electricity, water, and cable connections.  Tent sites do not have sewer connections.  I'm sure you know better than I how different weather could affect your kids, so plan accordingly if necessary.  If you bring a small TV, you will need to provide the cable to the post.  You will also likely need extension cords with multiple outlets to power your in-tent equipment.  Fans/ heaters/air-conditioners as appropriate.  I know you will have 2- 15/20 amp outlets and (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) a 30 amp outlet to which you could plug in an adapter to a "standard" power cord.

  3. Since we get so upset with rule breakers, we try to follow them as closely as possible, whether in the van or the GC....can't imagine reverse driving in the MH.  Disney may not care, but we do.  It's a matter of safety.  Maybe not in each instance, but eventually.  While a wheel or two off the pavement may seem nit-pickin', such rules may contribute to maintaining the Fort as we know it.  I will, however, admit to the high crime of running our lights and inflatables past 10 p.m.  Although we were warned a couple times last year.  We'll try to reform this year.

  4. That fabric on the sofa must be really awful.  It seems to be the most mentioned complaint.  And someone on site needs to slip in, maybe with mousekeeping and measure the larger bed.  Not that we have ever stayed in a cabin, but I like the newer, updated look.  I know in the rehab shows on TV the kitchen is the most often changed room on the show.

We have a convection/microwave oven in our MH and have used it a couple of times for biscuits.  I also used the gas oven once, also for biscuits....too hard to light.  Looked like it had never been used when we bought the MH.  I wish our cooktop were a two burner.  I doubt we have EVER used all three burners at once.

Also, what kind of heating/cooling do they use in the cabins?  Any change there?

Wasn't there talk a few years ago about replacing the cabins in 2014?  I guess rehab is cheaper.

  5. Some of you more adventurous campers may correct me, but aren't most of the canals mainly drainage ditches usually covered with the green growth?  I've tried to stay away from them in our visits, but to each, his own.  The Meadows (pool, etc) area is near the middle of FW and the Settlement (Marina, etc) is near the far end from the check-in location.  While none of these distances matter if you have a GC or take the internal busses, they can be quite long if you are not used to walking on a regular basis.  The Fort is about a mile long and a half mile across.  Although there are still some pine trees around the FOrt, there is not much "wooded nature" among most of the campsites, and you can likely see 4-5 sites around you, with some bushes between adjacent sites.  You could see some squirrels and lizards around most sites, with occasional wild turkeys wandering about.  I don't know if armadillos are still around or not.  We have seen deer along the road near the 500/1400 Loops, but these will mostly be along the walkway between FW and WL.

  6. Toaster, Single Cup Keurig, Crock Pot all had to be color matched in Bama colors.  Also have some old hard dishes, but use mostly plastic/foam/paper.  Foil, Saran Wrap, bendable straws, spices, many boxed goods, most canned goods all stay in the MH.  Some are rotated to the house when we run out of something we need immediately.  And we occasionally find a can with domed ends we had overlooked that goes in the trash.  Somewhat seasonal clothes stay in the MH, but we need some of everything for the Fort every winter.  Bedding returns out there after laundering from a trip.  OTC meds and supplies for cleaning the MH and us are left out there.  Small gas grill and utensils stay, but I often find more utensils than I had the previous trip.

For our family, extra kids stuff like diapers, liners, formula, bed pads, O2, etc are counted and replenished as needed.

Also we I keep a few drinks in the fridge and some snacks for when the dog and I are "working" out there.

All on all, pretty much ready to go most of the time, but most stuff came from existing stock...except the "Bama" stuff.  (War Eagle!)

Oh, I forgot she just bought some NuWave stuff for induction cooking.  We'll see how that works.

  7. And technically you are not supposed to park two cars, but this is largely overlooked as long as the wheels are all on the pavement.  They might also get picky if the golf cart is parked even partly off of the pavement.  Just depends on their mood at the moment.

And just a good neighbor note:  Be sure to park far enough inside your site so as to not infringe on the loop road or the ability of your neighbor from getting into his/her site due to the location of your vehicle(s).
