  1. We also have never used a DDP.  Our family is so dysfunctional, disorganized, or whatever we can never keep a schedule, but go with the flow.  We never know which park, or Fort, we will be in on any day or at any hour.  About the only thing we schedule is a MBYBBQ and/or HDDR.   The rest of the time, we grab a quick meal wherever we are or eat at the MH.  We wind up taking too much food with us and bringing a lot of it home, but we have what we like to eat...one of the advantages of stasying at the Fort.

  2. Hey, Norm.  Thanks for bringing back some memories from the 70's.  My first MH was an 18.5' Eldorado Class C with colors (and wet bath) just like your truck camper.  We went all over the country with that thing, mostly paid for by the USAF, for whom I worked back then.  Once went to Maine and worked making some electronic measurements in a blueberry field.  We loaded the fridge and freezer with blueberries to take back to Mobile.  The next year we planted five blueberry bushes at home and had a good supply for many years.  Ken

  3. I saw Frozen last evening for the first time and do not see so much that would be lasting enough to invest in new productions/facilities at WDW.  Am I just too old or am I missing something.  It was a nice movie, but remake a section of one or more Parks?

  4. Anyone use one of these platforms to carry wheelchairs? Is 60 x 20 inch enough (for very occasional use)? Have you used a cover such as a grill cover? Does the mesh base in wet weather allow road spray/dirt to get under whatever you are carrying? Northern Tool has one for $80....some assembly required. Looking to carry two wheelchairs with push handles and foot rests removed.

EDIT: I before E, except after C. Or when sounded as A, as in Neighbor or Weigh. I do know how to spell RECEIVER. But I don't know how to correct it.

  5. I did the GC and Mt Rushmore years ago in a '75 Class C 18 foot MH while on a business trip for the USAF.  A fire at the Canyon forced us back to Williams for the night, and the wind battered the MH all night...sorta rocked us to a nervous sleep.  At Mt Rushmore we blew an exhaust manifold and had to get that replaced in Rapid City before we could start for home.  And a rare tornado threat scared us at a motel in Rapid City.

Seems like somewhere during all this we saw the Canyon and the faces at Mt Rushmore.

  6. We've been to Branson twice.  A nice place to visit, but except for the big name shows, it doesn't seem that different from the Dollywood area, which is much closer to us.  Our biggest problem was the Ozark hills that made getting there quite an effort for our underpowered MH.  There is a beautiful reservoir there...Corps of Engineers project, I believe.

  7. There's also a special Trolley that will give door-to-door service for special mobility needs.  We used it several times to Dollywood in the past for 50 cents a person, and we could schedule pickup and delivery times to suit our schedule.  We have stayed at River Plantation several times and the special trolley came right to our campsite.  I think it will hold 4-5 wheelchairs, although some may need to be child sized.  The regular run trolley has a stop right outside the campground...but it is a pretty good walk up the hill at the entrance.

  8. We are not intended to be boat people this year.  A few nights ago we were leaving the MK toward FW after the Christmas Party.  We got out into Seven Seas Lagoon and were almost immediately ordered back to port.  We were only told the entire boat fleet was out of service.  I found out yesterday that a boat had sprung a fluid leak and dumped diesel in the water.

Last evening, we had rrservations for the BYBBQ but decided to make a quick trip to the MK to get family photos with Santa.  On the way to the MK, there was a funny sound from the engines as the boat accelerated past the water bridge.  We idled into port and I asked the CM if they had engine trouble.  He grinned and said,"You heard that, huh?"  We got to Santa in time  to find out he was going on a half hour break which would have made us late for the BBQ.  The CM said there was nothing he could do, but a second CM said he could fix it and moved us to the head of the line for quite a few pictures.  Time was getting close, so we hurried back to the port to see the same broke down boat at the dock.  I noticed the boat on the other side was flying a red/green flag so we hurried into the much shorter line.  As they filled the boat we were the next in line...with no room at the inn.  I asked the CM about getting on the next boat which was just coming in.  He said, not likely as there were many trying to make the HDDR.  He then came back to us and said they would take a equal number of people from both sides of the queue.  We were the first on board and made it to the BBQ with 3-4 minutes to spare.  Thje CM seating people recognized us from previous years and took us to a center table where a RESERVED plaque sat.  After that, all was well.  And you should have seen the mountain of food Shawnee ate.
