The new "Captain Hook's Pirate Crew" at Disney's Beach Club Resort is the latest immersive experience for kids at Walt Disney World Resort.

Taking place from 5pm to 8:30pm, Captain Hook will be lookin’ for a new band of adventurers to learn the pirate code and follow clues leading to hidden treasure. As part of Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew, these young buccaneers will comb through the resort and set sail on a pontoon boat around Crescent Lake including an escape room type experience. Once the treasure is unearthed, all join in a Pirate Feast that includes selections such as Cannon Meatballs with marinara or macaroni and “gold” sauce for entrees, along with a treasure chest treat or fruit for dessert.

Captain Hook’s Pirate Crew is priced at $55 (plus tax) per child and is available for ages 4 to 12; the adventures begin April 28 2019. For more information or to book a reservation, call 407-824-KIDS.

The Pixar Play Zone experience at Disney's Contemporary Resort ends on March 30 2019.

Select hotels at Walt Disney World are now offering Mermaid School, where guests are fitted with a mermaid tail and taught how to swim with it.

Guests ages 4 and older can take part in an hour-long class where they’ll be fitted with a swimmable “tail” and led through activities teaching them how to swim in a pool like a mermaid.

The Mermaid School will be offered at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. Classes are $50/person (plus tax). Bookings (select dates per resort) will open mid-March through 407-WDW-PLAY.

The experience is being operated by local Orlando company, The Mermaid Academy, who provide the instructors and the loan of the tail.

  3. Here is an update....more automation, less humans.

As we previously reported, automated PhotoPass cameras are being introduced at select Walt Disney World meet and greet locations. These automated cameras will take your picture instead of PhotoPass photographers once activated. The camera will be positioned in the room to take photos throughout the duration of the interaction with the characters.

We recently showed you the cameras installed at the Town Square Theater meet and greet with Tinker Bell in “Pixie Hollow”. They are now also installed at Star Wars Launch Bay at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where they are much more well hidden:

No start date is set for when the camera will go into use for guests just yet.

  4. I personally like the talking trash can in MK, but here is another version of talking robots.  This one is at Planet Hollywood.

There’s a new robot in town greeting the guests of Planet Hollywood Observatory at Disney Spring. A charming little metal man with a big pair of googly eyes, Plex the talking robot interacts with patrons and poses for photos. According to Planet Hollywood, Plex is the creation of Max, the teenage son of Prof. Earl, founder of the Planet Hollywood Observatory.

Plex will be hanging out Monday through Friday from 12-8pm if you want to say hello. Sources say there may be more future plans with Plex down the line.

Also he seemed to take a shine to our camera so watch the video below…

A male worker has been killed in an industrial accident near Epcot’s France Pavilion, according to WFTV. According to their report:

A man was killed after falling at a site behind the Epcot theme park at Walt Disney World, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred around 5:14 p.m. behind the France Pavilion at the park.

Reedy Creek firefighters pronounced the man, who has not been identified, dead at the scene.

Deputies said the preliminary investigation indicates there was no foul play involved.

Officials described the man as a “worker” but did not specify what his job is.

Officials with Walt Disney World did not immediately return requests for comment.

No further details are available at this time.

An industrial accident has been reported as having occurred near Epcot’s France Pavilion, according to WESH.

    Per their report:

An industrial accident has been reported near a construction area by Epcot, officials said Tuesday evening.

Deputies were seen near the France Pavilion.

Few details are known at this time.

The mention of a construction near the France Pavilion suggests that this could be connected to the ongoing building of Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, expected to open next year.

Move over, theming! Disney’s Hollywood Studios is deep into revamping its look, and with new gondolas, bus loops, and bag check stations opening soon, it appears management felt the need to change the names of the parking lots, too.

The old signs and lot names representing the former themes of the park (Film, Stage, Music, Television) will be replaced by characters represented in the park’s latest attractions, some of which open later this year.

    hollywood-studios-parking-sign_2.jpg

The lots will be named after BB-8 (Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge), Mickey, Minnie (Runaway Railway), Olaf (Frozen Sing-Along), Buzz and Jessie (Toy Story Land).

March 19th will mark the debut of the new parking lot names, as well as the opening of the park’s new bus loops.

Way back even before even going to WWW2018, the WW began planning WWW2019. We are just that dedicated. Well, that and we wanted to get the trip booked before they started charging for the extra parking. Sometimes we have 3 or 4 extra cars that are driven down. So the planning began and we decided upon President's Weekend 2019.  At first, there was some discussion of Carol driving Kelly's camper. Myself riding with Carol to Kelly's to get the camper. Alas, my visions of a Thelma and Louise trip to the Fort was short lived when Kelly realized she would not be able to leave until Thursday evening.  We had a weekend picked and the planning and Count Down officially began.

Unfortunately, two of our favorite Wild Womenz had to cancel. Mo and Nicole (aka Nuck and Futz) would not be able to join us. Nicole's husband had some medical issues come up. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He seems to be on the road to a full recovery.

This year we decided to rent a camper from Camper Rental of Deleon Springs. They are one of the places that will deliver the camper to your site. We highly recommend this service. I contacted Dawn and she was quick to answer my messages.  Camper rented and we planned how we would all be getting there. Frontier Airlines just recently started flying from HSV to MCO. As it so happened there was a Thursday evening flight. So, I booked that. Kelly flew in from Atlanta. Marty drove in from SC. Sarah flew in from NC. Jen drove in from AL. Gretchen lives practically at the Fort and had the shortest trip. Finally, Carol, the most amazing of all the Womenz began her journey from AL on Wednesday afternoon.  Her first stop was to Kelly's where she picked up the golf cart.

    VM3vDVc.jpg

    um8L6qt.jpg

She stopped for the evening somewhere in Georgia. She'll have to say where because I can't remember.  Then got back on the road Thursday morning and before long she arrived at our site.

    VKd7LjD.jpg

The golf cart was unhooked and ready to go.

    Vi4wECq.jpg

From my understanding, Kelly's Jason was most impressed with Carol's knowledge when it came to towing.

Meanwhile, Marty had left early Thursday morning and before we knew it she had made it to Florida.

    5JRlP1d.jpg

As I said I had booked a flight on Frontier. I had heard some scary things. But truth be told it was a good flight and I would book it again. Now, remember how I said Carol was the most amazing of all the womenz? Well, I only booked a one-way ticket. That's right folks I decided to move to WDW. All right not really. Carol graciously offered that I could ride back with her. We live in the same town. Not only that, but she also took my stuff down with her so I would not have to pay for luggage. She did the same for Kelly's. She picked her stuff up when she got the golf cart.

Before you knew Kelly was at the Atlanta Airport and waiting to board her flight. She wasn't the pilot so she enjoyed this while she waited.

    47lrzip.jpg

I boarded my flight and awaited takeoff.

    JpepmoG.jpg

Soon after Kelly was on her flight.

    aSB80e6.jpg

In the meantime, Marty arrived at the Fort. She and Carol found their way to the boat dock. If I remember correctly they headed over to MK and then over to TT. Carol was wanting to check on a non-expiring ticket that still had some days left.

    Uhs8LYN.jpgAt

At some point they also ended up here.

    P6946V2.jpg

Our flights arrived at MCO and we boarded the DME. It was late so obviously, there were probably going to be more stops than normal. We expected that. What we did not expect was the order of the stops. From the airport, the stops would be GF, WL, CR and finally FW. We decided the heck with that. Kelly used her handy dandy notebook, oops I mean Uber app and we got off the DME at GF and took an Uber to the Fort. Marty and Carol met us up front and took us back to the site.  Jen had some last minute distractions and decided it would be best to wait to leave Friday morning rather than drive late Thursday evening. Sarah would also be arriving on Friday morning.

I always have last minute distractions.  They usually involve something breaking and me fixing them.  That night, it was the trailer, lol.

Hi all I thought I’d jump in and comment since we are talking about the fort prices.  It’s been a while! I think our fam is about to bite the bullet and do another trip. We haven’t been since 2013!!! I hate to say it but I think we have been out priced. We have never stayed at the fort but we are big campers and have pulled our rig all over. We thought when we got to the all three kids over 3 mark (can’t say in a value regular room) we’d be at the fort. But we just can’t afford it and gas too. Doesn’t make since. We are going to stay off site (such a bummer) for 4 nights and can only afford 2 days at the parks and in case you were wondering, that’s still $1400.

On our last trip we went during free dining. Only had 2 kids and one was under 3. We stayed 7 nights. Parks for 5 days. And our whole trip was $1800. Never did I dream that same trip with my crew of 3 kids (ages 5, 7, 11) would cost over $3500.

I hate to complain because it’s not like it’s a must have. It’s a blessing to be able to go on even a small trip. But it seems kinda sad that they are pricing out regular folks. I mean even though the paying for parking thing for resort guest didn’t that big of a cost it still made me so aggravated when they announced it.

Hope we can make it work! We want our little guy to get to go before we embark on his big surgery year next year. (He has 4 surgeries planned many states away for 2020). He is all about characters so we know he’ll love it.

If you do get to go, off site or not, please add your trip report!  Also make sure you add your little one to our prayers board when he goes in for his surgeries!

Project Gamma is about to get underway at Epcot, a project that will include the reimagining of the center of Future World, the park’s entrance, and a rumored multi-year refurbishment of Spaceship Earth. The first permits for the project have been filed, likely coinciding with the imminent closure of Innoventions West and the overhaul of the park’s entry plaza. The permits refer to a “Project G”, which is short for Project Gamma. The permits also cite Innoventions East in name, but that is likely based on the close proximity of all of these structures and such.

    DSC09804-X3-1200x900.jpg
    Innoventions, circa 2007.

Regardless of what the permit may pertain to specifically, all of the Innoventions West building will be demolished in the not-too-distant future. Epcot Character Spot, the FountainView Starbucks, and Club Cool will all close before this happens sometime in the next year. Most of the Character Spot meet and greets are rumored to relocate to ImageWorks, where they will join Wreck-It Ralph and Vanellope:

    Ralphyepcot-2-1200x900.jpg

Meanwhile, Starbucks is rumored to take up the food service side of the upcoming Epcot Experience Center (temporarily), otherwise known as the Odyssey between Future World and World Showcase.

The newly reopened, reimagined Odyssey building features a very permanent-looking food service counter.

Most of Innoventions East is now expected to stay through the completion of Project Gamma, leaving the MouseGear and Electric Umbrella buildings in operation. MouseGear is slated for a major overhaul before Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021. It is unclear how much will change at Electric Umbrella during the course of the project.

As for what will be replacing Innoventions West, that remains unclear at this time.

  15. https://wdwnt.com/2019/03/opening-date-for-star-wars-galaxys-edge-at-disneyland-park-to-be-announced/

With the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park edging ever closer, lots of news is brewing. We now know specifics about ride details, merchandise, and food and beverage offerings in the new land. Disneyland Park Cast Members recently got a unique preview of what the costumes across Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will look like, as well:

    Screen-Shot-2019-02-28-at-1.59.03-AM-120

Soon, we will have an idea of when we will actually get to see the land (or at least start getting in line for it). After years of announcements and months of close anticipation, an official opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (at least for Disneyland, possibly also for Disney World) will reportedly be released this Thursday, March 7th during the Walt Disney Company Annual Meeting of Shareholders at 11:00 AM EST.

    Screen-Shot-2019-03-05-at-10.25.20-AM.pn

For those wondering why Florida might end up wrapped up in this announcement, it’s because things have supposedly gone very well as of late for the Disney’s Hollywood Studios version of the land. If sources are to be believed, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open in Florida in September/October, with preview events set to start in late July. A lot still has to go right for this to happen, but it sounds likely.

Per Bob Iger, the Disneyland Park land will open officially in June.

  16. Well Well Well.....

    How interesting is this?

    https://wdwnt.com/2019/02/disney-leaning-towards-selling-fastpass-for-rides-in-star-wars-galaxys-edge-at-disneyland-walt-disney-world/

    Quote

While no decision has been made as of yet, Disney is leaning towards the sale of FastPasses to skip the lines at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.

    Screen-Shot-2019-02-28-at-1.29.58-AM.png

According to sources, the concept is being “heavily considered” by management. Disney was nearly silent with media outlets who asked about paid option to get on the rides faster, not alluding to a decision in either direction as of yet.

These paid FastPasses would not replace the option of obtaining the reservations through the existing means, so don’t worry, you won’t HAVE to buy one to get a FastPass should this all come to pass, but it will certainly be much easier to do so.

For the Disneyland Resort, paid FastPass would be built into the existing MaxPass system as a premium choice, allowing you to upgrade with a click-and-buy option to skip the line. Walt Disney World management has reportedly indicated that a “significant portion of FastPasses will be allocated for monetization.”

Similar paid services are already being offered at other Disney Parks around the world, including Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong Disneyland, and Shanghai Disneyland. Of course, Disney also charges $15 a day for MaxPass services at the Disneyland Resort, while concierge has sold FastPasses to club-level guests at Walt Disney World already.

I would be very surprised if we don’t see such paid options for the rides in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The introduction of such a service would likely not be limited to Galaxy’s Edge, but it’s where the offering would start for the U.S. Disney Parks.
