  1. oh who are you kidding, you check EVERY thread daily!
  2. wanna borrow mine? Thanks for the updates and info Kelly and Debbie! What Kelly describes makes sense. I know I've seen the *exit* to the 700 loop jammed with traffic going in/out and have had some narrow misses there as well with the cart because people were staring at the decorations and not watching the road. (people, pull over and stop for heaven's sake!) The first time we were at the Fort during the holiday season was the year before Donna Howard died. They were from the same town as friends of ours (one is a fireman there) and we were introduced to them. We loved how much of themse
  3. That would be awesome! When are you going. I'm very good at nagging... reminding people.
  4. I feel your pain. Our Bz was more than a bit of a challenge to housetrain. And it didn't help when I kept hearing from the people that had her sibs how EASY they all were. :) I should have known then that it was just an early indication of our "independent" girl. She has her own agenda and her own mind, and humans be damned. She'd be running and playing and having a jolly old time and then would just stop and squat right in the middle of a run through the living room. She could hold it just fine and never messed when she was in her crate, so we knew it was just a matter of working out t
  5. Ditto! I check this thread all the time. Love it.
  6. Excellent point!! I've volunteered with border collie rescue for about 10 years now and we've seen PLENTY of issue-free, wonderful dogs who were simply a victim of circumstance. In fact MOST of the dogs we get into rescue are simply "normal" border collies that were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. In fact one of the biggest bonuses of adopting a dog from a good shelter or rescue is that you know what you're getting!! You can say to them "I need a dog that's good with cats, kids, etc." and they can steer you in the direction of a dog that's a great match for you. You sometimes mig
  7. I'll give it a shot - thanks! And exactly what noise does a Fiendmingo make anyway? Of of course.... it SNARKS!
  8. Ignoring the behavior and rewarding him the *second* he has all 4 feet on the floor is the best thing you can do. It teaches him that the bad behavior gets him nothing and exactly what the GOOD behavior is that you want from him. But you have to COMPLETELY ignore the behavior. Turning away works great, but you can't say anything or acknowledge him at all or you run the risk of inadvertently rewarding the behavior. Remember, for some dogs, even just attention can be a reward. Also work on a default behavior - sit is easy. Have your dog sit for EVERYTHING - attention, treats, meals, toys, y
  9. Not at all! I've heard far too many stories of dogs becoming projectiles in the car - including someone who's dog was thrown out an open window when her mini van was hit! That was the other big reason we first went to the barrier and then the crates.
  10. We camp with our 3 border collies. Like others have said, they're actually the reason we have a camper in the first place - because we enjoy them so much we actually want to take them on vacation with us! Last year they made us buy both a bigger TT and a bigger truck! :argh: But seriously... our dogs are super energetic (ok, they're insane, but we love them). We've camped with them tons of times - including several 2-3 week trips to the Fort. For them the key is that they get plenty of exercise, attention and play time. If they're exercised and tired, they're perfectly content to hang out
  11. We have 3 herding dogs. If they didn't ride in crates I'm pretty sure we'd crash every 3 miles. When we only had 2 they rode behind a barrier in the SUV. That was until we were on our way to the Fort and stopped at a rest area along 95 in NJ at 3am. I popped open the back lift gate and out flew Brady! AHHHH! I screamed his name, he (thankfully) stopped on a dime, spun around and tried to jump back in the truck, I dropped the lift gate on my arm, and Brady crashed into it. Then there was the Thanksgiving he freaked out because the snow we were driving through was making too much noise and
  12. Aw crap... now I've got to get on the Twitter bandwagon. I've been avoiding it until they instituted the 28 hour day. :o I suppose there's a Droid app for that....
  13. Do you think I can do it before 2.0 :o I'm pretty sure you can do it before Sunday! :rofl2:
  14. I've never been there for one of these. But I did venture to the Character Premier outlets on Black Friday. :o And there really weren't any "special" sales going on, just he usual. The traffic was actually the worst. It took us over an hour to get to the one on Vineland from the Fort (normally 10 mins)
  15. Don't forget to post that here... http://fortfiends.net/forum/index.php?topic=201.0 And I'm issuing a Fiend challenge for high score on that thread - get shooting!! :o
  16. hmm.... sounds interesting I think we need some on the ground reporting... and video!
