  1. Thanks! Had to go look and found it here - http://allears.net/din/recipes/rec_oniontart.htm Will have to give them a whirl sometime. I should have known it was the heavy cream that made them taste so good!
  2. I'm a big fan of beets, so I enjoyed the new addition there. After that I'm a bit torn. I really enjoyed the pear and stilton they used to have, and tomatoes aren't exactly my favorite. Wish I knew their recipe for the onion tart. Those things are so good.
  3. Sadly I didn't get a bite! But I'm told it was very good. And if I recall correctly it was $6 or $7, so it sure better have been good!
  4. It was definitely soft, but not too gummy. Nothing I'd go out of my way to have again.
  5. Yes. Thought it wasn't quite 36, because the Passport includes a bunch of coffee stands. But it was still plenty... In my defense, we split almost all of them between 4 people. (The ones with gluten were shared between 3 people.)
  6. Can't believe I forgot to add my favorite picture from that meal. Imagine my surprise when I looked over at the sushi bar right beside us and saw this... Yep. That's a dog bellied up to the bar. We asked our waitress about it and she had a little conference with some other staff. Apparently that pocket pet you see there is a therapy dog of some kind, and the restaurant isn't able to say no. Our server said the staff weren't exactly happy about it either.
  7. Back for tea again and this time the sandwiches were different. Bye bye salmon, and the pear & stilton. The two new ones are the open faced ones you see - beet on the left, tomato on the right. Nothing new to report on the scone and tart front. Pastry course seems to get a tiny bit less good each time. If you opt out of the strawberries & cream, or the seasonal pumpkin trifle, they bring this plate of pastries. Before you used to be able to choose from a selection of pastries, but now they're pre-plated. Eclair, chocolate covered strawberry, orange mousse swan. Still t
  8. This was my first time back at California Grill since the reno. I can't tell if it was always this loud, or whether it was just busier this time, or if I'm getting old and cranky. Probably some combination of all of the above. Classic Sidecar. Blood Orange Mule. Scallops. Lamb Porterhouse with the sides that come with the chicken. Fritters. OMG. Gooood. Sauces were chocolate, peanutbutter (in the middle) and salted caramel.
  9. We did the "after hours wind down" at Rose & Crown. It included a flight of beer (well, 3 beers plus a cider). And also L-R sausage rolls, cheese, Scotch eggs. It was a nice way to end the evening and the place wasn't busy. Our server was a lot of fun too. I'm told you could order additional drinks, but we chose not to.
  10. I'd read rave reviews about this place and when I finally got my Croque Glacé (Any Flavor Ice Cream in a Warm Brioche with Chocolate or Raspberry Sauce) I was underwhelmed. Maybe I just picked wrong? I went with the apple cinnamon crunch ice cream and chocolate sauce.
  11. Are there any other school bread aficionados who think that these are getting worse over time? Seems they're more stale each time I get one.
  12. First time at Sanaa (though we're all big Indian food fans.) Appetizer sampler. Tandoori chicken. Bread service. Butter chicken, and lamb curry I believe. Note that although they serve it in three separate vessels, our server actually recommended emptying the bowls out onto the plate below. If I'd ordered this, that's what I would have done. We were too full for dessert.
  13. Started off with a tasty mojito. This is a half portion of the fettucini alfredo. (They pre-split the order and my husband had the other half.) Sliders.
  14. I'd never seen Mac & Cheese with Goldfish crackers on it before!
  15. This was my first time at the Food and Wine festival. 1. Terra. Blackened Chick'n Breast, Farro Wheat and Spicy Gumbo Sauce featuring Gardein™ Chick'n Breast. 2. Patagonia. Roasted Verlasso® Salmon with Quinoia Salad and Arugula Chimichurri. 3. New Zealand. Lamb Meatball with Spicy Tomato Chutney. 5. Craft Beers. Craft Beer Flight #2. Came with the snacks you see to the left. 6. Australia. Grilled Lamb Chop with Mint Pesto and Potato Crunchies. 7. Mexico. Rib Eye Taco - Marinated Rib-eye, Roasted Chipotle Salsa and Grilled Scallions on a Corn Tortilla. 8. Farm F
  16. These drinks were pricey, but oh so good. Now if only we could remember the names of them!
  17. Another "All American" sundae, but this time with whipped cream.
  18. I got to meet her on Tues, Oct 28! I hope she didn't think I was too creepy/stalker/weird. I told her that meeting a TCD Twin was on my List of Fun. She was lovely in every way.
  19. My tractor identification skills aren't that good, but it looks like the same tractor I saw them use to tow a snail at the MSEP. August 18, 2010. http://youtu.be/h3QiqIyznUg
  20. I ordered a virgin lapu lapu at 'O'h'a'n'a (I was driving). I seem to recall my server gently tried to talk me out of it because it's relatively expensive for the novelty of drinking out of a pineapple. I was undeterred and did it anyway. Having never had the alcohol version to compare it to, I will say that I found the juice VERY sweet. Like "hurts your teeth" sweet almost. As the ice melted that helped to dilute it a bit. Photographic evidence!
  21. If my memory serves me, I do believe I'm the one who takes the blame for introducing you to the term "moose knuckle". Sorry about that. And although the Musket is a heck of a drive, it looks like the aptly named "The German Restaurant" in Holiday is much closer to you and might have it. (I've seen conflicting menus online - one lists it, another doesn't.) They're closed until August 28 though. Closer than Frankfurt too!
