  1. I read somewhere else that the theming and attention to details were pretty awesome.  They did mention that there was really no shade anywhere and that it was pretty hot back in that part of the park.  I think the way they described it was it as "Animal Kingdom hot".  They also mentioned that there was no real place to duck into or find cover in the event of the "Florida downpours".

  2. Most excellent trip report Nacole!  I thoroughly enjoy tagging along with you and the fam...

Now that you have tackled the "southern" route out west, now its time to plan the "northern route!

I hope you guys enjoy Disney and the weather is forever in your favor!

Ugh... just found out last night, that the merger (Tom's bank was sold) is moving along quickly and things should close by July.  The new company will enforce their vacation time policy, which means we believe Tom will loose 7 days/year of vacation time (:().   Praying this isn't the case (bigger prayer, is that they don't mess with his pay!)...but we are trying to prepare.  If this happens, we will miss you as he will leave Wednesday night (11/7) and the kids and I will pull out on Saturday (which really stinks as he'll have Monday off for Veteran's Day...but we need to make up the 2 days).  Another option is to have him fly in later, but that means I need to park our rig at the Fort... by myself.  The spots can be so tight; I just don't feel comfortable even trying.  She's a big girl :(

    I don't know.... we'll see what happens.

Well, that stinks!  But, seriously, I'll be praying that everything goes well for you in this merger.

Girl, don't worry over that!  Just toss Gwen the keys, and she'll get that thing parked for you!!  :cantbelieveit:

How the heck are you?!   I remember your break-down...ugh!

Appreciate that I'm your hero, LOL, but really... it's not a big deal.  Once you hit the road, so much is really familiar:  your truck, your rig, your family, the truck stops and (of course) the Walmarts ^_^  What changes, is the scenery and that's AWESOME.  So far, both cross country trips, were awesome experiences.  Makes me realize, just how much there is (in our own country) that I want to see.

When do y'all head back to the Fort?  Hope to get to see you!

We are doing well!  Ashleigh just graduated from college and is looking for a J.O.B.  So far after our breakdown, the MH has managed to continue to run very well.  I am hoping that you have the same experience and you guys have no more issues with your rig.

We are headed back to the Fort in September.  We are playing the role of ambassador/tour guide for some friends we work with in the Children's Ministry at our church. They are bringing down their kids and grandkids.

I'm sure our paths will cross somewhere down the road!

  5. Hey Friend!  I have following along since you left GA (on this TR of course)!  I am loving the report so far and would love to do the same thing one day.  You continue to be my HERO with your courage to step out and take on a trip like this with you and the kiddos...

I feel your pain around your "break down" event...  We felt the same way last year broke down on the side of 417 in Orlando waiting for the tow truck to arrive.

Can' wait to hear more of your adventures!

  6. One thing we always do regardless of where we get fuel, is to fill up the tank before checking in at the Fort.  We usually leave very early in the morning on departure day, so we go ahead and get it out of the way before the fun begins.  The Speedway over by the Car Care Center has always where we have tried to fill up.

  7. I have been using the digital key at most of the Hilton branded properties I stay at when I travel for over a year now.  While it can be convenient, it can also be a major pain in the butt...  Depending on the property it can not work at all, work on some doors, or will work fine.  I have always opted to get the digital key, but find myself going down to the front desk to request a key card due to the spottiness of the service.  Also if you think about it, when coming back at the end of the day, someone has to make sure their phone's battery is not depleted so the door can be unlocked.  I hope if Disney rolls this out across the board, they get the correct equipment and the best software to run this.

Not sure if it's clarified, but they do have melted butter :)

And the little warmer thingys to keep it melted?

Mmmm, love crab legs.  Sounds like a good one.

WINNER WINNER, Crab Leg Dinner!!  One of our favorites...  It is a buffet, but like Dave mentioned for the Biergarten, its a table service experience.  You may have to stalk that lady or man in front of you in the line for the "special cluster of crab legs that you have spotted a few feet away. Or hang back and wait for the steamer to open for the next fresh batch, but none the less, lots of other good choices on the bar to choose from.

As dinner time approached, we also went over to POR to meet up with them.  We decided to try the food court over there, as I had always heard about the pasta bar and wanted to try it.  It's been pointed out to me that, like many things at WDW, the pasta bar isn't as good as it used to be, and you don't get as much food as you used to.  But not having ever had it before, it sure seemed good to me!  Isn't it funny...that's how WDW as a whole is.  For someone who didn't experience things the way they used to be, the place is magical.  Those of us who've been there many times get a bit jaded.

Ahh, the good 'ole POR Food Court... The Miller Clan's favorite "What do you want to eat?...  I don't know, what do you want to eat?  Well, how about (fill in any place imaginable)? No, I don't really want that, but I'll go anywhere you want to go.." type of place.  There is always something for everyone in the party.

The "meat and 2 sides", or the made to order salads is usually what I get...  The "made to order pasta" and the Magic Cookie Bars are my daughter's favorite.

Whether we are camping or DVC-ing, we always seem to find our way over here at least once per trip.

  10. Hilton uses something like this now in most of their properties...  They call it Digital Key.  I open up the Hilton app on my phone and when I get near the door, I either shake phone, or hit the unlock door button on the app.  I always opt in for it when I check in the day before arrival, but have found that I still need to get the "old fashioned" plastic key card (as opposed to the extra old fashioned door key), as this new service is sometime spotty at best.

  11. Take a look at the 800 loop as well... Although its a bit larger than the 900 loop that TCD mentioned, the bath house is located at the entrance to the loop.  The bath house for the 800 is located inside the "circle of the loop" and is accessible from both sides.  The 800 loop does back up to a canal, but that is only on the right hand side and where the loop circles back toward the main road.  There is some distance between the campsites and the canal.  In other words, they are not directly behind the campsites like they are in the 1400 loop.

    I hope that made sense...

  12. Hey Gwen, same here, what Andrew said... I have been coming and going since you have posted your pics hoping to see what everyone else has been raving about... I too thought I would try one more thing to view the pictures and Chrome turned out to be the ticket!  I have went back and re-read everything just to get caught up!

For some reason, I am still having major Disney withdrawals and your pictures have really helped me to get past some of it.

It is so awesome that you got to get away even if it was just for a few days.  I'm sure that helped more than words can describe.  And for Jean Ann to invite you, that is the mark of a true friend.  I'm sure your company meant as much to her as it her's did for you!

Next time you go to the Polite Pig, try the wings, they are awesome.  We tried several other apps when we were there back in October, and I think this is my new favorite at Disney Springs.

I hope there are at leas 20 more pages of pictures and I look forward to seeing each one of them!

Hang in there and keep the faith!!

  13. While this may not help you now, but last night as I was making a reservation request online for next September, there was a question whether or not I needed to be placed near someone else on another site.  It asked me the name the other reservation was in and what their check-in date was.  Of course is asked me all of the other information such as length of RV, how many slides and about awnings...  Funny thing it still asked if I required to be in a "pet-loop" or not.  I guess Disney has not gotten around to removing that question, or they are just leaving it in if they ever decide to return to having dedicated pet loops.
