  1. Been following along with your bare bones report on FB -- looking forward to seeing the pix! Hope you heard me hollering hello as you drove up 95 in NC!
  2. Can't believe I missed this TR until now -- just read through it and thought of a bunch of things to remark on...and now I'm at the end and forgot most of them. My old brain. LOVED the photo of Anna gazing up at you -- that's amazingly adorable. And the planking vid? HILARIOUS. Absolutely love the Japanese over-dub; cracked me up completely. Glad to be "on board" for the rest of this TR. Really enjoying it so far!
  3. I'm betting hair clip. Need to know now!!! Looks like you had a really fun summer, too. From OBX to Niagara Falls? That's quite a lot of area you covered this summer!
  4. Oh, nuts! Stinks they close so early. Our other fave, Crosswinds, I think is closed/closing this year, too (think they alternate closed winters). We almost always hit Bullocksville in May, though -- I'll give a shout on this thread and maybe we can coordinate weekends then? Hope you have a great time -- and prepping for the Fort, too? Lucky you!!
  5. I wish! Hope you have fun! Anyone know when they close for the season? I'd love to squeeze in one last trip before they do, but my brother's getting married this month and that chops down my available weekends.
  6. Such a purty campground. So glad you could sneak away for a quick trip! We've been back from TX for maybe 1-1/2 weeks and I'm already itching to get out again. Might need to take your lead and just do a quick local one!
  7. Isn't that a fantastic concept for the sculptures? Love it. Hope you do get to NO. The last time I was there I was in college (plenty long before Katrina).
  8. Yes! Glad you asked: http://thanks-katrina.blogspot.com/2009/03/update-on-highway-90-sculptures.html
  9. I *almost* chickened out after hubby got me a little spooked about my truck surviving the trip, but I had my insurance card and my phone, so I figured even if the truck got a boo-boo I could handle it. Also, I was raised with a healthy sense of paranoia, so I'm confident about handling any "bad guy" situation (plus my teen sons are practically my body guards at this point), so I figured we should just do it! It's a great bar. When hubby and I were there, they had live music squeezed in there somehow, too. I'd have to say the donut was one of the highlights -- it was that fun and tasty! And s
  10. That about sums any trip, doesn't it? A mix of hoorays with a couple bummers. And my son was VERY happy for that donut! My other son got the glazed giant donut (no chocolate). We were like, what, are you crazy? Get the chocolate, man! It really was fun. For minimal planning, it turned out pretty good. Initially, we were talking about making it all the way to CA, but realized that might be a little bit *too* far for this trip. When my guy saw that on the Food Network, it made such an impression on him he was determined to get one. I think he saw it on TV months ago! They both got one, and
  11. Two weeks ago, I was driving to the grocery store with my two sons (14 and 12) and conversation somehow turned to Austin, Texas. By the time we’d pulled into the parking lot, we’d somehow decided to take a road trip there (we live in NC). Hubby was kind of, ‘Wha--?” but supportive (he can’t take long trips, so it was just the kids and me), so we started to make plans to leave the following week. After a couple days of confusion – hubby wasn’t feeling confident in my 8yo F-150 making the trip, towing the 30-foot camper, so we briefly considered purchasing an F-250 – we left the day after my bir
  12. Glad to see this thread -- I've wondered about one of these for a long time. We have those Mickey ear fake ice cube things but although they're adorable they really don't chill any drink AT ALL. We usually cram a bag of ice in the freezer but it's a pain. Good to hear everyone likes these!
  13. I saw this, and I'm wondering if it might be one of those, "we're not hearing the full story" kind of things.
  14. For those of us who are unlucky enough to not be visiting/nearby, we need someone to do a little sleuthing for a recipe. Sounds delish!
  15. I'd be curious to know how your friend swings it. My guys were a rough coated collie and Eskie, so they both had full, gorgeous ruffs -- that were ideal landing zones for everything that slobbered out of their mouths, lol. I tried slipping t-shirts over their heads to catch the grodies but it never worked. You're bringing back memories of the good old days! My mantra was, "build a rabbit" whenever I was planning their food; I had a whole schedule worked out to rotate food types.
  16. I didn't realize you fed raw, Monique! I fed my previous dogs raw their whole lives, but in their last years we had kiddos, and the thought of one of them toddling up to a dog and giving him/her a smooch on the face after said dog had finished raw meat made me queasy, lol. I ended up with a modified diet for them for their final years (and frozen Bil-Jac). The dogs THRIVED on raw, though. Cheryl, that recipe sounds wonderful! I like that it's convenient, too (once it's frozen). Kate
  17. We drove through last fall when we were up at Myrtle Beach State Park (which we LOVE if you want to consider that -- great campground). If I remember correctly, there weren't a lot of full hookup sites, and not a whole lot of shade, if that's important to you. Mid- to small-sized sites. You walk down to beach access, and they have a nice gift shop there. Again, I can definitely vouch for MB State Park. Kate
  18. Belgian waffles are a mandatory breakfast when we're camping -- going to have to try this recipe. Thanks!
  19. Sounds like an interesting idea! What's the concern with frozen food into a crockpot?
  20. Yeah, that was a pretty sad story all the way around. Didn't she also hit a tractor trailer? I thought it was an amazingly serious crash. I was so relieved when they found the missing dog.
  21. I thought about you and this incident recently with that agility gal who crashed her car coming home late one night from an event -- the one where her six (?) dogs were ejected, a few killed, and one went missing (later found). I wonder if hers were crated or loose in the vehicle? I remembered your story and how your pups were safe because they were secure, instead of running around the highway (or worse).
