  1. It REALLY drives the big rigs crazy when I go smoking past them while they are grabbing gears.
  2. We looked at the weight tag and noticed the trailer had 2 7000# axles and a GVWR of 15,600 # I am not quite sure how thats supposed to add up.
  3. I understand the appeal of towing doubles behind a 5er but I frankly never thought it was a good idea. I have heard it argued that the fifth wheel needs to be designed and built with this in mind, today I saw evidence of exactly that. While picking up a truck at the brake and frame shop that does all our heavy work, the owner (who knows me well) told me to check out back before I left. he said he had a fifth wheel that had a bent frame and the axles had shifted to one side. I walked out back and saw a 5 y/o forest river with the wheels on one side about 10 inches outboard of where they belonge
  4. I have always been a believer in buying a little more than you really need. It worked out well for us when we upgraded the trailer. Sometimes I wish I could get away with a small 1/2 ton for my day to day but my truck has done everything I asked of it and more and is easy to drive with a big trailer, our 18 y/o son has driven it several times while towing our 32 ft TT and he remarks about how well it tows.
  5. I did the same thing the other day, thinking an event was just a year or two ago and it turned out to be in 2004. all this and I am not really that old.....
  6. I have been frugal for years, got it from my Dad. If it aint on sale we dont need it.... LOL
  7. Great pics. I have heard about stone mtn many times and always wondered what it was like. Looks like I will have to put it on my list of places to go in the cooler months.
  8. The Flying J North of us charges $5 if you dont have a frequent fueler card. I figured the rest wouldnt be far behind.
  9. They may hold orders until they get enough of a backlog on a specific product to justify building them. WIth all the changes in the RV industry in the last few years I doubt there is a lot of flexibility in their scheduling. I had a guy in Montana ask me about window parts for his trailer (same model as mine) because he had broken part of it and was told that the manufacturer was no longer in business and parts were unavailable, both of our trailers were less than 3 yrs old.
  10. glad your radio system works, our fine county spent 43 million on a new system and we cant even use it for some of our day to day communications, we have to revert to cell phones.
  11. You mean that TV and the movies arent accurate ? LOL personally I favor my .45
  12. Theres an awful lot of folks with .380's these days, they are very popular in the summer. Big brother carries one in his front pocket and you would never be able to tell.
  13. The water line break was most likely just a coincidence. If they had used a hydrant someowhere in the system it would have lowered pressure. The hydrants take a little time to shut off to avoid sudden pressure spikes (water hammer)
  14. And Jimmie was named the most influential athlete in America. Go #48 !
  15. It wouldnt be a race weekend without some rain ! I can remember going to the time trials in Indy when I was a kid, pouring rain and then blazing hot sun all in the same day, us kids eating the cookies my Mom made and Dad slugging down beer like there was no tomorrow.... ahhhhh good times. BTW, that was an awesome race yesterday and Edwards did some good clean, hard racing there at the end. Of course my favorite person to hate (Steven Wallace) plowed into everyone 30 minutes after the wreck started. I wonder when his Dad is gonna get tired of having to hang a new body every week and get a real
  16. I have a Craftsman fan that uses the 19volt batteries that my drill and impact use, we have used it when dry camping. Typically we go back at least every 4-5 hrs to check on the dog
  17. I think the most common problem is loss of power at the campground. Anything mechanical has the ability to fail. Maybe a good checkup at the RV service place would prevent a potential breakdown.
  18. Christmas is all but canceled, maybe one long weekend at a state park about 160 miles North but other than that its driveway camping this summer. Too many cuts and belt tightening to even consider making up for $4.20 diesel.
  19. I am not 100% sure if they are made domestically now but I do know the Marathons were made in China for a while.
  20. While cleaning the wheels and armor all'ing the tires on the trailer last week I found 3 of the 4 tires with long cracks in the sidewalls. It looked more like they had been run flat and the sidewall was cracking about 1" from the bead, the cracking was very small in most spots and really hard to see until I put the armor all on them, the 2 that were the worst are the ones that are next to the garage wall and get zero direct sunlight. Of course we were pulling out to go to the dunes for the weekend and I wasnt going to chance peeling the side off the trailer so.... a trip to Discount tire and 4
  21. This really ticks me off. I was just fixing to go to the morgue and get a dead person to put in the passenger seat. This obviously changes it all. Dead people make great passengers on a road trip (as long as they were strangers) they dont care when you stop, they always agree with your resteraunt choice and they never complain about your driving.
