  1. Glad to "meet" you Rob. May run into each other around the campgrounds here in beautiful E.TN or down at FW. Got a question for you- When you go down to FW, where do you stop overnight? Our first trip to the Fort is coming up in Nov. and trying to do my planning.

I'll throw my 2 cents in on this one. Last year we made it to exit 5 on I-75 and stayed at https://www.eaglesroostresort.com/. It was right off the interstate and not too noisy. There is also a new(er) camping world on the other side of I-75 at that same exit that we will look at in October when coming down. From this exit it was a nice quick drive to the Fort, I want to say it was in the 4 hour range.

  2. 2 kiddos for us

We will do a little TOTing for the girls but I don't imagine we will be out long for that. We might look for some fellow Fiends to hang with after that and hand out candy....of course we would bring some to donate to the cause. Is there any particular site that the Fiends will be handing out candy from?

  3. Hey- the first nationally televised games of the season will be on one week from today!

Then there are games on Friday, Saturday, and even Monday when The OSU begins its defense of its National Championship.

Game Day is at the Bama game, and SEC Network is in Arkansas (with no Timmy this year).

    Go Gata.

    TCD

It can't get here soon enough..

  4. Kelly I think I will prefer to walk especially the week of Halloween. LOL. Yes I am getting used to the truck. The only issue I am having is a very bouncy ride even not towing. I am going to look at replacing the shocks. I expect this to feel like a truck but I am talking to people on the phone while driving and they have a hard time understanding me. Now if I can get NaCole to slow down on spending the money on so much camping that I can buy shocks :).

I replaced the shocks on my Ford and made a good bit of difference in the ride.

Also - check the tire pressures and see where they are. If they are set to max pressure (of the tire, not the sticker on the truck) you can likely get a better ride by adjusting the air pressure.

  5. I hate to say it but it appears the Helms family might not be able to make this trip, I will keep the reservation for now but just not sure we will be able to pull off this trip.
Wifey had to have some unexpected surgery last week and has set us back a bit. We are going to try our best to be there as I really don't want to miss this GG again! If I had to guess it will be a game time decisions for us on making this one. :(

  6. Thanks for the link!

Okay... you and GradyBunch stink  ;)     On the fuel tank...we'll take a wait and see on that.  The larger tank would be nice but, we still have little ones so an extra stop on the way to the Fort isn't the worst thing for little legs and little bladders :)  The rest of the time, we're pretty local with our camping.  Silly that Ford put in such a small tank (I think the extended cab is larger?).

It's been my experience that the bladders in the truck dictate the stops more than the fuel levels when traveling long distances :)

To get the larger fuel tank you have to have the long bed with Ford, I think mine is in the 38 gallon range but not 100% sure on that.

    First off, CONGRATULATIONS!

I had always owned Gas trucks, and NEVER considered using cruise control while towing, until I switched to Diesel. It truly is unreal how easily the diesel seems to pull compared to all of my previous gassers.

Regarding tank size, I feel like I researched this as much or more than you did while searching for a truck. When I had my F250 V10, it was a shortbed also, which for some reason Ford thinks must have a 26-28 gallon tank (26 for gas, 28 for diesel). I was getting ~6-7 mpg towing in the gasser which means I was stopping every 120-130 miles for gas, at least yours is diesel and you can go a little further. The tank I was certain I was going to buy was the Titan Tank replacement (https://titanfueltanks.com/), until I learned they only are made for diesel   with that in mind they offer a 50 gallon replacement tank that will fit in the same space as your 28 gallon. They are sold direct or through a local garage, and I found that most local garage(s) will offer a better price than listed on website and installation is included.  Probably not a purchase in your near future, but worth looking at for future consideration.

Again, Congratulations on your new purchase that is a nice looking truck.......now about that front tag.....

Yep, that's the tank I was thinking of. Initially I was going to add one but got a little sticker shock and decided it wasn't worth it for another 12(ish) gallons.

  7. Congrats on the new truck finally!

I feel your pain with the missing LATCH system, I'm used to using the belt and anchor behind the headrest now.

Titan ( I think thats the brand) makes fuel tanks to replace the stock one and if I remember right its around 50 gallons. Give them a look if you are wanting to spend the $$ on a larger tank.

I hope you got a discount on the truck for that hideous front plate  :P

I'll second that GO VOLS! from GradyBunch  :D

  8. Yep it's one thing you don't need all the time but when you need it you really need it.

    I couldn't agree more.

We were at a festival of some sort a while back and parked in grass, headed downhill just a bit. When it came time to leave I put the truck in reverse (old truck that wasn't a dually) and the tires just spun, I wasn't moving an inch. This wasn't a large incline with wet grass, just a slight downhill and without 4WD I would have been at the mercy of someone helping me to back out.
