Retired & Tired (Judy) reacted to Lou... in Let's go Lou-ping
We're leaving Typhoon Lagoon and heading to the Downtown Disney Resort Area which consists of POR, OKWR, and the SSR. It also includes the resorts on Hotel Plaza Blvd, but we won't visit those.
Lets go lou-ping around the Port Orleans resort which is made up of PO Riverside and the PO French Quarter. We'll enter through the FQ.
Hey, there's the FQ greeter. I had an outfit just like that in the 70s.

All of the rooms at PORS and POFQ have been going through a refurbishment. Other than that, not much new here, so we'll move on to PO Riverside South Depot. This is where you'll find the "River Roost Lounge" where YeHaa Bob, not to be confused with TnBob, performs. He performs at 8:30. 9:30, and 10:30.
A nice perk at the POR is the boat to DTD.
Take a left out of POR, then a left onto Vacation Club Way and we're off to the land of Hemingway and Jimmy Buffet, the Old Key West resort..
Listen up, if you guys promise to behave, we'll stop for a Margarita break at the "Gurgling Suitcase", Nicki's buying?
Back on the bus hooligans. It may not be obvious, but this is the most challenging resort to drive a bus through. I've heard that the roads were actually designed for a tram system and not meant for buses. I can believe that.
The OKWR is one of the prettier resorts on property. The view along the the main road is one of the most picturesque anywhere. The endless row of palm trees, the boat dock, and the light house, it's great.

If you're ever at DTD, take the boat to OKW and have lunch at Olivia's Café. I hear that the Conch Fritters and Conch Chowder are very good. Add the musical sounds of Key West and it makes for a pleasant afternoon.
If you're a golfer, the course may be right outside your window. The rooms have recently been refurbished and the roads were also repaved.
Boat service to DTD is also available.
Right down the road is the sprawling Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa which includes the very cool and expensive Tree Houses Villas.
As we enter you'll notice that the roadway surface appears new, it is. The main entrance and exit were closed for months while they resurfaced them to look like cobblestone. The closure and detour added at least 10 minutes to all the bus rides.
The SSR is a recycled resort of sorts. It was the site for the failed Disney Institute. They tore down a lot of it and re-imagined some of it.
The pool in the Paddock section was completely redone last year and is looking great. Like the other two previous resorts there is boat service to DTD.
In order to get to the Tree House Villas we have to leave Saratoga Springs and drive up the road. The Tree Houses are not really tree houses. It's a three bedroom house that is elevated 10'. It's a back to nature thing.
That's it for the DTD Resort Area. Up next are the Epcot Resort Area and the Wide World of Sports Resort Area. Did you know that there was such a resort area? It's made up of the sports complex and two resorts. Do you know which ones?

moderators on this site are not like the dictatorships you see elsewhere on the internet...We work on self moderation here, which may not be liked by some, but is for the betterment of the community as a whole. Kenny is not a sponsor here but does service our community members. To say it was my job to see if the op is legit implies we have a dictatorship and censorship here. Neither of those two happen here very often, period.

One year we had a little boy, about 6 or 7, coming to our site and just coming right on in to the side room, was not zippered closed as I was outside. When I asked him what he wanted he said to play. I told him our children were in wheel chairs and could not play.
He kept coming back and trying to get in. I finally told him not to come on our site any more or I would have to visit his parents.
I did not see him again at our site. But I have to admit I was afraid he would come while we were gone.
Now, just because this is WDW and most people camping are honest people, did those parents have no concern for their child?
We could have kidnapped the child and who would have known. People MUST be careful with their children. Most of the time when I see this happening it is with first timers or parents who send the children out to roam so they can have peace and quiet. One day, God forbid, something is going to happen to the children and no one will ever know.
Again, there is no cure for stupidity.

When we are in our golf cart we always move to the side of the road for any cars, buses or trucks to pass us. When in the loops we always move over to allow any RVs coming in to pass and get into their site. And we move for people on bikes and walking. I have children and granchildren, as all of you know, and it scares me to see these young children on the roads (even in the loops) with no one supervising them. And we do not allow our grandchildren who do not have a license drive our golf cart.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to what one can do when we do see an underage driver? Do we follow them to see what site they are in and then report them? If we do report them will the Disney folks do anything about it?
We have had to move off the side of the roadway, in the loops, to keep our children from being hit in their wheel chairs.
Sometimes I wonder where courtesy and caring went. :soapbox:

Lou, you know you can't talk those of us who love inflatables out of using them. What would I ever replace them with? Just wait, ours start going up on the 9th of December and should be all up by the 11th or 12th. I was not going to buy any more but now I may just have to.........ha! Think I will give you a down arrow for that one. But then you would like that. :jumpforjoy :mh1: :dmmhu: :thtray:

Write it out in crayon for the 'Bama fans, it seems to help. You might have to explain some of the longer words.
    (I can't resist.)

ND has a few shady ones as well, I'm sorry to report. They claim a NC from the year of the Four Horsemen ('24, if I'm not mistaken) which was retroactively awarded about 15 years later. Back in those times, if teams were ranked at all, it was a regional ranking, because the idea of a national champion was simply not feasible given the state of transportation technology and the popularity of the game.
I'm not saying those old ND teams weren't worthy of the title "champion," it's just that such a title didn't exist at the time, so it's not entirely honest to claim it.

It would be even better if it had the Alabama Crimson Tide logos on the side. LOL :jumpforjoy

Not just my standard, I was simply agreeing with a previous poster.
Ok, let me say that I don't think Hilda's site organizational style is what it should be. How's that?
What do I have to say to make it worth more?
Well at least I might get some down arrows from Bob, I really need some.
And it was Starbuc that called Hilda's stuff junk first, so he should get one too, neener, neener, neener.
I think most people that see that site think it's a little much.
I've talked to Hilda several times and shes always been very nice to me, but as I haven't talked to her lately, I didn't know that she was no longer a CM. Correction noted.
I guess Bob34787 and I will have to agree to disagree about Hilda's site.

you would be wrong, she gave up the cast member position almost 4 months ago. and your opinion about junk is subject to your standard, which is rather harsh and obviously worth very little to me.

Retired & Tired (Judy) got a reaction from Nicki aka Rebelstand in First trip to the fort since losing my wife, any tips?
Oh no.....we are so sorry for your loss. As you have probably read, we lost two children this past year (June 24 and December 12) and both times we debated on whether to continue with our plans to make the trip to WDW. Both times we agreed we HAD to go and needed to go. Both our children and the other 2 we lost in 2006 and 2008, are always with us. Winnie the Pooh one said "If we should ever have to be apart, just keep me in your heart and I will always be with you". Your precious wife will always be with ALL of you. She would not want you all sitting around grieving over her passing but rather she would want you celebrating her life. My little suggestion would be: Name the motor home for her....her favorite nickname, the name she wanted to call it......
And put her picture on the wall in the RV.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Hope to meet you sometime at the Fort. We will be there in June and back in December. God Bless You.
