I hate boats. Some of you may know that about me, but for most of you this is probably a surprise. After all, I happily board the boats at WDW to travel to the MK, or to the resorts. And I do enjoy canoing. But overall, I am typically nervous riding on a boat, and in particular the thought of someone falling overboard, realistic or not, has always scared me away from cruising. Until now.
My interest in the Disney Dream was piqued before it was built...when they announced the AquaDuck and all the cool amenities. I figured that someday I would like to sail on that ship. But I also figured it wouldn't happen until the kids were older. But all of that changed back in July.
You see, I had booked an "end of summer" trip for us to Orlando for Labor Day weekend. I had a bunch of Southwest points and Marriott points, so I booked 7 tickets to MCO and booked the JW Marriott with the lazy river. We planned on leaving on Sept 1, INC's birthday, and returning home the following Thursday. Those dates were determined by the availability of the airline reward tickets. The kids would miss 3 days of school but everyone was fine with that. The planning was complete in May, and we just had to wait until September to leave.
And then, in July, I began reading TCD's Dream cruise TR. That spurred me to do a bunch of research on the Dream. On a lark, I looked at the sailing schedule, and there was a 4 night cruise that matched our plane tickets perfectly. Hmmm. The wheels started spinning. I exchanged a bunch of PM's with TCD asking questions. I was getting more convinced that this might be a great trip for my family. Something happens to parents when their children start approaching college age. You begin to view things in terms of the inescapable fact that they will be leaving the nest soon. I'm not ready for that. But I'm determined to make the most of our remaining time together under one roof. So, on a Friday afternoon in mid-July, I pulled the trigger and booked 2 connecting cabins for the September 2 Dream cruise! And, I didn't tell INC or the girls. This was going to be a surprise!
And so, let's get this thing underway. I typically will begin my reports with some headlines we will encounter along the way. What will we cover?

I love the stare down. That chick looks a lot like a woman in my neighborhood who wears a similar hat. INC would like to slap it off her head. Good for you for taking her pic.
Reminds me of something that happened to me a couple weeks ago on my way to work. A woman was tailgating me in a Jag coming down a steep, long hill. Speed limit is 40, and I was doing 42-43 or so. At the bottom of the hill there is an intersection, and just before that she crossed double lines to pass me and cut me off. We then got caught at the light, me right behind her. I could see her looking at me in her mirror, so I took my phone and proceeded to take pictures of her, including her license plate. She started waving her arms at me, rolled down her window and gave me the finger. I couldn't help but laugh. She got herself so worked up...why can't people just relax?

Loved the report! You are hilarious. And patient. I am a patient person too...but sometimes it is very hard. Sharing a weekend with another family, including trying to mesh differing schedules, is very tough. Did it once. Probably won't do it again. Every family has it's own vibe. Even with people that get along well, those different habits don't get along well. That's one thing about the Fiends we've camped with that works so well. Everyone does their own thing, and spends time together as much as they want. We are early risers. That meant at Stone Mtn we enjoyed some nice morning visiting with other early risers like H and KFK, and Donnie. We'd chat with Bob, Kathy and the kids during the day, and spend time with everyone hanging out at Lorna's site over dinner and into the evening. But everyone runs on their own time. If you want to head off for the day, you go. You will find that most Fiends are the easiest going people you'll meet.

I am very happy to hear they are using pagers for the Trails End takeout. And that is yet another example of how awesome this site is...you may consider yourself a "newbie", but you have already enlightened us with a scoop!

"Snow White" and "hot" are not phrases that should be used together.
Proper terms to be used with Snow White are "apple munching whack job", "crazed bird whisperer", "elusive biotch", or just simply "idiot".

I made a reservation. I'm actually not that interested in the menu...but for some reason I get into the quest for a "hard to get" ADR now and then. So I took it as my mission today to get one. And I finally did get through using the UK dining number. I bet the CM was surprised that I didn't have a British accent. :rofl2:
In any case, unless the reviews are great for dinner I will likely end up canceling it. But I am interested in the atmosphere, especially at night during the holidays. I bet it is just magical. We will see.

Well, I know of a place that once built a pretty decent mousetrap, but then the owners of the mousetrap shop made a very curious decision to kick their customers out and lock the door behind them. A couple of the mousetrap customers built and even better mousetrap and invited everyone from far and wide to come and share in the mousetraps, to help others obtain mousetraps, to spread the word about mousetraps and to get together as often as possible to enjoy each other's company and share mousetrap stories.
And whatever happened to that original store that had built the pretty good mousetrap? Last I heard they had caught a snake in their mousetrap and now nobody wants them anymore.

They might as well close the beach for swimming, rip out the swamp trail boardwalk, take down the hammocks, kill all of the goats at the petting zoo, severely limit cart access, take Crockett's nice menu away, do away with the stump trash cans, remove the basketballs from the boxes, shut down the train and tear out the tracks, fire the grocery truck guy, lay off the mounted rangers, and double (or triple) the price of everything over the next ten years!!!! Nobody would camp there then.
