The Wave always seemed to have tables available.

It's been one of our "go to's" when we wanted something "out" but didn't want to venture too far (and don't have any ADRs, which we rarely book super far in advance). We usually snagged a couple of seats at the bar, and there was always room.  I was never really sure why it always seemed pretty empty.  We always found the food to be good and not outrageously overpriced.

I'll be curious to see where prices land.  We don't do steak out much at WDW - partly because we can get good steak at home, and also because the WDW steak markup is bonkers - but we do like  place with a range of good apps and a few decent entrees.  Especially if you can get there by boat.

First Look: Menus for Steakhouse 71, Opening Soon at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

    Karen McClintock

by Karen McClintock, Food & Beverage Content Relations Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts

Steakhouse 71, located on the first floor of Disney’s Contemporary Resort, will open its doors on Oct. 1 for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and we are excited to give our Disney Parks Blog readers the first look at all the menus!

The chefs created a terrific dinner menu with all the hallmarks of a family-friendly steakhouse, and offerings at breakfast and lunch are unique and delicious. They even give a nod to Walt Disney with contemporary spins on some of his favorite foods.

And kids get to be creative with their meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They can choose an entrée, select two sides, and a drink from a menu that includes oatmeal with dried cranberries and Mickey-shaped waffles for breakfast and PBJ wings and cheeseburgers for lunch and dinner. They can even create their own ice cream sundae!

Our talented mixologists and sommeliers have crafted fabulous alcoholic and nonalcoholic libations offered in the Steakhouse 71 Lounge or to enjoy while you are dining.

Check out all the new menus – guaranteed to make you hungry!

Steakhouse 71, which gets its name from the year the resort opened, has a sleek yet comfortable décor with fun design elements from the ‘70s and hints of our Florida heritage with subtle sightings of the beloved Orange Bird and citrus groves.

Start your Disney day with a delicious breakfast at Steakhouse 71. The breakfast menu offers everything from Fresh-baked Pastries and Avocado Toast to Walt’s Prime Rib Hash and Eggs Benedict! Enjoy a variety of wake-up sips like the Steakhouse Bloody Mary and the Bourbon Cold Brew (Joffrey’s Coffee Cold Brew, bourbon, maple, vanilla bean cream), as well as espresso, cappuccino, latte, freshly brewed coffee, assorted teas, and juices.

Love a tasty lunch as I do? Take a lunch break and relax at Steakhouse 71. Check out this fantastic lunch menu – the Wedge Salad and Steakhouse 71 Stack Burger are calling my name!

Now, THIS is a steakhouse menu! Customize your steak entrée with a choice of a side and yummy sauce. Craving something other than a steak? Steakhouse 71 has delicious fish, chicken, and plant-based offerings as well.

    Steakhouse 71 Chocolate Cake

One of my favorite desserts is the Steakhouse 71 Chocolate Cake. It is 15 layers of whiskey-infused chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, and raspberries – one layer for every floor at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

Before dining (or any time), relax, sip, and nosh in the retro Steakhouse 71 Lounge with comfortable seating at the large rectangular bar.

    Drinks from Steakhouse 71

The mixologists and sommeliers have created unique and refreshing concoctions to enjoy in the Steakhouse 71 Lounge or while you are dining.

Citrus groves surrounding the resort when first being built were the inspiration for two refreshing cocktails. The Citrus Grove Cocktail (Italian bitter, green herbal liqueur, citrus juices, simple syrup, and orange bitters) evokes the scents of fresh oranges and citrus groves. And the Steakhouse 71 Vodka Gimlet (vodka, green herbal liqueur, herbal blend, lime juice, simple syrup, and Minute Maid Premium Lemonade) is a fresh and herbaceous cocktail inspired by the Florida wetlands. The “Lily” pad garnish is in honor of Lillian Disney.

While you enjoy the subtle ‘70s vibe of the restaurant, relax with a popular drink from that decade – the Tequila Sunrise! Our mixologists gave their Tequila Sunrise a modern twist with tequila, tropical juices, rosemary simple syrup, and house-made grenadine. A “sharable” Tequila Sunrise is available for lunch and dinner, serving 2-4 guests.

Steakhouse 71 proudly offers a selection of “Disney Family of Wines,” a diverse collection of wines with a personal connection to the Disney name. The wineries display qualities long identified with Walt Disney and The Walt Disney Company – passion, innovation, and quality.

Reservations for Steakhouse 71 are available beginning Sept. 16. To make reservations, visit the Walt Disney World Resort website

NEWS: Yehaa Bob Jackson is Coming BACK to Disney World!

    By  Leave a Comment

Last year, large layoffs impacted a multitude of Cast Members in the Disney parks, including a number of fan-favorite performers.

One of the individuals that was laid off last year was Yehaa Bob Jackson, a performer that fans used to be able to watch over at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside. But now, Yehaa Bob has announced that he’ll be coming back to Disney World very soon!

According to a video posted on Facebook by Yehaa Bob’s Jackson, Disney called him recently and told him he’d be returning to the stage October 14th, which is the reopening date for Disney’s Port Orleans Resort — Riverside!

Jackson said the Disney Cast Member he spoke to indicated he would be back for his regular hours — 8:30 PM to about midnight. He said he’ll be performing on the 14th and 15th, but on the 16th he has a prior engagement he has to attend to and wouldn’t be performing.

After that, he said the Cast Member he spoke to wasn’t sure what his “regular” days would be. Jackson noted that previously he would work Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. He said he assumes it might be the same, but shared that his schedule could also be different.

He said he also plans on keeping the Sunday night show going, which is something he does virtually.

I just don’t see how this is sustainable in the big picture.

Agreed.  Our priorities have shifted in recent years as well (and for sure our incomes haven't doubled) which is mostly why we haven't been in over 3 years and won't be back until next fall (hopefully).  I don't know if we'll ever be able to justify going every year for multiple weeks again like we did for the prior 15+. But that's ok. Nothing stays the same forever.  I am at least glad that our last big trip was for 6 weeks and we enjoyed every minute of it.

That pricing is actually not very much more than the only option out of state guests had to pay under the old AP structure.  I personally am surprised that it isn’t more.  People know how to stretch an AP for almost two years’ worth of travel, and these things are going to sell well.

That's what we've been doing for a long time.  It's worth it for us, when we can generally get a total of 6 weeks or so on a pass.

Honestly I expected the price to be even higher, given how much it's jumped each year over the past 10 or so, and the current cost of things.

For a long time they crept up a bit each year ($20-50) until a few years ago when those annual jumps got much bigger.  $200 more than the last increase isn't a surprise.

    2010: $499
    2011: $510
    2012: $574
    2013: $609
    2014: $634
    2015: $654
    2016: $749
    2017: $779
    2018: $895
    2019: $1119

    2021: $1299

    What’s New

Here are some highlights of our new Annual Passes:

    • Hold More Park Reservations: Depending on their pass type, Passholders may now hold up to five Disney Park Pass reservations at a time. We’ll also be adding “bonus reservations” to the calendar from time to time, so Passholders can make an additional park reservation without it counting against their applicable reservation hold limit. Plus, when Passholders stay at Disney Resort hotels or other select hotels, they will also be eligible to make theme park reservations for each day of their stay – in addition to the reservations you can hold based on your pass type!
    • Customize Your Pass: Choose different add-on options based on your preferences – from the Water Park and Sports option to Disney PhotoPass downloads. These add-on options will be available for purchase with any of our four new passes.
    • Access a New Integrated Calendar: Planning will be easier with enhancements to our reservation system, including a new integrated calendar that lets Passholders quickly see blockout dates for each pass type, view available days and make, modify or cancel a reservation all in one place.
    • Enjoy Passholder Perks: Passes will continue to offerbenefits you know and love including the Park Hopper option, standard theme park parking and discounts on merchandise and dining. And, there will be a few special surprises throughout the 50th anniversary celebration!

Click here to discover more information on your pass options available beginning Sept. 8, 2021.

We’re also introducing a new look for the Annual Passholder program to honor our past while looking forward to the future. Using a piece of the original Walt Disney World Resort logo as a foundation for bright colors and energetic design, the program’s new look puts Passholders right in the middle of the magic.

Please note as we continue to manage attendance to provide a great experience for everyone, at any time, Annual Passes may be unavailable for purchase. Annual Passholders will also still be required to make park reservations for each day of their visit. Go to DisneyWorld.com/Pass for more information and important details about our new Annual Passes.

    Current Passholders

Thank you to all of our current Annual Passholders for your continued loyalty, passion and dedication, particularly over the past year and a half. If you are a current Passholder, please know you may continue to use your Annual Pass as you do today – when it is time for you to renew, you will be able to renew into one of our new passes (at a special renewal price). Also be on the lookout for a new exclusive magnet coming your way soon.

Now is the perfect time to be an Annual Passholder with unforgettable experiences coming during the 50th anniversary celebration. Soon, you’ll be able to check out two new nighttime spectaculars with “Disney Enchantment” and “Harmonious,” each set to debut on Oct. 1! Also beginning Oct. 1, guests can experience our newest attraction, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure at EPCOT (soon offering Passholder previews for those who registered!).

Every morning, we welcome guests from all over the world to Walt Disney World Resort – some for the very first time, others for the first time in a while. And then there are those who visit more often, those who can no longer keep count of the days and nights they’ve spent at the parks. For these guests, a day at Disney brings a special type of magic unlike any other – Passholder magic – and that’s why we cannot wait to welcome Annual Passholders during this unforgettable 18-month event!

To enter a theme park, each passholder must have a theme park reservation in addition to a valid pass. Park reservations are limited and are subject to availability and applicable pass blockout dates, and are not guaranteed for any specific dates or park.  A pass excludes separately priced activities and events.  An annual pass does not guarantee admission or entry into any park, experience, attraction or offering.  Park reservations may not be available on certain holidays in certain parks.  Some pass benefits and features may not be available during periods of limited capacity. Also, park experiences and offerings may be modified and are subject to limited availability or even closure.

Please check DisneyWorld.com/updates for important information to know before visiting the Walt Disney World Resort.

*12 monthly payments based on remaining balance after one-time down payment on date of purchase. 0% APR. Monthly Payment Program only available to Florida residents at least 18 years old with valid ID. Subject to additional terms and conditions.

I am ready to embrace the Genie+, but I'm sure there will be the usual bandwidth frustrations of trying to get on the Disney wi-fi. ...Being able to wander around and enjoy other activities when I would have been stuck waiting in a line is great.  And for this trip, I will happily pay for RotR passes... I don't see paying for any other premium ride.

I am sad to see the free fast passes going away, but pretty much expected it.

    All this ^

Especially that last bit.  UO and other big parks have had paid FOTL passes for years now.  I'm surprised it's taken Disney this long.

Imagineer Zach Riddley shared a sneak peek this morning of Club Cool, which will soon return to EPCOT in a new location! 🥤
The location will open “very soon,” and guests will be able to “taste test popular Coca-Cola flavors from different countries.” This DOES include Beverly which will have a spot on the soda fountain upon reopening! 😁

Disney CEO Says “Guests Will Spend Less Time in Line” with Disney Genie, Possibly References Paid FastPass Service Tie-In

In today’s Q3 earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek said, “Guests will spend less time in line and more time having fun.” Chapek discussed the “guest-centric services” that Disney has been developing for years, including the new Magic Key pass program for Disneyland and the upcoming Disney Genie app.

Specifically, Chapek noted a significant investment into Disney Genie to enable guests to “more easily and efficiently navigate everything [the] parks have to offer” and promised more details soon.

The company hopes to provide a user-friendly app allowing for a more personalized and customized experience for guests, putting them in control with more flexibility and choice. Chapek said Disney Genie is “transformational,” calling it the MyMagic+ program “on steroids.”

It will use “consumer preferences, given what we know from them, blended with industrial engineering data based on how our park is operating that day to make suggestions on the fly.” He also noted it will lead to substantial commercial opportunities.

It has been long rumored that Disney Genie will recommend rides with shorter wait times or paid opportunities, possibly like the new Premier Access program at Disneyland Paris. Premier Access is a replacement for the free FastPass program, offering guests the chance to pay for access to shorter wait times.

PHOTOS: Kids swim in flooded streets at Disney's Magic Kingdom

Heavy rains caused some flooding at Disney's Magic Kingdom on Thursday and the kids took advantage of it.

ORLANDO, Fla. - A rainy day at a theme park can sometimes ruin the fun for some guests, but not when you're a kid at Disney's Magic Kingdom!

Cassie Claire Chase shared photos and video with FOX 35 News of the flooded streets at the theme park on Thursday after a storm rolled through. Instead of huddling under whatever covering they could find, kids took advantage of the new ‘water park.’

"Magic Kingdom turned into a waterpark!" she wrote on the Annual Passholders page. "This was around 3pm in between the Cheshire Cat and Cosmic Ray cafes."

Kids are seen splashing around in the ankle-deep water and some even laid down to swim in it!

I would be surprised if a majority of the employees moved with the mission. While typically made for other business reasons companies try to take advantage of mission moves to reduce headcount. They know that many of the older higher paid employees and those with deep local ties will leave the company rather than move. I would expect this to be the case with the California work force. The result is the company reduces headcount while getting good PR in the receiving location about all of the jobs they created as it is rare for people to go back and look to see if they really brought all of the promised jobs.

I hadn't even considered this angle, but it makes a lot of sense.

I'll bet it's more like 50%.  It's hard to get people to move away from the area they are used to, to say nothing of leaving family, if they are close.

Personally, I'd have to realllllly love my job (and be paid darned well for it) to move 3000 miles away from everything.  Not to mention those with spouses/partners will have to be willing to leave their jobs and find new ones as well.

    Plus there's the housing consideration...

"This comes as the Orlando housing market is showing some of the lowest supply of houses available in history, with demand at an all-time high."

We are in the same boat. Rene and I would would pick our parks by late night extra hours.  We would usually go around 10 - 11  AM take a ride or two,  eat lunch then head back to our site. Then depending upon our dinner plans we would head back to the park around 6 - 7 PM for dinner and stay until the park extra hours were over. It is the reduction of the late night EMH perk that has had the biggest effect on us cutting back on trips.

We usually hang around the site, have a late breakfast/early lunch (ok, it's brunch LOL), and do "dog things" until around noon-ish - make sure all the canines are fed and  played with (i.e. good and tired). Then we head into the parks. Regular (unpaid) P.M. EMH essentially going away is a bummer for us. Especially since we try to go during slower times, which means when park hours are shorter.  Disney Springs has filled that gap a bit, as it's a good place to just poke around and you can grab a drink and usually find good live music to hang out and listen to, but it's not the same as walking through an almost empty MK at 2am and being one of the last ones on a boat back to the Fort.

All that said, we'd most likely be all in for this party in part for the later hours.
