One trip my legs looked like I had the plague. I still have scarring. Worst thing ever and the Benadryl barely touched it. It was the first time something like that had happened so not I am super cautious.

Sounds familiar!  I finally figured out that the bites on my feet were from walking the dogs out along the canal in just crocs, no socks.  Started putting socks on and that helped a bit. It honestly looked like my feet had the chicken pox and they were the itchiest bites I've ever had in my life. Benadryl took the edge off a bit, but really didn't help much.

And while mosquitos love me up here in NH, when I get bitten in FL I end up with nasty bumps that take weeks to go down.

And then there's DH, who gets nary a bite anywhere.

I tell him he's just not delicious.  ;)

Let me know how it works for you. I am one of those people that if there is a biting insect within 3 miles they will skip all other targets to come after me.

Same!  And for whatever reason, FL bitey things affect me worse than here.  I end up with welts and one trip my foot blew up so much I could barely get my shoe on.

  3. A bit of encouraging news...

In Disney’s Shareholders Meeting today, CEO Bob Chapek had an update on the Disney College Program...
Chapek stated that while there is no official date for when the Disney College Program can resume, its participants are a “tremendous asset” to the company, and he looks forward to welcoming them back once there are fewer restraints on capacity in the parks. He added that while he can’t promise specifics, he’s hoping the College Program will be back by the end of the year. Disney also stated that it will look into a way to include participants who aged out of the College Program during its suspension.

Remember, the 50th anniversary celebration will be going into 2023, so you have all of 2022 available.  Things BETTER be back to normal by then. 😄

I know... but it's also our 25th anniversary and we ended up having to cancel our 20th trip, so we were really hoping to make this a two-fer.

But hey, if we do end up putting it off a little longer, I'm going to have enough Chase Rewards points racked up to pay for a whole lotta Dole Whips!!

But if you're a real Disnerd, you will have to be there 10/1/2021!

In a normal year I would have driven down just for the day.

(see: once drove 40 hours to be there for 24)

I agree if we live out of state, I would wait till next year.

We're in NH and right now are booked for a few weeks in November. Really hoping things are a lot more "normal" by then.  As much as we love hanging out at the Fort, it's too far for us to go and too much for us to spend if so many things in the parks are still weird/closed.

We had hoped to be there for the 50th, and it's our 25th anniversary to boot, but if things aren't more open by then we may shorten our time at WDW and maybe head to the coast or Keys for the rest.

we have a few ideas for treat diapering from a distance. Clothes line. Chute. Sling shot/ toss. Any advice on location

We will definitely need pics/videos of whatever you come up with.  🙂

The cabins will get some visitors, but not like the big loops down around the meadow area.

Even with camping loops, the further away you are from the action, the less traffic they get.  With the cabin loops being even further away, I'd have to think the same holds true.

I don't have my map handy, but maybe shoot for the newest cabin loop and as close to the entrance of the loop as possible?

If you decorate well to attract attention, you should get at least a little bit of traffic.

Of course all pending what Halloween 2021 brings of course.

Oh and welcome to Fort Fiends!!

  7. ... will be 18 months long!  🙂

I think we all figured they'd make it last as long as possible - see (Several Years) of a Million Dreams - but this is the first I recall seeing of a definitive timeframe for the celebration.

Also, apparently the color scheme is... EARidescent.  Oh the merchandise!!  💜

The World's Most Magical Celebration - Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary

‘The World’s Most Magical Celebration’ Begins Oct. 1 in Honor of Walt Disney World Resort’s 50th Anniversary

    Jeremy Schoolfield

by Jeremy Schoolfield, Managing Editor, Walt Disney World Resort Public Relations

It’s an event five decades in the making!

Beginning Oct. 1, Walt Disney World Resort will throw “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” in honor of our 50th anniversary, bringing new experiences to our four theme parks and beyond. This milestone is such a big deal, we’ve even coined a new word – “EARidescence” – to describe what you’ll see when you visit. Our Disney teams are creating all sorts of new decorations that will shimmer and sparkle all day and into the night.

As part of the celebration, Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park will add to its royal makeover from last year. As you can see in this new artist rendering, the castle will feature golden bunting and a 50th anniversary crest as part of its festive new look.

The castle will add even more magic at night, joined by icons at each of the other three theme parks as they transform into Beacons of Magic. In the video above, you can get a feel for what they’ll look like, with pixie dust on Cinderella Castle, magical fireflies inhabiting the Tree of Life at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and special new touches coming to life on the Hollywood Tower Hotel at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

And at EPCOT, new lights will shine across the reflective panels of Spaceship Earth, connecting to one another and resembling stars in a nighttime sky. This permanent new lighting will continue beyond “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” as a defining feature of the park.

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, wearing sparkling new looks for "The World’s Most Magical Celebration” in honor of Walt Disney World Resort's 50th anniversary

You’ll also want to keep an eye out for Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, who will have sparkling new looks for the celebration. As hosts of the event, they’ll be dressed for the occasion in custom-made fashions of EARidescent fabric with gold highlights.

In anticipation of this exciting time, we recently went out across Walt Disney World to talk with guests and Disney cast members about what a magical celebration would mean to them and why they love being here so much. This new video captures a lot of the emotions we’re feeling right now as we prepare for our 50th anniversary:

Speaking for my fellow Walt Disney World cast members, we’re looking forward to welcoming you during this special time in our history. We’ll have more to share about our plans for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” in the future as we ramp up to the big day on Oct. 1, and then will be chronicling all the magic to be found during the 18-month-long event. So keep checking back here on the Disney Parks Blog for the latest updates on what promises to be something to remember for the next 50 years.

  8. As usual these days, I'm late to the party. Huge thanks to Jen and Chris for putting this fabulous little community together ... how is it 10 years already?!?! I'm so grateful for all the FrIENDS I've made here over the last decade and I hate to admit it, but, Lou too.  😎

We're gearing up for a Nor'easter here today, which makes it the perfect time to start dreaming about camping and Fiend gatherings.

Here's to the next 10 years!!

Am I the only one that likes to wing it?  who knows what I'll be in the mood for to eat or what ride I want to try 3 months or more ahead of time let alone that very morning.

We are Team Wing It all the way.  We kind of plan park days around what's open latest and isn't likely to be the most crowded, and mostly wander around.  If something we want to ride has too long a wait, we skip it and come back another time.

But that said, we're usually there for a few weeks at a whack and try not to go during super busy times, so it's not usually a problem getting out "must do" list knocked out.

We will also snag FPs on the fly through the app.  Again, got to be flexible, but if we're headed in a particular direction I'll check and it pans out more often than you might think.

One exception... TSMM.  I will snag all the FPs I can for that. I once lucked out near park close and managed to ride it 3 times in a row with a FP, a 15 minute wait, and the last time was essentially a walk on. My arm was jello by the time we left the park.
