  1. That is exactly what I did every morning. I took so many photos I had to load them on the netbook each day so my memory card didn't become full. Anytime H and thank you! I'm starting to enjoy writing trip reports, but man do they gobble up some time. We were amazed at how much we were able to see and do without our children. We took advantage of that time for sure. That is why, because you live there :) All you have to do is move away, then go back for a vacation. Thank you! I can say that I too would love to retire in that area, although retirement may never come for me I
  2. Thanks Monique! I could have stayed for 2 weeks and probably not gotten bored. It was a wonderful vacation.
  3. We are now up to Wednesday, and after the amount of walking we did Monday night and all day Tuesday, we decided to get in the car and go for a drive. We looked up the plantations in the area and decided that Drayton Hall would fit us the best. It was old, it has been preserved and not restored, so that intrigued us as we wanted to see something close to original. Here we are waiting for our car outside the hotel. Drayton Hall was about 25 minutes away from the hotel, and here is the view driving up to the main house. Here is the back side of the house facing the river. Another view of the
  4. That stinks. Come to think of it, we were the only ones there during our visit.
  5. I know. I have another odd experience coming up in my next post. Definitely! I visited Williamsburg, but never even thought to take a ghost tour. I'll have to make a point to do that when we get back there with the kids. Funny you mention the Rays. I remember the grief I got for my son sporting the Rangers hat during our New Years trip. Guess what we brought him for a souvenir? A Charleston Riverdogs hat LOL! :) Thanks. That, and the plantation I'm about to post about were my favorites.
  6. Nice campground, empty and clean. Just the way I like it. Thanks for the pictures!
  7. And the winner for most trip reports in one month goes to................TCD! Off to a great start as usual. Looking forward to more.
  8. We really enjoyed it. I would have never known about it had we not walked over that way to see what was in that area. It was a pleasant surprise. Moving right along, after a short break at the hotel we walked down to Battery Park, then back up to Market St. for dinner. On our way we saw some beautiful homes. Here is the only shot I got from the park. This house is one of the oldest in the city. Now this next photo is where things got interesting for me. Once we got back to the hotel for the night, I downloaded my photos to my netbook and I noticed some odd things in this photo. Le
  9. Too funny! That is a lot of bacon there :) Great report!
  10. Loving this report! We love the aquarium and Dollywood. Thanks for sharing.
  11. When we returned to the dock after visiting Fort Sumter, we noticed the American Military Museum next to the aquarium and decided to pop in to see what it was all about. It is not a large place, and looks rather modest from the outside. I was greeted with a nice man who gave me a little history of the museum. Apparently everything housed here is authentic. He said most of the items were donated from one individual, which after walking through, amazed me. He told me to take as many pictures as I wanted as that is how the museum is promoted. I obliged :) The museum was designed to take you f
  12. Ditto! Looks awesome. Can't wait for more.
  13. Thanks! I am patiently waiting your 2nd trip report which is right around the corner! Thank you! We had a wonderful time. I'm trying to get this done quickly, but I took more photos than normal.
  14. Well, it is now just about 8am on Tuesday morning and I have enjoyed a wonderful walk, had my gourmet cup of DD coffee, and have relaxed in Waterfront Park for a while. When I went back into the hotel lobby I was greeted with a nice arrangement of fresh fruit and pastries. We ended up taking advantage of this everyday so we could save our hunger for lunch and dinner. We had something similar to this each morning. A chocolate filled croissant and a regular croissant. They were yummy! We had planned to visit Fort Sumter and the next ferry to depart was at 12pm, so we decided to walk over to
  15. I know I have issues with sleeping in late, even on vacation. I am a very early riser. Thank you! I will definitely make James Island a destination for an upcoming trip. I have heard too many good things about this park not to. Now that is funny! Well done! Funny you mention film cameras. I debated taking an old Canon A-1 SLR for this trip, but digital has spoiled me. I want instant gratification and not knowing how something turns out drives me nuts now. Definitely plan to give yourself the majority of the day, and I would recommend parking somewhere by Market Street. This will give yo
  16. I finally got caught up on your report and just have to say, it is AWESOME! I really enjoy your reports, and am glad you take the time to catch all that makes the Fort vacations special. Thanks for a great report and I can't wait until your next one.
  17. Ok, I think that last post wrapped up day one, which was only the evening since we arrived later in the day. In keeping with my usual routine when I'm at the Fort, I woke up early on Tuesday morning and went out to explore the town before the normal day to day activities started. The early mornings are peaceful here as well, and I was able to see quite a few sites on my walks throughout our stay. Here is The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon on Bay St. We visited this on a day visit last year with my brother and family. While it was interesting, the Dungeon itself was disappointing for me.
  18. Thanks for following along! Agreed to both of you. We looked into this park for a camping trip when we take the kids and it looks great. I'm pretty sure KFK and H in SC have some pictures posted in the campgrounds thread.
  19. Great report and funny about the birds. Thanks for the pictures!
  20. I'm sorry to let you down, but I only took 2 food pictures, and they aren't that special. I will tell everyone where we ate each day though, we had great luck with food this trip. Thanks! It was a wonderful vacation! Thanks for joining in. I hear the aquarium is pretty neat. We did not visit there this time, but will do so when we take our children with us on our next visit for sure. More pictures on the way tonight. Thanks! I definitely recommend visiting here at least one time if you get the chance. I was the young age of 23 when we got married. I can't believe how fast 15 years has g
  21. Thank you! Stay tuned for an update hopefully tonight, we just got home. Thanks! More pictures on the way soon, if I don't tire out before uploading them. Thanks, and you are correct, it is on King St. I loved Charleston, and have some suspenseful stories to share in a few upcoming posts. Hope you stay tuned. The Battery was a favorite place for us to walk. We loved walking along the water side and taking in all the houses leading up to Battery Park. Thank you! The terrace was a popular spot for the hotel guests.
  22. This will not be your usual trip report. My wife and I celebrated our 15th Anniversary last week 5/25, and were lucky enough to getaway for 4 nights this week to Charleston, SC. We arrived Monday and are leaving tomorrow morning. I am typing this from our room as we take a break from all the walking we have done over the past three days. I wanted to get a start on this report live so I can organize the other photos when we get back home on Friday evening. In this report you will see a Fort (not the Fort), Cemeteries, Churches, Plantations, Historic Buildings, and some other stuff as well. I
  23. Outstanding pictures everyone! It looks like an amazing time was had, and that campground is going to be on my short list. Looks like lots of activities to keep the kids busy. Thanks so much for sharing your trip everyone!
  24. Loving your report! I love this photo. If you haven't heard "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch or read his book, I highly recommend it. He worked for Disney for a time period. Here is a little back story for you in case anyone does not know who he was. Very sad, but extremely inspiring. http://www.thelastlecture.com/index.htm Nathan looks the same today as he did as a toddler, I love it! Keep it coming!
  25. I have never stayed at Pop and didn't know about this. I can imagine that view would have been quite annoying for the past 8 years though. It amazes me that Disney does this so often. Great report Andrew! Can't wait for the next one.
