  1. At the risk of being Politically Incorrect (perhaps even "snarky"...LOL) I will repeat myself:

Disney needs to build a new Park in Brazil, not build a Brazil Land in Epcot.

(at least at first, after all there are Parks in France, Japan, China and there are corresponding Lands in Epcot)

There's clearly a demand by Brazilians for Disney, so pursue the demand at it's source....

You know, people can never be happy.  On the one hand, they are always complaining that Disney doesn't have enough thrill rides.  And now those same people are going to complain about this.

    :ROFLMAO-1:

You know, I'll bet that current Disney Mngmt looks at the Monorails the same way they look at the Fort:

An outdated, outmoded piece of Walt Disney's original Dream for his parks that they are not sure what to do with,  they know that they can't just get rid of,  they don't want to spend any of their precious money on it unless they absolutely have to, and they sure as hell aren't going to expand it.

Bring in more buses, that's the answer!    To hell with what Walt and the Imagineers wanted.....

Great pics and awesome report so far. The dog people are strange, really strange.

Anywho.. I'm definitely not going to search Amazon for a Captain's uniform for our dachsund. Nope, not doing that. :)

After reading your post I was going to go find one on Amazon and post the link back here but then I realized if I did that I'd be seeing pop-up ads for doggie costumes for weeks.......

The problem with 4WD is it lets you get going in situations where 2WD could leave you stuck. Then people forget that the number of drive wheels has no effect on stopping distance and are going too fast for the conditions when it comes time to stop.

Exactly. I've lost count of how many 4WD SUVs I've had slide into the ditch on the side of the highway. And I love it when the driver say's they crashed because the road was too slippery.... which is when I point to all the cars going by and ask why aren't there any other cars in the ditch next to yours?   LOL

I read that post. I was amazed how many people said they will just lie. Disney does read these groups postings. So they just flagged themselves.

I would be amazed if Disney had that level of organization or even has access to that information.  Actual Police Agencies have to jump thru hoops to get and keep access to State and Federal Firearms databases. Any abuse of that access is a Federal Offense and can get your entire Dept kicked off the net.

And don't forget that this is the same outfit that can't train it's Security Guards to give the same answer twice let alone enforce rules evenly.

I mean, what are they going to do if you say "No" to any of their questions? Are the Security Guards going to bring out the portable Lie Detector?  Are they going to start waving RV's into a TSA type vehicle search?

There's a reason most of us in Law Enforcement call this stuff "Security Theater".....

It was a cool day at MK yesterday and a chilly night. Still cool today, Sunday will have a high in the mid sixties. Came to watch my niece and nephew run.  She's doing the full marathon, and he's doing the Dopey Challenge, all 4 races.  He said it's been quite cold at 5:30 starting time.

High today here is 12 and high tomorrow 16......... that's w/o wind chill

We are near the ocean so those temps are warmer than further inland or up in NH and Maine.  Mt Washington was -100 overnight with wind chill.

The overnight here is practically a heatwave compared to that with -5 , and the wind chill making it ONLY -15

I do feel for you Floridians though when even the local wildlife is dropping...... literally!

They had Disney security in the pre show lobby walking around, and also against the side walls duringtheshow.  I thought that was odd.

I saw a news item somewhere a few days ago that they have had a few problems with college students standing up and screaming during Trumps speaking part. At least one had to be arrested and taken out forcibly.....  :(

Also read quite a bit about the quality of the Trump figure. From the close-ups I've seen it certainly doesn't look like Disney's best work by a long shot. How did it look from a distance?

The thing that would concern me the most is people driving golf carts or vehicles around the loops who may not be paying attention or going to fast. Especially if it's a busy time and cars are blocking visibility around curves in the loop.

Exactly. The chances your two kids would bother anyone else is small, but the way the driving rules are enforced (or mostly not enforced actually) lately would be my biggest worry.

Tell them to wear bright colors, keep their eyes open at all times, and be ready to jump into the bushes if necessary....

I spoke to a guy at the dog run a few years ago who just had his RV in the fort for his dg to stay in while the rest of his family was at the Lodge. He or his wife would just bus over a couple times a day to take him to the dog park and make sure there was fresh food and water for him.

Wow. I don't know whether to feel glad or sad for the dog.....

I know what it has cost me to be in this site the last two weeks and I sure wish I had that kind of disposable income.

Me too!  But look at it this way, better to have that site as a neighbor than one of the many large groups that have descended on the Fort the last couple of years.  Empty camper means no noise, no racing golfcarts, no people blocking the road, taking over the CS,  etc etc.....

But I do agree it is annoying for the rest of us who can't get a site to know it's just sitting there unused.... it's only one step above an unused Phantom Site......

A friend in southern ME (only about 90 minutes from here) saw -22 this morning - actual temp, not wind chill.

I don't dress up my dogs as a rule, but Bz has very little coat and no undercoat (and zero fat) has been wearing a coat every time she goes out the past could of days.  And neither dog has been outside for more than 5-10 minutes at a time.

Upside to working from home... there's been a fire in the fireplace roaring the past few days.  Really glad we got a load of wood right before Christmas!

Mo, did you see that video from the Top of Mt. Washington? They set a new daily record (not all-time, that was -47 in 1934!) of -34 degrees! One of the weather station guys went out with boiling water on this video:

Please don’t think I posted this to be negative. I just commented that there’s not as much traffic as there used to be. I encourage new people to join and tell us of their experiences.  As far as people who sell their campers because of fort management antics, I praise those people

It's not just here.  I was reading an article a few days ago about how Groups and Organizations of all kinds are slowly declining in membership and the average age of those remaining is climbing steadily.

This trend has been happening for several years now, but it seems to have accelerated very recently.

FMCA for instance (Family Motor Coach Assoc.) is now really feeling the effects of this. Not only are their numbers falling but the participation level is dropping thru the floor. The percentage of it's members that belong to active chapters is down to 30% of total members.....

They have finally decided to address the issue by letting owners of Trailers into the group, but it may be too little too late. The Rallies have shrunk and the online forums have gone quiet. Many of those who still pay to join are doing so just to get the Med-Assist benefit.

As Grumpy noted above, Facebook is one reason, the Millenials now want instant feedback and forums/boards like this are too slow for them.

One of my co-workers retired last year and took a part-time job as a school bus driver. He was worried when he was told he couldn't scold or reprimand the children because their parents would complain, but he found he didn't need to since the kids of all grades don't make a peep while on the bus..... they are all plugged into their phones....  :(

This is such a sad statement of how people are being trained to accept intrusion by officials into their lives.  That you WANT to have your personal space invaded, and expect it, is terrifying.

No one is ever safe from a person or persons that want and seriously plan to do major harm.  Allowing officials to search you as a requirement for entry is a necessary evil these days, but actually feeling unsafe because you were not searched is just wrong.

I hate having to submit to searches.  I do it because it's required.  It makes people feel 'safe'.  But it's a lie.  There is no way to be safe.  All you can do is practice situational awareness, and stay away from big crowds of people.  If you want to participate in high profile events, you are always taking a risk that you may be involved in an attack.

I always feel safe at Disney.  Heck, I always feel safe wherever I go, because I know my chance of being caught in a random attack is pretty damn low. That being said, I do always know the best exit, and the paths of highest risk.

Exactly.  That's why many in Law Enforcement call it "Security Theater".  It looks good and makes people feel "safe" because someone is "doing something" but most of us understand that if someone is willing to die in order to hurt others there is a good chance they will succeed. :(

Here's what you need to look at... rates of $50-150 a night vs rates of $500-1200+ a right. Of course, those are estimates but close. Look at the current builds... Poly bungalows, Wilderness Lodge cabins, deluxe rooms at Coronado and Caribbean beach. Value level is far from the current focus. The last full resort they built was value. They've moved on to other priorities now.

    Good point.

I guess my counterpoint would be that Disney is large enough to do more than one project at a time and a Value CG could be as simple as a glorified parking lot..... after all, how many of us would take even just a slot in a parking lot if it were considered as being on property and more importantly was available on weekends and holidays.

(I know there are other reasons many of us stay at the Fort besides just being on Disney property, but I'll bet a good number of weekenders wouldn't mind a big paved lot if it was inexpensive enough or the only thing available)

But forget Value resorts or CG's. To your point about where Disney sees the greater profit, lets go the other way.  I wonder how much they could charge for a fully themed Fort-style CG with huge private pull-throughs and amenities galore.  And again, it would be available for those important weekends and holidays....... if you were willing to pay the price of course.........!

Disney is clearly OK with building small numbers of high-dollar accommodations, and we all know there are RVers that would pony up as much as a bungalow costs if it was convenient for them.

    Supply and demand after all.

Or, put another way, how much will prices at the Fort have to go up to until there are sites open on weekends and holidays?

Or, .....I hate to say it .....how long before Disney pursues that thinking to it's logical end and puts another big BLT DVC where The Fort used to be??   :cantbelieveit:
