  1. That's another good way to go from New England. Newburgh Bridge instead of the TappenZee, further from the big cities, and even fewer tolls. It is a little bit longer going thru Scranton on 84 to 81 instead of taking Rt 78 to 81, but a lot less chance of heavy traffic. You also completely miss NJ, which is good, but I think I remember a couple of big climbs and drops along the NY border? I think I'll go this way again on the next trip.
  2. Which is why Disney is willing to abandon tradition. The profit margin on drinks is too good for them to pass up any longer. Walt's dream of a clean, affordable place for families to come and be entertained together is starting to be subsumed by the dream of corporate profits. Is their target audience even families and children anymore, or has it become strictly adults with thick wallets? Don't get me wrong, I like to have a beer or glass of wine with my meal, but I don't NEED it, and I always appreciated that the MK was alcohol-free.
  3. That's it. Right across the street from Hotel Plaza Blvd entrance. It's very convenient to anyone using that entrance to Disney. When you are sitting in the traffic at those lights you can't help but see and even smell the restaurants right there. I can see why Disney would be in favor of building a ramp that would bring traffic directly from I-4 to Disney Springs. If that happens, it won't matter where the businesses relocate to, most people will take the new ramp and never even touch 535. And you're right about Goodings, the last time we were in there I was struck by how shabby
  4. You guys may be right, and it may be a deliberate ploy by Disney, but don't assume that just because Disney has money to hire good IT people that they actually did... Look at what they are doing to some of their units in CA, hiring lower paid worker bees and forcing the existing workers to train their own replacements. And having lots of money to throw at something also doesn't guarantee good results. How much money was spent on the Healthcare.gov website?
  5. So there is the answer to why you can't have access to the form until March. Cute. Very Cute. This is just begging for a lawsuit. But first I would call the NC AG's office and tell them this is unacceptable and ask them what they are going to do about it. If they give you some BS about the "Letter of the Law" I would remind them of the Spirit of the Law and tell them your Attorney is thinking Class Action..... I would also call the Governors Office and your State Rep and Senator, especially if they had anything to do with the original 14 day limit, and ask them what they th
  6. Wow, talk about jumping thru hoops.... I dislike criticizing other Police Depts but there are several ways this so-called "crisis" could be handled besides budget increases. If they are truly this backed up then a good admin would temporarily transfer more people in to that unit to handle the backlog. They could also streamline the paperwork, and schedule the steps together instead of stringing them out. A background check can be done in just a few minutes. It's done in gun shops all over the country every day. If I pull a car over I can have the drivers MV, Criminal, and Gun record
  7. Sadly, bhall is right, FFL Dealers have to take into account your home address. As a cop, I tend to see things from a street-side point of view and I don't want you to get into trouble by trying to skirt the Federal gun regs. He is also correct that it's almost always easier to buy a long gun than a handgun. There are States that don't require any gun permit at all, like Vermont, but unless you want to move, that doesn't help you. You could research the laws on private sales or transfers within your State, each State is different on whats allowed (and what's actually enforced, the maze
  8. That's ridiculous and you are right it is blatant discrimination, it's just another way to make life difficult for gun owners. There are numerous court cases regarding the difference between "May Issue" and "Shall Issue" and this is the Sheriffs way to try and control the process in spite of the law. My guess is that if you were a friend and/or a campaign contributor that your name would suddenly be moved way up the list when there was a "cancellation".... Do I sound cynical? LOL That's because I have seen corruption and cronyism pop-up in so many places Up here in Mass it is the same p
  9. My favorite quote from the article: "....That brings us to late 2016. You might think to yourself that we’re dealing with the classic “frog in boiling water” scenario, where the frog doesn’t recognize until too late that it’s in water which is too hot. The upsell offerings are coming so fast and furious now, it’s possible more and more people are realizing the water is bubbling around them!..."
  10. Correct. No tunnels, No cities except Richmond, No bridges except for the TeeZee, and as a bonus almost no tolls You will notice a lot of truck traffic (and RV's) on 81 but it's still a lot better than 95. For those parts of 95 you do travel on there are some good places to find travel info This one is great and has an app for your phone too http://www.i95exitguide.com/traffic/ And if you have some time on your trip you should check: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/
  11. I will also echo the above great advice: Whichever one you settle on, make sure you get very familiar with it. Practice practice practice. Chances are that if and when you need it, it will be under very stressful and awful conditions. It could be dark, raining, cold, people screaming, loud noises, etc etc. You want to be comfortable getting to it, using it and reloading it under all conditions. The more you practice, the more comfortable and safer you will be. I have been blessed to have had some of the best training available, and even after years of drills I will still occasionally fu
  12. It's not complicated, when rules are seen as not being applied equally and fairly to all guests then respect for all of the rules goes out the window. If the new Manager is truly interested in making things better, the first thing they should do is to get serious about the rule-breakers. Start asking people to leave if they refuse to comply with the rules and start banning people and/or groups after 2 or 3 warnings. It's ridiculous that the same groups come back year after year doing the same things and with no consequences. If someone has received the same warning more than once,
  13. I'll repeat what others have said, stay away from the GWB.... We once came back late at night and thought that it would be Ok taking the shorter route, HA! Came to a stop in all-night construction within sight of the bridge, three hours later we finally got to the toll-booth where I proceeded to give the guy a piece of my mind. (Why they don't wave traffic thru when it's backed up like that I'll never know. but I do know they still wanted 50 something dollars! ) Anyway, leaving SE Mass, I have settled on the following: CT Turnpike (95) to 287 across the TappenZee to 78 thru Penn. The
  14. Too bad you guys missed seeing it, it's actually not half bad and it's a real shame that Disney didn't promote it more. If you get a chance to rent it you should, it has a couple of catchy tunes.....
  15. I like Marty's idea of the porch rockers while you scope out the two loops. You could even leave them at POP or at a Park while you make a quick trip to the Fort. Also, it has been suggested here before that if you need to dump your tanks when you leave, you could find an empty site with a sewer, back in, dump, then leave. IIRC some here have been told to do just that by Fort CM's. Of course if you ask 3 CM's you'll get 3 answers, but I can't see why that would be a problem. I am sure you'll have a great time on both your trips in spite of any small problems you might run i
  16. I had always thought that it was a bigger portion of total park visitors that stayed on property. Say maybe 50 percent? I had an idea that of the other 50 percent that maybe 20 percent or so were locals or day-trippers, leaving 30 percent or so as staying locally. I have no idea where I got those figures, if you are right then they are way off.... One thing is for sure, if Disney builds a new resort close to 100 percent of its guests will be going to one of the parks. If a non Disney resort is built off-property it would be a lesser percentage, but how much I am not sure. Maybe a m
  17. Very neat! I also wonder what the noise factor will be. And what kind of wind they can still fly in. It must be very impressive at the launch site seeing all those drones taking off and landing. It will be interesting to see how this tech keeps getting better, this is just the first attempt, wait until they combine them with lasers, etc.
  18. No reason why you couldn't take the boat or bus over, then the internal bus to the two loops, then walk the loops with a notebook and camera. If you need to drive they'll probably ask you to park and take the internal bus. You could make a reservation at TE to get thru the gate, or just tell the guard what you're doing and they might say it's OK to drive the loops.
  19. Thanks Carol, I figured something had happened when I didn't see any. In the past I usually saw 2 or 3 of the trucks washing RV's in the Fort. Sounds like a good compromise to allow them in the parking lot. That kind of common sense is unusual for Disney. LOL Too bad they don't extend the same compromise for Golf Cart rentals....
  20. They used to allow mobile RV cleaners into the Fort but I didn't see any the last trip and I seem to remember a thread here awhile back that Disney was not going to allow them anymore.... If they are still allowed you could pay to have it done for you, possibly even while you are at the Parks
  21. TCD is probably the resident expert on having a Pop-Up on the 1500 and 2000 loops. If anyone can recommend sites that will meet your needs, he can. Also there are Google Earth files that show each site on each loop which you can use to at least get an idea of which ones will work for you. During your trial trip you could also hop over to the Fort to see the sites in person if you have the time.
  22. You're right Roberta, and most of us here would do the same as you because we are mostly decent people who have consideration for others. Disney and the Fort have a tendency of acting on little violations, usually by people who are otherwise considerate, and then overlooking the big violations by those who have little or no consideration for others.
  23. You're right of course. I had a momentary bout of common sense....
  24. Did they at least add any extra seating outside for the additional Take-Out customers that normally would have been sitting inside for lunch?
  25. So how does extending actually work at the Fort? Can you just stay and pay for extra nights anytime you want? What if I have a check-out date the day before Halloween or Christmas and I just stay? Will they come and evict me? Or to avoid a scene just add the extra night(s) on to my bill? My guess is that like all things Disney and the Fort, there is no set answer, nor is there consistent enforcement of their own rules. I get that there has to be some slack for emergencies but if this is general policy then aren't they again allowing some to inconvenience others with no consequences whi
