  1. Good points. And if the Fort was bigger it wouldn't be as much of an issue. (although the overcrowded ones would still be) I think most of us are tired of having reservations be such a pain in the you-know-what. And a lot of us don't appreciate someone scamming the system. Having said that, you are correct that Disney could turn this to their advantage. As I said earlier it would take just a little creative thinking on their part. I see a career at Disney in your future Travisma! It's a little different with the Phantom Campers, they generally will check
  2. Sounds like a good job for a Fiend-on-the-Scene to try and get a picture..... We saw a couple of little ones in the canal behind the 800-900 loops on on one of our trips.
  3. You were typing while I was Shannon LOL And I agree with your idea too. Like so many things, a little thought followed by a little effort on the part of the Fort Management would make this problem and others practically vanish overnight
  4. As far as the Phantom Campers, I don't agree that we have to accept that. There are two things driving the Phantom Camper problem: 1. Booking a site at the Fort is (usually) cheaper than any other room option on Disney property. And like all on-property "rooms", a campsite comes with all the perks. 2. Unlike hotel rooms, A campsite allows you to get those perks for up to 10 unrelated people. Combine those two and you get why they do it. It is the cheapest way per-person to get Disney On-property perks for your Off-property group. I believe that with a little thought, you co
  5. I can see the appeal, but the one TCD saw doesn't appear to have any legs or support other than the two cables. I wonder what the weight/people capacity is?
  6. Good photos Mo! I assume the next step is to sneak over at night, hitch up and slip away with one of them? Doesn't look like they would miss just one....
  7. Glad to hear your Pixie Dust Levels have been improved. We all need a break now and then to remember whats important in life. Also good to hear about the New Year resolution. I had hip surgery last year and it took awhile but I finally did my first post-surgery 5k just last month. I had to learn how to run all over again but on the front parts of my feet instead of the heels so that I minimize the road-shock going up the leg to the knees and hips. It sucks to get old......
  8. Good question! And Beckers is right, someone in their corporate think-tank got a raise for this.... LOL
  9. Yes, that's the one, posted over at the ILCAFW page. There was also a mini-debate on whether these old cabins would be used as WL DVC cabins. It was pointed out that anyone that can afford the prices of the new WL DVC units will NOT be staying in 20 year old cabins leftover from the Fort..... LOL
  10. I think this is the one you are talking about? Looks like we are indeed getting a new camping loop At the very least this tells us that Disney recognizes (at least on some level) the need for new campsites.
  11. My guess is that it will only be the 2100 loop that gets changed. That loop was originally campsites way back when and will be relatively easy to change back. The other cabin loops were built just for cabins. They don't have comfort stations or the RV hookups at each pad like 2100. Plus, as Jason pointed out above, the cabins do still fill up at certain times.
  12. We took our son to WDW for his 3rd and his 4th birthdays, driving from Mass. I will echo the above advice, especially about South of the Border. It's a fun stop for an hour or two, with an observation tower in a Sombrero! and a Reptile Zoo with lots of alligators and turtles. It's also a great stopover, as AldeanFan noted above the campground is not fancy, but it is clean, inexpensive and safe. We also liked to stop at the State Welcome Centers so he could pick out a few brochures to look at while driving. Another big hit was the Petersburg Civil War Battlefield, right near the highway
  13. Here's a video where everything turned out OK, but it came close to being a tragedy..... The RV Doctor was in the right place at the right time. http://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2015/04/04/dnt-fl-rv-fire-rescue.wesh The fire started when their right front tire blew and ignited which quickly cut off the one and only door in this RV. As Doug said above, fridge fires are also somewhat common and that will also cut off the front exit/s.
  14. That's true. I guess I have always looked at it that they raised the prices on the weekends rather than lowered the mid-week price. Does that make me a glass-is-half-empty person? Probably! If Lou is right and there are still tons of sites open mid-week then the price difference/discount isn't filling the "rooms" like it should.
  15. That's great, I can't wait to try a bottle. My guess is that it will taste Ok, but not as good as it could if they would just fix the damn brewery.....
  16. Yes, it does seem as though Disney doesn't see enough demand to build out. I wonder if the Hotel industry in general plans for expansions based on their max demand or their minimum? Or do they average demand for rooms over a time period? And if they have campsite openings so often during the week, why aren't they offering mid-week discounts? I do know enough about hotels that they would rather have a full room than an empty one and they will offer large discounts if that's what it takes to fill the room for the night. Does that apply to campgrounds? Does that apply to Dis
  17. YAY! More campsites is good. Unless you like the cabins, then BOO..... I wish they would just build some more loops and cure the whole issue once and for all. Hey Mo! Where's the old emoticon for "Beating a dead horse"?
  18. HA! Too funny Maybe we shouldn't laugh too soon though!.... I wouldn't be surprised if they put a few along the lake near the BABH where the old cabin next to the old nature trail is. Also welcome and thanks for the Fiend on the scene report Please let us know if they start trucking away any more cabins. If they are gutting them, it could be getting them ready to go, but it could also be getting them ready for new interiors.....
  19. Thanks for the answer. That's too bad, several years ago we took advantage of that old loophole to stay for a little over 2 and a half weeks and got the lower rate of our first day. Since then our stays have been just a week or less each time. I can see them changing the rate for a month long stay by each week, but every day and even the higher weekend rate? It must take awhile to print out the bill! I thought the new reservation system was done to discourage weekenders and encourage longer stays? I really miss the days when you could get a AAA and an AP discount,
  20. Does the rate stay at the rate that applies the first day of the reservation, or do they have to add up each day's rate as it changes over the 30 days? I'm not sure I asked that right, did that make sense? LOL!
  21. HA! That was my first thought too when I heard this. I wonder what Disney will do with them? I could see one in my backyard Of course that's assuming they are actually going to remove them all, I don't think we have gotten any reports besides the one cabin removed so far. keep your eyes on Ebay........
  22. Good point about plenty of smoke detectors. You can't escape from smoke/fire if you don't wake up soon enough. I've seen many burned houses with disconnected or non-working smoke detectors hanging from the ceiling, usually with either no batteries or dead batteries. That's why I start each trip by using the test buttons on each detector. In our's we have detectors front and rear: 2 combo smoke/fire detectors (some detectors alarm with smoke, some alarm with heat), and 2 CO detectors, plus the LP detector. And a good idea when doing a fire drill is to train people in the RV to gra
  23. Same here, our rear window has a big red "Fire Exit" sticker. In an emergency you have to push or kick the window out AFTER pulling a red plastic loop. I've been to many many fatal fire scenes and am a big believer in practice drills and knowing ahead of time where the exits are (even in a restaurant, store, movies, etc.) I've seen many times where someone was killed just a few feet away from a door or window, or even just inside a window because smoke got them before they could exit. Fires in RV's move fast and seconds count. So good for you Doug and keep practicing. As a
  24. And they would know since they would have to clear most of their supplies out of the old comfort station. Are you at the Fort now? Have you seen any moves toward fixing up the CS? I'm assuming they would need to do the same renovation to it as the others to bring it up to standards, (maybe I shouldn't assume things where the Fort is concerned... )
  25. If I remember correctly the 2100 loop is the only cabin loop that was originally a camping loop, including it's own comfort station, now being used by mousekeeping. I agree, the spiffy new tables and grills are nice but not really worth the price difference, especially for longer stays. The sand/shells also don't bother us at all, but I agree it would be nice to have some more room on the sides of the pads. I also like the extra bits they added to the front to make it easier to back in and pull out.
