Travisma 1,317 Posted March 21, 2015 Report Share Posted March 21, 2015 Semi camping question, more about long term home usage.What is the best mosquito deterrent you have found for an entire yard, as opposed to personal sprays or that Off clip on fan.Since it's hot here already the Mosquitos are on their way, and I'm looking for something that allows me to use my yard after dusk.We have tried the soda bottle trap, the listerine, Epsom salt spray. They put 2 or 3 around the property and catch a ton of mosquitos w/ them. Downside is they are semi-pricey for the good ones, and they require emptying the traps and keeping the propane bottles from running out. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I saw an article that they are good, but they aren't as effective if there are other insects to eat.Same with Purple Martins.I researched last night for solutions.For gatherings on a patio or deck, they said an oscillating fan is the best. Skeeters can't fight the wind.Some said garlic spray, others said it doesn't work. Same with other home remedies.There's a professional strength garlic spray that costs $30 a quart and is good for 2 applications.I wouldn't mind spending the $$ if I knew it would be effective.That seems to be the problem. For every one person saying something works great, another says it's worthless.That's why I figured Fiends with all of their time spent outside would be the best experts. I guess I could just cook more Italian favorites. I know it was early in the season, but we didn't have any issues with bugs last week at all.
