Two new ways for guests of Walt Disney World Resort hotels to live like their favorite Disney characters are now on sale. Opening in early Spring 2012, the Royal Guest Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside allow princes and princesses of all ages to stay where Disney royalty have stayed. The 512 Royal Guest Rooms start at $189 per night.

Walt Disney World guests also can now book rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, a brand new Walt Disney World Value Resort opening in early Summer 2012. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will immerse guests into their favorite Disney stories – including Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Nemo” and “Cars,” as well as Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Lion King” and “The Little Mermaid.”

The one-of-a-kind resort will feature more than 800 standard guest rooms and more than 1,100 family suites (which sleep up to six people) at its completion. Standard rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort start at $94 per night and family suites start at $248 per night.

From the Daily Disney...

First rooms in new Disney hotel to open May 31

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/the-daily-disney/osvideo-disneys-arts-of-animation-resort-20111010,0,2308556.premiumvideo

By Jason Garcia, Orlando Sentinel

The first of four phases in Walt Disney World's newest hotel will open May 31, the company said Monday.

The giant resort began taking reservations in Disney's Art of Animation Resort in June, though company officials say it is too early to glean anything from the pace of bookings.

"But, certainly, there is a passion that's out there," said Kevin Myers, vice president of resort operations for Disney World.

The first phase of the hotel to open will be a Finding Nemo-themed wing of family suites that will include a pool that, at roughly 12,000 square feet, will be the largest swimming pool at any of Disney World's two dozen hotels and time-share resorts.

The Nemo suites will be followed by Cars-themed suites at the end of July, Lion King-themed suites at the end of September and, lastly, a wing of Little Mermaid-themed, conventional hotel rooms by the end of 2012.

Altogether, Disney's Art of Animation Resort will have 1,120 "family suites" — three-room units that are cheaper than traditional, high-end hotel suites — and 864 standard rooms. It will be priced as a "value" hotel, the cheapest of Disney's three hotel categories, with rates beginning at $94 per night for the conventional rooms and $248 a night for the suites.

"This continues…the diversification of our product," said Myers, adding that Disney has seen growing hotel demand from large, multigenerational families. "We're seeing more and more of that — guests requesting connecting rooms, that sort of thing."

Disney said its newest hotel will also include improved amenities when compared to the resort's existing value hotels, including a more-diverse dining area with possibilities such as fresh-fruit smoothies and Mongolian barbecue.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort Will Open in Phases Starting May 31

posted on October 10th, 2011 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Let the vacation planning begin!

Earlier today, leaders from the Walt Disney World Resort and Walt Disney Imagineering announced the projected opening dates for Walt Disney World’s new Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, which will debut in phases beginning May 31, 2012.

Located near Disney’s Pop Century Resort, the new resort will offer 1,120 family suites (including a bedroom and living room) themed after “The Lion King,” “Cars” and “Finding Nemo” animated films, as well as 864 guest rooms inspired by “The Little Mermaid.” The current opening timetable has the “Finding Nemo” wing opening May 31, the “Cars” wing in late July, and “The Lion King” wing in late September. The final wing, themed after “The Little Mermaid,” will debut in late 2012.

Although the resort is still several months away from opening, it’s already set to break records by planning the largest swimming pool at the Walt Disney World Resort (aside from our water parks). This pool will be located in the “Finding Nemo” wing, and will measure 11,859 square feet. The resort also will feature two other pools and a children’s water play area.

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will be a “value” category of lodging, with nightly rates similar to Disney’s All-Star Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort.

Disney Releases New Information on Upcoming Art of Animation Resort

Posted on October 10, 2011

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Oct. 10, 2011 – The first wing of the new Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will open to Guests on May 31, 2012, as construction on the 25th resort hotel at Walt Disney World continues on schedule.

Art-of-Animation1.jpg

In size and scope, the construction of Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is a major project at Walt Disney World Resort and has created up to 800 construction jobs. Once open in 2012, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will also create 750 ongoing resort hotel jobs.

At a media gathering today, Walt Disney Imagineering and Walt Disney World Resort Operations released images of new icons arriving at the resort this fall and shared some of the details Guests will see when Disney’s Art of Animation opens next year. For example, Guests exploring The Lion King courtyard will see characters from the film, such as the hyenas and the evil Scar, through the eyes of Simba and in the same size and scale as the young cub would experience them.

“Here at Disney, we are in the Guest experience business,” said Kevin Myers, vice president of resort operations for Walt Disney World Resort. “When we develop a new resort hotel, we draw on Guest feedback about our parks, entertainment, special events and every aspect of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts to provide a resort hotel experience that only Disney can deliver.”

Examples of enhancements based on Guest feedback will be evident at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort in the food-and-beverage and recreation offerings. The dining area will feature items such as fresh smoothies, hand-scooped gelato and Mongolian barbecue. The resort also will feature the largest swimming pool outside of Disney’s water parks, as well as an extensive children’s water play area at the larger-than-life icons for the Finding Nemo wings of the resort.

Located adjacent to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, the new resort will include 1,120 family suites in The Lion King, Cars and Finding Nemo wings, and 864 themed rooms in The Little Mermaid wings. Suites will feature both a living room and bedroom, offering added space for families.

The family suites and rooms at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will fit into the “value” category of lodging, with nightly rates similar to Disney’s All-Star Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort.

The phased opening of the resort will begin when the Finding Nemo wing opens May 31, 2012. Next, the Cars wing of the resort will open near the end of July. The Lion King suites will open a short time later in September, and The Little Mermaid value rooms will open by the end of next year.

Some fun facts about Disney’s Art of Animation Resort -

• With an area of 11,859 square feet, the feature pool at the Finding Nemo wing of the resort will be the largest swimming pool at Walt Disney World Resort outside of the water parks.

• The new resort hotel will feature 9,400 doors, which if stacked flat would be taller than the Empire State Building.

• The 227,000 lineal feet of carpet being used on the project would be enough carpet to stretch from Orlando to the Kennedy Space Center in Titusville.

Looks nice but you have less sleeping accomodations then if you booked 2 rooms, to some that might matter. I think we will stick with our 5th wheel or use our DVC for our trips. I am sure the kids will love feeling like they are part of the show which is what Disney is going for.

The traffic lights are up, the street has been widened at the entrance to the resort, the landscaping is coming along nicely, the support structure for the Art of Animation sign is up, but more importantly the entry street has a sign and a name, "Animation Way". Won't be long now.

New Pictures and Press Release Offer a Look Inside Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — To kick off the summer vacation season, Walt Disney World Resort will open the doors to its newest resort hotel with Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, a value property consisting primarily of family suites that immerse guests into the magical worlds of classic Disney and Disney•Pixar films.

Opening in phases, each of the four wings celebrates rich storytelling, spirited characters and playfulness with colorful icons and whimsical theming inspired by each beloved film depicted. Three family suite wings will showcase Finding Nemo, Cars and The Lion King, with elaborate storytelling both inside and out. Standard guest rooms make up The Little Mermaid wing, the final phase to open.

0627ZZ_0693KP-800x532.jpg

The three-story resort will immediately put guests into the worlds of favorite Disney characters and animated films beginning at check-in as pixilated patterns and wavy ribbons of color decorate the resort’s exterior. Pencil drawings of Ariel, Lightning McQueen, Nemo and Simba adorn the entryway, and a cleverly created chandelier composed of animation storyboards enhance the lively and modern lobby.

“Our goal is to make guests feel like they have been immersed in the artistry and enchantment of Walt Disney and Disney•Pixar animated classics,” said Walt Disney Imagineer Frank Paris.

Giant sketchbooks filled with favorite characters seem to come to life as they pave the way to each storyline revealed. Scenic settings, icons—including a brightly-colored coral landscape, a 35-foot-tall model of King Triton, a towering Mufasa and more—immerse guests into the playful world of animation. At the Cars wing, a freshly paved road leads to the Cozy Cone Motel complete with a Cozy Cone pool and cone-shaped cabanas. It’s a journey through an African landscape in The Lion King complete with an elephant graveyard play area that invites youngsters to seek hakuna matatatime. Treasures from the human world fill Ariel’s grotto in an under the sea kingdom in Little Mermaid courtyard.

From linens and carpeting to fixtures and furniture, all details of the guestroom tie to the storyline. In Finding Nemo, there’s coral-shaped chairs and bubble ceiling lights; Zazu takes center stage on the headboards in The Lion King, while Pumbaa and Timon decorate the shower curtain.

Kids of all ages can make a splash at the “Big Blue” pool, the largest resort swimming pool at Walt Disney World Resort measuring 11,859 square feet. Guests enter scenes from the animated world and can explore the colorful reef with a giant-sized Mr. Ray whose wings span 27 feet, pose for a picture with Crush or frolic with Squirt in the Righteous Reef, a children’s play area. An arcade and two additional pools round out the fun.

0628ZZ_1005KP-800x532.jpg

Dining options include a poolside snack bar and pizza delivery. The Landscape of Flavors food court will feature items such as fresh smoothies, hand-scooped gelato and Mongolian barbecue. It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

0628ZZ_1495KP-800x532.jpg

The whimsical property, situated adjacent to Disney’s Pop Century Resort, will open in phases beginning in late May 2012 with rates from $248 per night. The 1,120 family suites include two bathrooms, a kitchenette and three separate sleeping areas that can sleep up to six. Some 864 standard rooms sleep up to four. Rates as low as $94 include complimentary transportation, Extra Magic Hours and other benefits available to a Disney Resort guest.

Eh, never mind, went back and looked at my pictures from across the lake. There are definitely 4 floors of windows on the new buildings. (Unless the top floor is just facade to make the building heights equal).

Boy if the new buildings were only 3 floors, that would really lower the capacity of this resort and make it a very pleasant experience over there.

for those rates you should get a little something, I agree that is not a value priced resort as I had read on the Disney website, the rooms do look cool and fun but not that fun.
