Never heard of this before but there was a plan for an attraction at the Fort called the Adventure House. 
"...WDP saw the possibility to add an extra day to the vacations of visitors, a major concern through the 70s and 80s and something that the Lake Buena Vista complex was only halfway successful at doing. They were looking for ideas, and at some point, Marc Davis began suggesting them. His idea was to build a fun house."

In the first big battle scene, they are going to dock the boats next to each other, and the pirates are going to be exchanging bouquets and Kungaloosh recipes instead of firing cannons!
And instead of the Jolly Roger, they will have flags with Happy Unicorns on them.

I fail to see how arming the redhead with a rifle is more PC.  It makes me uncomfortable.  I propose Disney replace all weapons, including the cannons in the ships, with rainbow flags.

If they don't stop at the 2100 loop I may be a dissenter and say "BOO." My family stays at the 2200 cabins because it's right by the bus stop so it's easier for our blind son to get around. That's where the pic came for my avatar. :-)

Anyone remember when you could buy cap guns at the Pirates ride? They shot little cork balls. And they sold little cannon replicas.
 
I have a pair of flintlock pistols from the 1700's but I'd really like my old Pirate cap guns back!

Yes, I was the Dad. I made them go back to the Fort and take a nap. Three hours later we were back at the Magic Kingdom. 

i found a video over on retrodisneyworld.com from 1980 with some Discovery Island footage about 25 minutes in. There's also some footage of the Jungle Cruise. I forgot the skippers would shoot at the hippos!

Great pics. I'm always amazed at how short the trees are in the old photos. The park felt more open that way.
