  1. I have only been out to Lake Whitney once and we atleast drove through some sort of "country club neighborhood" to get to our site by the lake but I can't remember the name of it. We really liked it there! There is also an RV park near by where you can buy a deeded RV lot and put up a small villa. Down side is, we are about 4 hours from Whitney and only about 45 minutes from Canyon Lake...so we are more likely to go there. Although as it turns out, I'm not really sure we are lake people. Like you, my main concern with purchasing a membership at all is the distance to any of the TT parks. The
  2. We'd want to stay until after the new year, so we might have trouble...and we are still hoping to luck into a FW site when it gets close to time when people lose their deposits. We have also looked into renting a house or condo for the holidays. I just hate to be off property. This is me right now... :gaah: :gaah: :gaah:
  3. And you guys have MONSTER traffic. San Antonio is spoiled when it comes to traffic.
  4. Wow, this is REALLY good to know. They are not really forthcoming with restrictions or how far out you can reserve. The whole point would be that for what it costs to get a site at Christmas, I could pay for zone pass for a year. But if I can't even get in at Christmas, I'm not sure why I would do it. Our biggest "problem" is that Texas is do dang big and we live right smack in the middle, so it is really a 5-8 hour drive to just get out of the darn state! It really limits weekend getaways.
  5. Thanks so much! We were looking a the southeast zone pass because we live in Texas and enjoy the Lake Whitney area (which has a Thousand Trails Resort), and of course Disney is in the area too. We have a 10 year old daughter in school, so we don't really camp for longer than 6 days at a time, and that is alway during busy holiday times. Hadn't thought of looking into a used membership --- will to that for sure. My hesitation is that I know how we are and aren't likely to stay outside the Fort unless we have no other choice. If we buy the membership with the idea that we will go this Christm
  6. Any Thousand Trails members out there? We are considering a membership but was looking for some pros & cons. I can't really imagine not staying at the Fort when it's available - but the membership would pay for its self if we stayed at Thousand Trails after Christmas....dilemmas, dilemmas!
  7. Another fine idea! I'm glad I asked before doing something else...these ideas are way cuter then what I was thinking :jumpforjoy
  8. That is a great idea! I wonder if I could attach stakes to the branches to make them easy to sink?
  9. I taped the picture and the graphite paper down and just basically drew over mickey with a pencil. When you take the whole thing off you have a great outline to follow! Besides the graphite paper, the next thing that made it easy for a non-painter was using the paint pen to outline. The hardest part is getting straight lines with a paint bush; so, I outlined in black, painted, then outlined in paint pen again. That took away all the "oops" moments from the brush painting. The whole project only cost about $20. I bought the pre-fab pine wood round at Lowe's for $10. Graphite paper was $2.99
  10. I am creating what basically amounts to a paint-by-number camp sign for our next trip to the fort! I used graphite paper to trace the mickey, outlined with a paint pen, and filled it in with some acrylic paint. I traced the letters and filled them in too! Will add our name to the bottom and maybe our own little hidden mickey! Can't draw. Can't paint. But I love it!!
  11. I talked to my AAA agent last week to get a quote for Spring Break. She said they were "currently negotiating discounts for the 2015 year." I don't really know what that means - is she putting me off? Perhaps. She did say she would get back to me WHEN she got the discounted rate availability, so she seems to be expecting some some sort of discounting to continue. Will keep ya'll posted if I hear from her!
  12. AAAAND....they have them online at K-mart and Sears, but they aren't so deeply discounted. $18.99 each.
  13. Those are so cute! We don't have K-Marts in San Antonio....will have to check the web...love them!
  14. Thanks for the warm welcome Ken! I was so happy to find other Disney/Fort Wilderness fanatics! We are looking forward to meeting some of the Fiends in person! Husband and I were just talking about making sure we ordered a sign before our trip out in November. I am also working on a wooden sign that I am using my limited skill to paint Musket Mickey on...our campsite was to bare last time!
  15. 'Tis the helmet, I tell you, the helmet! One too many mornings waking up with helmet shaped hair and The Vader said, "enough! Be gone you wretched locks, be gone!" THEN he was a baldy.
  16. 10-year-old daughter who is in school...SO, while I am the parent that pulls her kid out for a week in May before school is out to hit the Fort, I figure I can't get away with it more then once a year. Based on her school calendar, we can come at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break, and the blazing hot summer. Don't you hate when you kid's education disrupts your interaction with Mickey Mouse?? :monocle: (I don't even know what this emoji is doing - - - is he a pirate?)
  17. Limit? What is this limit you speak of? I acknowledge no limits when it comes to disneyworld....much to the dismay of may bank account.
  18. I thought the same thing...especially with the "sung conversations". In addition to being a big disney nerd, also enjoy the heck out of Broadway...So this will be amazing!
  19. I mean, if I'm being totally honest with myself (as a fellow crazy person), it's not like I would deceide to stay home because of the crowds. :nahnah:
  20. FROZEN is coming to broadway! http://www.broadway.com/buzz/174011/dreams-do-come-true-disney-confirms-broadway-plans-for-hit-movie-frozen/ I. CAN'T. WAIT. :studsmatta-smiley: :studsmatta-smiley: :studsmatta-smiley:
  21. I checked out the crowd calendars and it looks like we might actually be really lucky - - - our spring break seems super early in the season. Yeah me! :rollercoaster: :rollercoaster: :rollercoaster:
  22. We are considering a trip out to the Fort at Spring Break and I am curious (I probably already know the answer), how much of a crazy nut house are the parks and the fort? Is it like summer break or Christmas Holidays? How far ahead to you have to book?
