Runner's years long trip to The Dopey ... and beyond!
Roller ... aka Ed replied to Roller ... aka Ed's topic in Trip Reports
The Marine Corps Marathon and Achilles International Freedom Team is going to be a blast! http://tothedopeyandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014/06/things-are-looking-up.html $200 to fly; free entry into the Marathon; 4 nights at the Holiday Inn within walking distance of the Starting Line covered; ... all I have left to cover is my food. On top of that, I've got my handcycle tweaked a LOT. Once the final chainring is in and everything is installed and tweaked, I should be flying on my races -

It isn't a matter of fitting me to the bike they purchased ... it's a matter of the bike they purchased not being adaptable enough to fit me. There isn't a model that will ... unless you start talking a LOT of $$. There ARE ways to adapt the current chair - but that takes about $500. With everything going on, that is $500 I don't have right now. I spent $52 getting it to the point it is definitely usable - just not at maximum efficiency. The other items are just wishful thinking for me - right now. I would like real competition wheels and tires; I would like the SRAM DD3-30; I would like t -

Runner's years long trip to The Dopey ... and beyond!

An update on my MCM Team Achilles spot - not only are they giving me a spot in the Marine Corps Marathon ... they are covering the registration fees AND providing accommodations at the Team Hotel! All I have to do is pay my way there and back! Maybe I'm not a total Idiot ... I DID join Team Achilles, after all. -
Marathon Week
Roller ... aka Ed replied to Roller ... aka Ed's topic in Racing Forum for 10K, 5K, etc. running events
Yes, There was a Runners World Challenge. It's entry to The Dopey along with entry to the various additional $ events like the Pasta Parties, pre-race half and full breakfast (what a joke), and limited access porta pottys before the race ... only $999. If you give a s care about the additional garbage items, then you save a few $. MK does open at 5:30 - for the Half and Full Marathons. Get there early because there are a lot of people trying to get in. If you want a limited access viewing area, you have to pay for it - Gold ($85) or Platinum ($180) ChEAR Squad membership. (You can save a lit -

Yes, That is just the races (and shirts and medals and water/power-ade and gummi bears and chocolate, etc on the courses) ; No accommodations or meals; and it's full. Last year full was 16,000 registrants. -

runDisney is a major cash cow - they charge crazy high prices to register; charge extra for resorts during race weeks; sell race related merchandise at high even for Disney prices; ... During Marathon Week, they have over 50,000 people in the races. Figure in family and support staff, and there's probably 250,000+ people during that time frame staying on property or nearby. -

runDisney races sell out that fast - so do a lot of the more popular races such as the Marine Corps Marathon, NYC Marathon, Chicago Marathon, Boston Marathon ... I have seen runDisney races sell out in a matter of minutes! Last year, they allowed early registration for the Dumbo Double Dare (Disneyland 10K and Half Marathon) during the WDW Marathon Week - when it opened for general registration, it sold out the remaining spots in less than 10 minutes. Any time there is a new race - or an anniversary like the Goofy in 2015 - it sells out almost immediately ... with the others not far behind. -

Remember me saying that runDisney races fill up fast? The 5K, 10K, Goofy and Dopey are FULL! Registration opened at noon ... and the half (85%) and full (50%) marathons are all that are still open! -

http://tothedopeyandbeyond.blogspot.com/2014/04/woohoo.html MY handcycle is in - I pick it up tomorrow! -
Just before you start your trip, add one cap full of laundry detergent in one gallon of hot water to the holding tank (repeat once or twice - 2 or 3 gallons total); add 1 cup bleach; add borax/calgon/water softener of choice to another gallon of hot water and add to holding tank. Driving will slosh this around and help clean the tank. Then flush out as Dave suggested. Now you start the enzyme and flush treatment you decide on.
