  1. Interesting... so if I take a preferred campsite value price and punch that into the CPI calculator, today's rate is $75.85 before tax. Price today for value rate during the week for preferred is $75 before tax.
  2. Hmm... maybe we caught the Orange bus instead of the purple from 2000 and that was the difference. We'll have to remember about using the footbridge. We did that once and weren't really sure the distance.
  3. I'll chime in here since we stayed in both 1500 and 2000 on our last trip in November. We preferred 1500 due to it being more convenient to the Meadow rec area, and there's only three bus stops to the boat launch from there. The 2000 loop on the other hand, seemed like it was miles from everything and we were on bike when we weren't driving. We probably should have cut through the 900 loop but didn't know any better at the time. The bus is a pain from there now... I know it used to go all the way around past the group camping area to the back, however they would stop at 2000, pick up passenger
  4. Okay, I thought maybe I was missing something, lol... yeah, I was referring to removing rather than relocating the weight near the tongue. In our case, the wheels are set back fairly far on the camper, so it would probably be a reduction of somewhat less than 2:1. I have read that moving the battery to the back bumper is completely legal to do, but can be bad for the health of the battery since it would be a jouncy ride back there. I'm not tempted to put the battery in the camper due to the venting issue (and potential for leakage), plus there's not really a good place to do this midships or
  5. I did almost the exact same thing to my eye replacing brakes on my in-laws car. I was tugging on a spring on the parking brake shoes with a pair of pliers when they slipped off and sliced open my eyebrow just above my eye. Lesson learned? Wear safety goggles no matter how safe a repair you think it is. However, I will say that in my experience having other people do the work, while less the work is sometimes not completed to my satisfaction. Case in point the last oil change on my car at the dealer. As much or slightly cheaper than what I could do it for, but their service took three times l
  6. Yeah, dry weight is supposed to be 3600lbs, GVWR is 4400. Really? This seems counterintuitive.
  7. I would agree that it wouldn't be a problem on a truck, but our Acadia's max tongue is 600lbs. With careful loading I can get it there, but I'd like more margin.
  8. Oh, we'll definitely have a battery of some type. The appeal to this solution of course is that the breakaway batteries are 5lbs vs the 50 lbs of the real deal. I could probably save 70 pounds or so by downsizing the battery and LP bottle.
  9. I had thought that too... they are still fairly light so that might be an option as well.
  10. Hey guys: We have a Jayco X18D. We love the camper, but one thing I don't love about it is the tongue weight. Unladen, but with all the equipment the tongue weight is in excess of 600lbs (this despite the manufacturers 390lb advertised weight). In general I load heavy as far back in the camper as I can to counter balance this, which breaks the general rule of thumb of loading toward the front, but the trailer is so front heavy we've never had stability issues doing this in all the typical sway conditions you might experience. Still, I'd like a little more flexibility in loading the camper, s
  11. I have heard in general that they are a money pit... maybe later are better, but I'd be very wary about it because it carries the VW badge. My philosophy on tow vehicles is that you should pick a high volume seller to use.
  12. Understood. Okay, riddle me this then. Can you hedge your bets by making a reservation for a full hookup or better site and downgrade to the partial upon arrival if a suitable spot is available (and pocket the difference)?
  13. I think one major problem with the magic band/FP+ rollout is that the customer satisfaction survey that I took seems to be designed to favor a positive rating for the MagicBand/FastPass+ system. As TCD noted, there's really nothing that the MB does that the old KTTW can't/couldn't do. During our trip we could use them basically interchangeably, so I think it all boils down to software. I do think from a management point of view it is probably useful for park management in order to figure out where crowds are and how many people are in a park at any given time since they can check this with R
  14. Ah! Okay... yeah, that was her. Hopefully we can too. (fingers crossed)
  15. When I still lived at home, we had several large old pine trees in our yard, and you could pretty much count on them to drop limbs during every high wind storm. We had no garage and parked under the trees. When t-storms and hurricanes were approaching, it was SOP to move the cars to an un-treed section of the yard just in case. Plus we had two or three struck by lightning, and also pine bore beetles attacked a group of trees. When that happens, you are pretty much required to clear cut any pine within a fairly large radius of the affected one to prevent their spread, and they will kill trees i
  16. Thanks for the invite... I think my wife got an invite from somebody and we've been mulling it over. We have another camp the first weekend of March at Cloudland Canyon for our daughter's joint b-day party, so we're not sure we'd be ready to roll out again so soon after a camp. It'd be different probably if we hadn't just filled three teeth (and about to do a fourth) and bought a set of tires for our tow vehicle! February has been pricey. We may just throw down and go anyway.
  17. Thanks! You might remember running into us at Monte Sano SP last year. We were 1 or 2 sites down from you with the two little girls.
  18. Oh yeah, and as far as any hotel expansion in 2001 is concerned... remember that is when the dot-com bubble burst, so it's not too surprising that they would table a big project like that. And yet, here we've got a four seasons now in that same general vicinity.
  19. Here's my concern about the River Country DVC: A. Ft Wilderness property is prime real estate used for cheap rental income. B. River Country is an unused derelict area they can reclaim, and it's outside of the area apparently designated wetland or otherwise protected, so it's fair game. Most other parts around Bay Lake are off limits it seems like, so to get another MK circuit property requires shoehorning onto existing resort property. C. If RC DVC becomes popular enough, the conspiracy theorist in me can see Disney deciding to price the campground much higher than it already is (or at an a
  20. Hey guys... just wondering if it's a no-no to put a hybrid travel trailer on a partial site. Ours isn't much bigger than some of the 12' box tent trailers... 18' closed tongue to tail. About 21' or so with 3 bunks. I'm not totally sold on trying to do this but wifey and I both liked the 1500 loop last time we were there. The 2000 loop is a no-go for us though. Unfortunately we had to move halfway through our stay because a group was monopolizing the 1500 loop partway through. The first few days we were there we pretty much had the whole loop to ourselves. We weren't crazy about 2000 so I'd be
  21. That's good! We usually do AAA when we book, haven't gotten a discount like that in a couple of years. We book AAA not so much because the discount is fantastic, but rather because you can get the Diamond parking pass, which is nice.
  22. I think M:S was pretty cool the first 5 times I've ridden it, but on the past three trips I've had no pressing desire to ride it again and haven't. Doesn't have staying power for me.
  23. I remembered seeing EO when I was a kid in about 1986 and liked it. I was also 10 years old though. I watched the aforementioned Youtube video before Jennifer and I started going again and decided we should avoid it like the plague. I think Epcot has two issues. First, the "future world" is decidedly un-futuristic (although I do think that the new Test Track is a step in the right direction), and dare I say it is not as educational (while still being loads of fun) as it once was. The other is that more free international trade has made the World Showcase less special. I remember eating Gummy
