  1. This made me chuckle. When we took in Charlie, Abby was about a year old. She wasn't thrilled with the new situation either. In fact, pretty darn quickly she let Charlie know that he was the interloper and she was the boss. She continued to politely ignore him until he died, despite our efforts to get them to play together. But something tells me that Buddy is going to have his hands full with Dobby.
  2. Well, unfortunately, yes. The first time I stepped out in front of a cart. He gently reminded me to watch where I was going. The second time, my husband and I were crossing the street to the 700 loop. He shouted that he had not given us permission to cross. He was joking, of course.
  3. I have been reprimanded by Doug a couple of times, but it was always done with poise and humor. I think he is genuinely concerned with the safety of the guests.
  4. I used my magic band to open the entry gate - after we had checked in, of course. I really enjoyed using the band at the parks; for one reason I never worried about losing my KTTW card. The FP+ worked wonderfully for us, even with the one operator error I committed. Then an kind, understanding CM took pity on me and let us all on the ride. I may be in the minority, but I think the Magic Bands and the MDE app are great.
  5. Well, that was rude! But I guess I deserve that. I'm not a bus-driver groupie, and I'm not going to wait at a bus hub, hoping I get to see one of the drivers. I just thought that if I knew when one of the fiends I had never met was going to be driving, I would look especially closely to see if it was he. I would simply say that I enjoyed reading his posts and that I was pleased to meet him. I would do the same for the photographers, too. I just think it's cool when a new Fiend runs into a CM who happens to post on this board. It somehow makes Disney World seem more homey - a place where
  6. Doggone it, Gwen, is there anything you can't do? Your pictures are fabulous! I felt as if I were right there with you. The Fort pictures are wonderful and your grandchildren are just precious! I am really enjoying this trip report. Keep those pictures and comments coming; I'm along for the ride!
  7. I'm so glad y'all started this topic. I was at the Fort for two weeks (just left today) and I looked very closely at everyone's name tag to see if I could spot any "famous" fiends. I thought I got on Lou's bus once and got excited until I noticed the nametag said John. That poor man looked at me as if I were a reject from the looney bin. Anyway, it will nice to know when everyone's working when we go back in February.
  8. Yesterday I faxed a request for a site in the 700 loop, giving no reason other than we just wanted that site. I figured it would go ignorned since the loop is pretty full, as is most of the Fort, probably. ANYWAY, just now, I got a phone call from the site assigner, Alma, who explained that the site I requested was occupied until the day after we arrive. She said if we would be willing to move sites after one day, then we could have the requested site! Perhaps my cynical side - or my old age - is showing, but I am truly shocked. For us, this is a wonderful display of the kind of magi
  9. Glad you made it safely! If you get a chance to check, is the loop full?
  10. How's your head injury this morning? Have a really safe trip, and we hope to see you at the Fort. We should be arriving on Friday (one week from today - YEA!). and we have requested the 700 loop, too.
  11. This was a fabulous trip report! Every word, every picture, every hilarious comment made me yearn for WDW - and I didn't even have to get out my red pen! If grading essays had been this easy, I would still be teaching.
  12. Maybe it's an Okie thing or something, but we stayed in Hollywood and wanted to go to Laguna Beach - again just to see it. We didn't even get out of LA before we got lost. We wound up in Marina del Ray, which was beautiful but not where we wanted to go. With the help of some lovely locals, we tried again and made it to the beach. Coming home we decided to take the freeway instead of Pacific Coast Highway - big mistake! It was Sunday evening and the traffic was much worse than traffic coming into Houston on Sunday. We changed freeways three times, were delayed by an accident, and final
  13. I followed your directions on a map of the internal roads of WDW that I have. You're right - this looks easy and seems to save time and traffic worries. Thank you so much. I hope everything went well at your doctor's appointment.
  14. Oh, oh, oh! (Waving hand frantically in the air) ME! ME! We really need to know the "back way" into WDW! We come in from the north - I-75. Would this route you have work for us?
  15. We went to the Rose Bowl last year in July when we were on vacation in Los Angeles - only because I wanted to see it. There were no events going on at the time. But, from what we could see, the area surrounding the stadium is a residential area; we saw no hotels within walking distance. Maybe it was because of the route we took, but we all commented on how strange that was. Perhaps you could find a hotel that offered a BCS package - including transportation to the stadium. Trust me, I don't think you want to drive in that traffic on game day. And here's another thought - if you really wa
  16. Thank you so much, devores and Rita, for your suggestions and help in getting my vouchers into MDE. I followed your instructions and just sailed through the ticket linking process. I've chosen our party's fast passes, and now all I need to do is get to the parks! Again, thank you so much! And, Rita, I agree! Those O's and zeroes kept me from linking the vouchers earlier. When I finally figured that out, the process was seamless.
  17. WOW! Thanks so much for those answers. One more question: To scan the bar code I will need the Scanner app? I have it on my phone, along with the MDE app; but I didn't know if the MDE app could be used to scan the voucher. I'm going to work on this tomorrow and I'll let you know if I was successful.
  18. First of all, thank you to all of you who suggested the MDE site for ordering Magic Bands. We got ours yesterday. I was thrilled! And, like Gwen, I couldn't put mine on by myself, either. And then promptly today, I got an e-mail inviting us to be a part of the MyMagic+ testing! I'm so excited - I think! After I read everything, I don't think we can take part because I only have AP vouchers which I have to redeem at a guest relations office to get the ticket number. So basically, I can't book any Fast Passes+ until I get there - and that kinda takes the fun out of things. Am I right in
  19. I thought they might not be able to accept tips. That's a shame. They work so hard to make our trips wonderful. Thank you for answering my question.
  20. About two years ago, I did the Segway tour at the Fort and I had the most wonderful instructor. At the end of the tour, I wanted to show my appreciation for his help and attention by tipping him, but no one else approached him. I thought that perhaps he wasn't allowed to accept tips. In November I'm going to be at the Fort with some friends and we are going to do the Segway thing again. Is the instructor allowed to accept tips? And what about bus drivers who go out of their way to help us? I did write a letter commending the instructor's kindness and helpfulness, but that seemed so inade
  21. Oops! Sugar-free treats at MVMCP are few and far between! Since I'm not eating sweets this trip, I'll just skip the goodies and marvel at the gorgeous decorations and Christmas spirit at the party. The parade is so pretty and so festive, and the fireworks are beautiful (of course, you can watch those from the Fort). If you have little ones, there are special meet-and-greets, and Santa pulls up the rear in the parade. Granted the party is quite expensive, but it's just my husband and me - and I want to do it again. I love Christmastime at Disney World!
  22. We went to MVMCP on the first night two years ago. Never having been to the Halloween party, I guess I don't know what you mean by "nuts." We had a good time, walked on a lot of rides, didn't have to wait long at all for cookies and hot chocolate, and I had a front row "seat" on Main Street for the second parade. We are going this year on Nov. 14, and I'm hoping the experience will be as good as the last one.
  23. I just saw on another website where MyMagic/FastPass+ will be testing select guests arriving at Ft. Wilderness from Oct. 21-31. This is the first I've heard of Ft. Wilderness guests being selected as "testers." (But, then again, I'm a little behind the 8 ball.) These dates leave me out - arriving Nov. 8 - but perhaps some fellow board members will be selected.
  24. I think this is a really good idea - especially for those of us who don't want a relatively expensive dinner while at DTD. Plus, the trucks may relieve a bit of the congestion at Earl of Sandwich. I say "yea" to this change!
