Dumb question - are you tie-dying a t-shirt? Is it fun/worth it? What is the charge? Sounds like something my kids might enjoy but I wanted to get opinions.... Edited to clarify... There is a lady on etsy who makes them and they are really good but her customer service SMB. And I mean SMB. She is terrible at responding, and thankfully I knew from my friend to tell the lady we were leaving a week earlier than we were. I told her we were leaving at like 4am on 11/11. Guess when my shirts showed up? 11/11. Anyway, I wish I could make them and then sell them. I know I could do better customer service than this chick! Quote Link to post Share on other sites

They enjoy, and proudly wear their creations A LOT.It's not the greatest deal financially, but they really looked forward to. When we did it, they only had shirts in kids sizes, and I wanted an adult size so she could make it for me (because I knew she'd never wear it.) So she ended up making a kids XL, and I think she proved me wrong by wearing it exactly once. It's not any different from any other tie-dye experience, so if you've done it before, it's no great shakes. It was the first time we had ever done it though, and we had fun. If you do it, make sure you wear old clothes, because the people around you might not be so careful when squirting their dyes! They gave us gloves and a plastic apron, but we had a near miss with the overzealous person across from us, lol! Quote Link to post Share on other sites

It was one of the reasons I held the tie dye events at the 4th GG the past couple of years and the kids did such a great job with them. They turned out so much better than Disney's because no one was "rushed" through the process. Although I can't do the tie dye event this year because we won't be at the fourth GG (the moving truck is coming the 8th of July), I will certainly continue the Fiend tradition next year with the kids. I'm reconsidering mentioning it to the kids since we have four and the consensus seems to be that the shirts aren't really worth the $$. We've done tie-dye at our house before and had fun, but it didn't cost anywhere near $80 for four kids. I'm sure we'll stay plenty busy whether we do this activity or not. I got the shirts. Then I took a Mickey Head Kitchen thingy - Now it was time to cut out the mickey head and place it on the shirt. For women placement of the shape is important. My husband tried to stick them on my head... Princess Leia Style. He's still alive but... tools gathered Then frankly it got too busy, messy and crazy to take pictures. Then the glove broke.. my first three fingers look bruised from the purple, blue and red dyes... Now we have to wait till tomorrow. I have no idea how this will turn out..... Yes, there are a lot more things you could spend that $80 on. There are plenty of other activities. If y'all really want to do tie die, there are kits for sale at craft stores. You could buy all the supplies and the t-shirts, and make the shirts at your picnic table for your whole family for less than $20. It started with baking soda and vinegar to clean the tub really good. Then the fun began. Now I will admit I had put off tie dying anything before because of our living arrangements, so the steps for me will be a bit different than in a "normal" house. First t-shirt in the bathroom tub- I rinsed it thourougly for about forever still in the rubber bands. Putting it under the water then squeezing out dye by hand. Finally it ran clearish so I undid the bands and repeated the rinsing process... The Smallest Shirt - Front side Back Side- Now it's time to wash. I don't have a washer and going to the laundromat after each shirt is rinse...not an option soooo we are goin old school- Here is it after it's rinse - Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I removed the plastic from around the mickey head (seen still on above). Turned the shirt side ways and rinsed that part first. Then I took my nifty shower head and this happened- Now that I had most of the dye rinsed out, I cut the rubber bands and laid it flat in the tub to rinse it out more- Once it was rinsed a few more times I removed the rubber bands and dental floss from the mickey head - The Back Side- This is where it currently is in the process.... about time to get back to work on it.
