A Tale of Two Holidays

Recommended Posts

Wow! Great job getting pictures of everyone at the GG! Still loving your pictures! Can't wait to see more!

Thank you!

Your grandkids are adorable

Thank you too!

I agree!

It looks like everyone had a great time on Halloween!

TCD

Yes, they did have a great Halloween.

Great report!

We were in the first site you come to in the 1700 loop (last by the numbers) and Halloween night was just crazy busy in 1600 & 1700 loop. There must have been 12 strangers carts parked on our site.  We tried to get over to the haunted house on the 1600 loop which we could see from our site but gave up because of all the people.  It was as bad as main street after the fireworks. So that is were all the people must have been that weren't on the 700 loop.

Sorry you had to experience that ... it isn't fun.

Monday, November 2

That morning the gang came over to pick up their MagicBands.

DSC_8151%20copy_zpso9gtamg2.jpg

Then we took the family to breakfast at Trail's End.

DSC_8156%20copy_zpsveehxjk5.jpg

Of course the kids got impatient as we finished eating.

And as we were about to get on the boat, David said he forgot his MB.  So the rest of the family went on to MK while we went back to retrieve it.

On the way over to MK I noticed how few shoes were on the Shoe Tree:

DSC_8168%20copy_zpstokczyji.jpg

Our first FPs were for BTMRR.  Our little daredevil was so excited to ride it!

Next up was the Haunted Mansion.

DSC_8193%20copy_zpsbynrad2q.jpg

Just like two years ago, Cailyn absolutely hated it.  It terrified her.

DSC_8197%20copy_zpsdswbi1ev.jpg

So we rode IASM next to get everyone in a happier mood.

DSC_8226%20copy_zpsnvwbpaix.jpg

Next we rode the PeopleMover with Miracle and Red:

DSC_8245%20copy_zpszhvt8fgv.jpg

While the big kids rode SM:

Up next was Buzz.  Why do I always look the wrong way when they take our picture?

At this point we were all hot and tired, so we let the kids enjoy the Splash 'N' Soak Station.  And they took full advantage of it!

David and I decided to go back and check on Kassie and get ready for dinner.

DSC_8263%20copy_zpsunhlalgo.jpg

The family came over for dinner (veggie tray, tossed salad, and hot dogs with chili for Einstein).  And then they went back to MK.  They ended up riding 12 different attractions that day and had multiple rides on SM, BTMRR, and Splash.

TE:  looks like you guys were the only people there!  Lucky you!  The two times we went this past trip, both times they were PACKED.  The first time, there was actually a (very) long line for the buffet and we sat down on the lower level (a first for us).

HM:  tell Cailyn, we understand.  Heck... I can't even get Bailey on that ride :)

Love the pictures at the splash area.. super cute :)

That's pretty sweet that the kids got to play in the splash zone on November 2.

And it looks like they didn't even have to change clothes afterward.  Back in my day, I used to have to pack dry outfits for my princesses.  Which is why I was glad they didn't have this one in the MK when my kids were little.  They had one near Kali River Rapids and then that one along the path between Future World and World Showcase in Epcot.  And, of course, the big fountain in Downtown Disney.  I hated them all, and was happy when my girls finally realized it isn't really so much fun to get soaking wet in the middle of a theme park.

We always go to TE at 7:30 or 8:00 a.m.  It's usually not very crowded then.

My daughter at 11 stills hates the opening scene. It doesn't help that years ago Grandma unknowingly scared her (went to grab her hand to comfort her in the dark) and last year, I thought she was past it and scared her.

Poor girl!

It was so hot that day that their clothes were completely dry within a couple of hours!

When our kids were little AK wasn't open, but I do remember the one in EPCOT.  The kids loved it.

Ever see this sign on a Disney bus?

DSC_8363%20copy_zpsweslf3kh.jpg

Don't believe it!

We made plans to meet the kids at EPCOT.  They drove, and we went on the bus.

Got to the Outpost and waited ... an EPCOT bus came ... and went ... another bus came ... and went ... over and over again.  Three bus drivers offered to call someone to help us ... that help didn't come.

The problem is that the Fort shares an EPCOT bus with Wilderness Lodge ... and a lot of people at WL use ECVs.  And even if the buses weren't loaded with ECVs, the drivers wouldn't ask the WL guests sitting in those seats to give them up.

It took us 90 minutes to get to EPCOT.  We were super-frustrated, and the family was tired of waiting.

DSC_8268%20copy_zps5itwpc6n.jpg

To pass the time during the morning they visited a few characters.

After we arrived, we visited The Land.

DSC_8274%20copy_zpswz9dkzcz.jpg

They had more Mickeys on display than usual:

DSC_8278%20copy_zpsnzkvx9pa.jpg

DSC_8279%20copy_zpssklw6ags.jpg

We visited Sunshine Seasons for a snack.

DSC_8281%20copy_zpsfbat1gy9.jpg

David and I split the Mongolian Beef.  It was edible.  Usually the food I get there isn't.

DSC_8280%20copy_zpspy7cjgov.jpg

Then we went on to The Seas.

Next we made our way toward Journey Into Imagination.

DSC_8328%20copy_zps0muoyvym.jpg

The kids had a great time in ImageWorks:

David and I went back to the Fort to prepare for dinner because we were having a much-anticipated guest.  The kids stayed in EPCOT for awhile.

EPCOT_DPIRIDESYSGMTT_7532147294%20copy_z

Einstein had been excited for days to see our guest:

DSC_8365%20copy_zpsamnyuszq.jpg

This is Matt, who was Einstein's K-1 teacher.  He has since moved from Raleigh to Orlando, but they keep in touch and Matt still helps Einstein with his homework.

We had dinner and a nice visit.

DSC_8367%20copy_zpsgdj7bico.jpg

And my little helper Diva volunteered to help me clean up after dinner!

This makes me very sad and mad. The drivers shouldn't HAVE to ask anyone to get up. We were on a bus here and when we pulled up to a stop that had someone in a wheel chair outside, I immediately got up and went to another seat. No one asked, no one needed to. People need to do the right dang thing!

I'm sorry that no one was decent enough to make room for you for so long.

I actually enjoy their Mongolian Beef there. There are coconut macaroons there that my wife LOVES (likely more than she loves me).

Thank you, Doug.  But it wasn't just me.  By that point there was a long line of ECVs waiting.

Wednesday, November 4

Kassie had a rough night again, so I spent more time in the laundry.  Gave her Pepto Bismol and stayed in to take care of her.

Meanwhile the kids spent the day at DHS.

STUDIO_HAT2_7509802933%20copy_zpsoxria16

Erica took Miracle and Red to visit some characters:

STUDIO_OSBLIGHT7_7509609696%20copy_zpsz1

STUDIO_PIXARPLCHR1_7509661168%20copy_zps

And Matthew rode RnRC with Einstein and Diva.

STUDIO_ROCKNRCOASTERRIDE_7532520446%20co

They were all going to ride ToT together next, but Miracle refused.  He said it was too scary.  Erica asked him why he thought that, and he said it was because he could hear the people on the ride screaming.

So Matthew and Erica did the rider swap.

STUDIO_TOWEROFTERRORBRIDE_7532521462%20c

STUDIO_TOWEROFTERRORARIDE_7532520580%20c

Red said he really liked ToT, although it made his tummy feel funny.

We finally got Kassie settled down and took her for a buggy ride.  As always, we headed toward River Country.

DSC_8384%20copy_zps8vnc7ojz.jpg

It looks like Disney has replaced the mesh screen with a heavier one that's hard to see through.

DSC_8386%20copy_zpsu9ffhaa4.jpg

DSC_8387%20copy_zpsewuztzw2.jpg

But there are still a few holes in the fence big enough to get a camera lens through.

DSC_8388%20copy_zps4ysajmu3.jpg

DSC_8389%20copy_zpskfg9bwh6.jpg

We had lunch at TE.  I had the Shrimp Po'Boy (minus the bread) with remoulade and bread and butter zucchini.  It normally comes with fries, but I got collard greens instead.

DSC_8375%20copy_zpsdhuszlya.jpg

David had the Pan-fried Catfish with collard greens, fries, and remoulade.

DSC_8377%20copy_zpsqaxyxmcm.jpg

While the food was good, I do have one complaint.  Both the shrimp and the catfish were cooked in a heavy cornbread batter.  I prefer a lighter flour-based tempura-style batter.

Kassie said she wanted to ride again, so we complied.

DSC_8405%20copy_zpsl2hpv2n5.jpg

We found this adorable trailer:

DSC_8407%20copy_zpsy0rzlilg.jpg

Around dinnertime the kids finally returned from DHS.  Miracle and Red were fighting with their newly-built light sabers.

DSC_8409%20copy_zpsiu7ut6nv.jpg

We had Steph's Buffalo Chicken (complete with slaw, provolone, and ranch dressing), and then David and I took the kids on a golf cart ride.  Diva managed to drop her shoe along the way, and thankfully with the help of a strong flashlight we found it.

Then the kids went back to their hotel and we took Kassie out on the cart again.  She still wasn't feeling well, and we talked about what to do.  We decided if she wasn't better in the morning we would take her to Sand Lake Animal Hospital.

DSC_8429%20copy_zpsottkugf6.jpg

Mickey was still wearing his fall attire:

Thursday, November 5

Kassie had a really rough night again, so we called Matthew and arranged to borrow his van so we could take her to the vet.

Kassie had several x-rays taken.  None of them was conclusive as to her immediate problem, but something none of the vets at Sand Lake had ever seen did show up.  Their recommendation was that we take her to the specialists at Maitland, but we were warned that it would cost us at least $5,000 for them to see her.  We couldn't afford that.  So we arranged to have one of their radiologists read that strange x-ray (for only $125).  Will share the results of that later.

The Sand Lake vets'  consensus was that she was also suffering from aspirational pneumonia.  They thought we caught it too early for it to show up on the x-rays.

So Dr. Smith admitted Kassie to the hospital for the rest of the day and started her on fluids and IV medication.  But Dr. Smith also warned us that the situation could go south very quickly if Kassie didn't respond to the medication.  We left Kassie there with very heavy hearts.

As we pulled out onto Apopka-Vineland Road, I saw a beautiful rainbow in the sky.  It hadn't rained all day, but that rainbow was there like a sign to me that Kassie would be okay.

Knowing that Kassie would have to be in the hospital all day on Friday and probably half a day on Saturday, we went to Alamo and rented a car.

At 4:30 we picked Kassie up.  Sand Lake doesn't keep vets in the hospital at night, so Dr. Smith thought she would be better off with us.  She came home with the catheter in her leg.

DSC_8475%20copy_zpsjd7mfbkx.jpg

I was concerned that Kassie would damage or pull out the catheter, but she didn't have any energy and left it alone.  We got her to eat half a vanilla wafer and drink a little water, along with her medicine.

Meanwhile the kids had a great time at EPCOT.

David met them at the TTC to return the van, and then we collapsed.

I love your pictures.... they always give me a different perspective on WDW; even if I've seen the exact thing pictured, 100x  :)   Picture on ToT crack me up, simply because the kids don't look thrilled..but they obviously went on it two times, haha :)   Bailey didn't care for EE at AK, but she did it twice.. "because we had FPs to use up"  :)

LOVE that cute little camper!!  Man... we didn't see that.  So, SO cute!!

Later we found this rig all set up on their usual spot in 1200:

We saw this same rig last week, only now it's been changed over for Christmas.  It's a pretty awesome display, complete with live trees.

LOVE that cute little camper!!  Man... we didn't see that.  So, SO cute!!

When our grandchildren visit their other grandparents, they often visit Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio.  They are accustomed to the many thrill rides there, so I think they are a little underwhelmed with the rides in WDW.

We saw this same rig last week, only now it's been changed over for Christmas.  It's a pretty awesome display, complete with live trees.

The rig left the Fort a few days after Halloween.  Then within a week or 10 days they were back again with boxes of Christmas decorations.  Anyone know who these people are?  Apparently they don't live too far away from the Fort.

Super cute camper but poor sweet Kassie. I imagine you had a hard time enjoying yourself.

For days I was terrified that she wouldn't live through our vacation.  I can't imagine losing a pet there and having to come home without her.

Friday, November 6

We took Kassie back to the hospital and were relieved that she would be in good hands while we spent some much-needed time with the family.

While they were waiting for us to arrive at MK, Erica, Diva, and Miracle visited with Anna and Elsa:

MK_PFTHBLUEA2CHAR_7511528789%20copy_zps6

They all rode 7DMT:

And by that time David and I had arrived.

DSC_8479%20copy_zpsbs3wpiiz.jpg

We all rode PoTC together.

DSC_8487%20copy_zps3pfkhvmp.jpg

And I cheated and took a few flash pictures.

DSC_8547%20copy_zpsbzbavqwu.jpg

As is often the case, SM was down as we rode through.

We had ADRs for an early dinner at Crystal Palace.   Before we got there, Erica got a call.  Would you believe their family pediatrician was in MK at the same time?  So they rushed down Main Street to get a picture with her.

MK_MSCONFEC_7511834996%20copy_zpsaavrgc7

And we stopped in the Emporium to take some silly hat pictures:

I'm so sorry about Cassie being sick.  Poor thing.  And, I know that it had to stress you out too.

Your photos are great- especially the ones you took around the Fort at night.  Excellent job.

That hand-painted trailer is a work of art!

Nice work on the River Country photos.  Why should they tear down that eyesore?  New mesh for the fence is a lot cheaper. LOL.

Yes, we were both very stressed out.

I couldn't decide if that trailer was hand-painted or if it was a skin.  If it was hand-painted, someone took an awfully long time completing it.

I was disappointed to see the new mesh.  It makes it nearly impossible to see anything inside RC.

Friday, November 6 -- Part 2

Finally our ADR time arrived.  We were seated in the Crystal Palace, and Einstein was just blown away.  He kept saying, "Wow, Gigi, this is the nicest restaurant I've ever been to!"  Poor kid doesn't get out much.

Anyway, we had a good meal and the kids really enjoyed the characters.

David and I drove over to Sand Lake to pick up Kassie.  She had responded remarkably quickly to the medication and wouldn't have to go back Saturday morning for more IV treatment.  Dr. Smith also said Kassie had developed quite an attitude with the staff that afternoon, and that was a good sign she was feeling much better.  But she still hadn't heard about Kassie's strange x-ray.

Meanwhile the kids stayed in the MK until late that night.

You did a great job capturing all of the Magic Kingdom Christmas decorations.

When you started this trip report, I was wondering what two holidays you were referring to in your title, as I thought y'all headed home before Thanksgiving.  Now I see- in less than a week you went straight from Halloween to Christmas.

I am impressed that your children and grandchildren stay in the parks all day long.  That's hard core.

Not only would it be hard to loose a pet there but then every visit thereafter would be bittersweet. So glad she responded so well to treatment.

I too am impressed that the grandchildren made it till close. Actually I am more impressed with the parents. ; 0)

Yes, they are hard core.  Like you and your family!
