I'm not asking myself, why go to Nebraska. One of my most memorable business trips, ever, to observe factory automation was to of all places, Nebraska. It was during one of the coldest and snowiest wi

Ok, you had me at Farmall. I grew up on one of those. Also, love the parade theme. I bet NYC or Boston has never had a 4th of July parade themed The Wonderful World of Books. That's why I love sma

This is what I'm talkin about. This is the USA. I'll take this over WDW any day.

Awesome!  Was happy to see this in my New Content this morning.

That bread oven is cool.

Thanks!  I agree about the bread oven.

Yes.  Awesome.

Glad to see that this report is continuing.

Interesting about the laundresses.  I never thought about how that was handled back in those times.

TCD

Thanks for continuing to read along.  I never thought about it either.  Just one of those things we take for granted.

Also glad this report is continuing!

If you are headed back, does that mean there will be a new report too?

Not sure about another trip report.  My family is not as keen as you all are about me taking pictures of everything.   :rofl3:

They did have a golf cart there for people to use if they wanted to.  As the area itself was not too big, I decided that walking was a better option for me.

Jessica seems to enjoy it though.

Yes and before you ask it does seem to be a habit we have to pat her belly or her bottom.  We can't help it she has such a spank-able toosh.  :rofl2:

We head back to Arnold.  With the intentions of getting some dinner at JIm's Bar.  When we get back there, we find that the power is out.  Since no one was sure how long this will last, we are given a flashlight to use.  Thankfully it didn't last too long and we are able to get some dinner.  Sorry no pictures.

The next day was a planned relaxing day.  Well at least for the girls and me.  One of the reasons for going back to Arnold was so that Steve could go through his dad's belongings.  His sister who lives in Arkansas and brother who lives in Iowa had been out the previous month to to this, but he was unable to go then.  So Drew and him went off to do that while the  girls and I went here.

The next day was our last day in Arnold.  Time to do some last minute sightseeing in the Sandhills.

After stopping at the cemetery to pay our respects to family and friends buried there, we head to Omaha.

Last year we decided to finally finish our basement.  What does this have to do with this trip report?  Well it seems that this allowed us to earn many free nights using our Marriott Rewards.  So, for our stay in Omaha we would be staying right downtown at the Courtyard.

We got in pretty late that night so, I waited until the next day to get pictures.

As I mentioned we didn't get in until late the night before so, we really didn't do much that day.  That night we went to dinner at our favorite place The Bohemian Cafe.

I stay at a lot of Courtyards.  They all have that darn oval coffee table.  When you try to rest your feet on them, you get bruises on your heels.  Just for future reference.

LIBOR means something completely different for me working in commercial lending....the London Interbank Offered Rate.  I think I'd like the Czech version better!  More delicious.

Time to go walk or skip as some may choose off that meal.

P1030868.jpg

Now why would we need to do that?

We would need to have room for this.

Let’s try my sophisticated look this time.

Well you need to pose for a picture first.

Nope. Not good enough.  I want a real smile. Not a Zoolander look.

Ok that works.  Go get your shake.

Would you just put the camera on me?

We probably should have stopped here on the way out.

P1030901.jpg

But we didn’t.

Oh look a slide!

In the words of Nicki and Mo, Jessica and Rachel said…Let’s Go!!!

Made it to the top.

Come on Daddy.  Let’s Go!!!

Well it is finally time to head back to our hotel.

That ice cream place looks really cool.  Love the old machines.

The slide?  No thanks.  Slide of Death Part Deux.

The ice cream place is cool. We returned here later in the trip.  I had found it while I was doing some research on places to go in the downtown area.  I grew up here, but not in downtown Omaha.  In fact when I lived in the area there really wasn't much to downtown Omaha.

I didn't try the slide.

All right, it looks like I won't get this done before I leave, but I wanted to get a quick update in before turning in for the night.

While we were at the Bohemian Cafe we picked up and order of these for breakfast the next day.

P1030923.jpg

We were going to go to the zoo that afternoon, but first wanted to go get some lunch.  So we went here.

P1030931.jpg

One of the recommended items to order was the ricotta pancakes.  So we did.

P1030930.jpg

We also ordered a homemade Italian sausage sandwich with roasted red peppers.

P1030928.jpg

I don't remember what this was, but I know there is a side Italian sausage with it.

P1030929.jpg

The food was really good and very filling.

As I said our plan today was to go to the zoo.  This is the zoo I grew up going to when I was a little girl.  I have so many fond memories.  It is the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha.  When I would go when I was younger, it was easy to see everything in an afternoon.  Now? Not a chance.  I have been to many zoos including the San Diego Zoo and the National Zoo in D.C.  All I can say is if you ever get the chance to go to the Henry Doorly Zoo then...GO!

I'll pick back up at the zoo when I get back.

Here is an article from Omaha.com if you want to read more about the zoo.

This trip report just helped me out. :)

We are about to travel to Mt. Rushmore from Moore, Ok in 2 weeks.  North Platte is about 500 miles away and that's about how much we like to drive in one day. We will stop there for the night.  I think we'll go to Fort Cody and I'll put Runza and Taco Johns on our list of places we should eat at.  Thanks!
