  1. We are coming up on two weeks till departure so my engineering genes are kicking in with the need for excessive planning for every contingency. The last time I was in Orlando was over ten years ago and I flew down and drove back. Having only the car and this being the south where NASCAR rules it was flat out as fast as other traffic on I-95 would allow. This time around we have a trailer necessitating the need for more reasonable speeds so I would like to get an idea of the travel time from the Raleigh area of NC to The Fort. I know I have the potential to hit traffic in Jacksonville, Fl and
  2. We had a Golden Retriever at one time and I think just about every human they meet is their best friend.
  3. I bet I could get some of that bacon from Mikeypro and your guard dog would be sharing that beer with us in no time.
  4. No need for excuses a good reporter does whatever it takes to get the story. :wine:
  5. Could have been a carbon monoxide issue or a gas leak and the detector didn't go off. With a lot of the combined LP/CO detectors being installed I could see where CO might no be detected until it is too late since the detector is near the floor for LP and CO rises to the top. This is why I've added a separate CO detector near the ceiling over our bed.
  6. This ^. Another thing that can cause it is being too close to an A/C vent. They need to be installed at least 2 feet from any vent but even then it can still be too close. Ours will give false alarms when the A/C turns off. It is directly in the path of the cold air and the sudden change in air density or temperature sets it off (not sure which). I am planning on moving it to the front of our trailer over the bed before our next trip which hopefully will resolve the false alarms. As an aside, for the false alarms due to cooking we just put a plastic shower cap over the alarm before we sta
  7. The drop off charges or higher rates depend upon the contract or program the car is rented under. It can also be affected by any specials in effect at the time of rental. I have never paid additional for dropping a car off at different locations as those are waved under my company plan. The same is true for my credit card plan but it's regular rates are usually not as good as my company's or specials at the rental agency.
  8. Ah yes glitter. The bane of my daughters birthday and Christmas cards from my mother. You would think with all of the adhesives that have been invented they would have one that worked for glitter. You know maybe that's my ticket to easy street. I wonder what my wife will say when I convert her parking place in the garage into a chemistry lab?
  9. When Elvis died I was living in SoCal trying to make it in the music business. All I can say is thank goodness I had a day job and an affinity for electronics or I would have starved. I would be back in the Chicago area by the end of the year and surprisingly made more money off music there but wouldn t trade the experience for anything.
  10. Wouldn't that be more like, "Find the Pirates of the Carribean" and she responded, "Okay, you want a deep fried falafel." :rofl2:
  11. Thanks for the reports. I've made reservations at the KOA.
  12. We have decided one marathon drive is enough when we visit the Fort in October. With this in mind we have decided to stop in Savannah on the way back and spend a day there since we've never visited it before. Right now we are considering the Savannah South KOA and Skidaway Island State Park. After discounts and entrance fees the overnight costs are similar. The amenities are acceptable at both considering we will spending most of our time in Savannah. I was wondering if folks have had any experience with either of these parks, recommendations or alternatives? While we are in Savannah are t
  13. I wholeheartedly agree. Just give me a cooler with some beers, a fishing rod, bait, a comfy chair by the water and I am fully taken care of.
  14. Thanks for the translation. Fortunately, or maybe not, we are well past the princess phase in our lives.
  15. For that time of year you forgot Portuguese. :rofl2:
  16. This is very timely the whole FP+ thing is new to us. I was planning to wait until our FP+ registration was closer but will ask now rather than clog up the forums later. I understand the process behind the FP+ but not sure how to use it effectively when we go the MK and Epcot on Oct. 20 & 21. We are going to MK on an extended opening Monday. Our plan was to be there when it opens then return to the trailer in the afternoon, eat dinner and head back to the park in the evening. To us some rides like the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are best done after dark. We want to go
  17. I wouldn't suggest using a pressure washer. It would be too easy to damage the seals/caulking around windows, roof seams and get water into the appliance vents. All I do is use a good quality car soap with sponge and bug buffer. Then if I'm up to it I'll give the nose and sometimes the rest of the trailer a waxing with a high quality automotive paste wax.
  18. In addition to those CheapTickets is running their mail scam in our area. They are one of those that says you won two airline tickets to get you to call so they can obtain your credit card and personal information then start charging your credit card $12/mo without you authorizing it.
  19. We haven't decided on where to stay and appreciate any recommendations. I lived on Hanscom Field as a kid. Rene and I went back for a visit about six years ago but stayed at a hotel. Most of the woods I used to play in are now within the Minuteman National Historic Park. While there were some changes I was really surprised how much hadn't changed from when I lived there in the 60's. One of the reasons we are looking to go back is to retake pictures. We lost all of ours from the last trip due to a computer problem. The last time we went it was summer and abnormally warm. This next trip we ar
  20. My wife and I are planning trip up to the Boston/Lexington/Concord areas sometime next year. This looks like it might be a fun stop for an overnight and quick tour of the aircraft (yes I like planes).
  21. Smoking area or not cigars hold a different place in the level of smoke and smell which is why many places that allow cigarettes don't allow cigars. While it might have been perfectly legal to me it still lacks in the etiquette department. Had it been me I would have been more direct and asked that he take his smoking someplace else.
  22. I was very please to find the site but came directly to the forums through a link. It took me a short bot before I found the rest of the site and posting. One thing that might help is just sticky this pointer at the top of each public forum for those that don't come through the main page.
