  1. $2100-$2900 per night means I'll never see the inside of one unless I'm hired as a housekeeper.
  2. I probably average 3-5 meat free meals a month. Mostly in the Winter and Summer. The cold weather lends itself to soups and roasting vegetables and during the summer the garden is actively producing so after a day of canning it is just easy to throw some of the extras together with pasta and call it a meal. Of course during deer season I set up a chair on my back deck, not to be confused with a parking deck, with a bit of refreshment and obtain the materials to refill the freezer.
  3. Thanks for posting. I haven't been to Disneyland since we've moved away from California in 1992. Needless to say I've never seen Disney Adventure. It is fun to see how the area has changed since living there.
  4. After the bit about a previous life in the restaurant field I couldn't really tell and no emoticon. That's one of the problems with this whole internet stuff. You can't tell what inflection is being used. As far as the whole vegetarian/vegan/tofu farting, tree hugging, fairy thing goes I went through it with two daughters when they hit their teenage years. Being the cook in the family it wasn't the most enjoyable phase for me. Fortunately it only lasted for about year. As I look back on that time I realize I still had it much better than Dave only having to deal with three women in the house
  5. Just to add. I would think that Disney would have some clearly labeled items on the menus as being vegetarian or vegan. Many restaurants just go ahead and make their vegetarian entries vegan to cover the full spectrum of customers.
  6. Yes I read your full post but in it you state that there were surely many other things on the buffet they could have eaten and then gave an example of cheese pizza being acceptable to a vegan. That is not acceptable for a vegan but would be for some vegetarians. All I was doing was correcting the incorrect information.
  7. Vegans cannot eat cheese pizza if it is made with dairy cheese. A vegan diet means no animal products of any type for food and many subscribe to no animal products period. There are various types vegetarians that will eat various levels of animal food products as long as they aren't the result of killing the animal.
  8. As Ray points out you get what you pay for. I would have qualms about a $200 generator. I use an 8500 watt construction grade generator for backup and it is adequate for what I need. I use it to run our well, fridge/freezer, portable heaters, fans etc. I do not use it for any modern electronic device (TV, sound system and so on). Our unit is 14 years old, American made and ran around $600 back then. The equivalent model today is around $800 - $900. My guess is something in the 3000-4000 watt range would be $400 - $500 with an American made engine. I have started looking at the smaller Honda
  9. What are you planning to use it for and what model? I don't own one but the models I am familiar with from searching myself are construction grade and don't have an inverter. This makes them unsuitable for use in powering things like computers and other electronics that need a stable power source.
  10. Maybe it's my naivety but having the chef do something special for a random customer does not seem that out of line for the restaurant industry. I have had it happen and have seen it happen at other restaurants and thought nothing of it. I think the majority of the other customers felt the same. To me seeing the chef do this or visit with tables is just part of the job by getting in touch with the customer as opposed to being isolated in the kitchen.
  11. :rotfl6: I bet you will ... I guess I'll have to have my daughters pull out their old Girl Scout badge sashes and appear as character witnesses on my behalf. I can hear it now, "Yes your honor he's a real character but he's our Dad so we put up with it". Next stop San Quentin.
  12. I have no problem with chocolate together with any of the items you list. I'll even add in peanut butter and bacon. Apple I like and love my mom. I just don't care for Thin Mints so sue me.
  13. While I don't plan on giving up meat I do seek out high quality vegetarian restaurants to keep up variety when we dine out or are traveling. From what I've seen here if Disney were to open one with Chef TJ running it I think it would be very successful. I would surely make a reservation for what that's worth as I would much rather have what you did than a buffet.
  14. Another one here that isn't fond of Thin Mints. I wasn't aware of this restaurant and will keep it in mind for our November trip.
  15. Not nessecarily in any order but our favorite rides are: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Space Mountain Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Haunted Mansion Pirates of the Caribbean (although I like the original version best) Enchanted Tiki Room Six and a half: The Tea Cups (The DW won't ride them unless I promise not to make the cup go round so we don't go. ) To round out to eight and a half we have to move to Epcot: Soarin Mission Space The rest of the rides are all ok but not things we consider must rides. We haven't been to the other two parks so cannot say what we would or wouldn't like there.
  16. Yes it is. Rene and I had that while we relaxed and had a couple of drinks before dinner at Artist Point. My only warning is reconsider sitting in the upholstered furniture on the one end of the lounge if you plan to eat. While they were comfortable they were a bit too large to sit well for those of us of short to typical stature.
  17. Whether they are called a deck or garage is largely regional. I have heard both terms used across the various states I have lived in.
  18. No sympathy from me either. Looking for 15 Thursday morning with a high of 28 or 30 depending upon which weatherman you believe. All I can say is Brrrr. Can't wait till we get back to normal temps.
  19. We haven't had a dog for a number of years now and never had to worry about whether it came from China or not. We had Golden Retrievers when the kids were growing up and just fed them mid-priced commercial dog food and supplemented that with rabbit hearts/kidneys, chicken hearts/gizzards and beef bones (when they were still cheap). We would also add some fish oil to the commercial dog food to help add back in some of the fats that were typically missing.
  20. I guess a lot depends upon what type of food you like but Rene and I liked the Rose and Crown and Tappan Edo.
  21. Makes me think someone has been watching too many Home Improvement episodes. :tool:
  22. It is somewhat different than a swamp cooler in that it isn't relying on evaporation to cool the air but the ice temperature itself. That being said it will be a humid cooling so I suspect that will mitigate some of the cooling effect when used in high humidity situations such as we have here in the south. I also think it would be fairly messy as the water vapor in the air condenses around the outlet.
  23. It's comments like I've seen here about how Disney makes it hard for folks to modify their stay from the resort that makes me wonder if they really want people staying there at all.
  24. Our daughter gave us something similar to a Bocce Ball Jarts set without the points. It has a white, weighted throwing thing you throw out and has colored throwing things you try to get close to it. It also has a set of rings you can use like a bean toss, Jarts or horse shoes. We keep it in the trailer for something do during down time. this looks a lot like what she got us, http://www.target.com/p/lawn-dart-bocce-set/-/A-14896128 .
