  1. Cool! I don't remember these existing before. I'll have to get one before we go next time. No screen name anymore. LOL I just changed to to my real name since I noticed, in my absence, lots of people had added their real names to theirs. I guess everyone at FW will know my name, but that's good with me.
  2. I'm going to have to look into this. I remember back in they day, looking for a pink flamingo to paint purple. Is there are standard fiend sign? We've never tent camped through a FL storm, but did some biggies up north. Only scared me when our kids were little. One night I completely emptied out the van (a huge G30 Chevy van) and made beds for all the kids inside. The rear space perfectly held a queen sized air mattress for us and the two youngest. The older two had their own bench seats.
  3. Awww, I'm so sorry to hear that. I feel bad that you were frightened by it. You could have taken your air mattress and blankets and set up in the comfort station. If I learned anything from our latest trip to the Fort, it's that mostly everyone is completely chill. I never met anyone that wasn't, I only know they exist from this forum. It was really loud. It woke me from a sound sleep, that had been induced by two different rx sleeping medications. Even so, I loved going back to sleep to the sound of it. Not even sure how long it lasted because I did fall back to sleep quickly. What lo
  4. We live in northern FL (Lake City) and tent camped all summer last year. We even had to run out to Walmart to buy a space heater when we were at Fort Clinch in June. I had spent the previous night in the van with the heat cranked up to 90. Also, our electric bill ran quite low all summer. It has been $100 higher from all the a/c usage in previous summers. Interesting how we have completely different perspectives. We do live in the boonies, no where near town, so it tends to be cooler here. Also, the majority of our camping it at the beach. We don't do Disney at all in the summer.
  5. This is true. One of my grandsons (4 yrs) is afraid of dogs. I would not want to camp next to dogs with him. I often accuse my mom of wearing rose colored glasses. Perhaps I'm turning into her?
  6. This post had me cracking up with all the references to the "heat" in MAY, especially last year. The only place it would have been warm is in Animal Kingdom. We didn't even have too much of a summer last year. We camped all year, even though we usually skip a couple months when it's hot. In May we were still running the heat at night. Anyway, aside from being amused by anyone thinking it was hot, it looks like you all had a great time! I enjoyed the trip report very much.
  7. Our pop-up has great air conditioning. Many of them do, I just thought it was because they could escape through the canvas. I can see a dog chewing their way out if left alone. We never leave our dogs alone anyway, even the non-service variety go everywhere we go while camping. I didn't mean to derail the conversion. Was just thinking maybe some of the dogs in the wrong loops may be service dogs? Or am I giving people too much credit? I know none of the ones I have seen photos of on here are service dogs, or they wouldn't be dragging their owners around on the leashes like they do. Ser
  8. I love storms in a tent. I know it's not a safe place, but I enjoy it anyway. Because we have a pop up, I always check the canopy above us when we get to a site. If any branches looked iffy, I would ask for another site, or move the camper to a location of the site not directly in the path. We had a good thunderstorm last week, in the middle of the night, at the Fort. I knew we would have been safer to move to the comfort station until it was over, but didn't want to get out of our cozy bed. Just said a little prayer and went back to sleep.
  9. These are super cute! The only ones they have now are Frozen themed. If Frozen EVER wears off, I'm going to keep my eye out for one of these for the camper. Right now our Q-tips are in a Ziploc. Maybe I will see if they will fit in a Disney puzzle tin. I know they have those at Dollar Tree. The glow sticks, for camping with kids, are a must at Dollar Tree. You can get a tube of 16 bracelets or 8 necklaces for $1. Best price anywhere. Our camper is completely stocked from Dollar Tree and thrift stores. The only thing I had to throw away and get a better one of is the can opener. Dollar
  10. Just wondering if there is any exception for service dogs, who would never be alone? I mean, assuming a person with a tent or pop up was to pay the premium for a pet loop. Our dogs always camp with us, other than the Fort. Even once our Addie is certified as a service dog, I doubt we would bring her to Disney. Just wondering if the same rules apply.
  11. Thanks! It's a '99 Coleman Nevada. I spent several hours taping off all the decals and DH painted it. We also used Grizzly Grip on the roof, which made it look nice, as well as crack proof. We did quite a few other repairs on it as well, but only paid $1800 for it, so didn't mind putting a bit of work and money into making it last. Better than having something with payments. I made all new curtains and cushion covers, and DH fixed the cargo leak, repaired the small soft spots the leak had left in the floor, and laid new linoleum tile. We never put out the awning. We could have if we moved t
  12. Cool signs. I think we could make our own. I wouldn't try to hand paint anything, but maybe some sort of transfer paper method, covered with sealant.
  13. Here is the short video I took of some of the large rigs on 1500. Had I realized this was not commonplace, I would have rode the loop and taken video. You can only see the very front of the bus through the trees. The following day, a huge 5th wheel took up residence on the empty site to the right. Apparently, people just like the location as it's right across from The Meadows. I know I LOVED the location. I feel like we had the best site on the loop, thanks to TCD's recommendations. Perhaps they were just allowing this because of the empty spots? The day we arrived (Sun
  14. We had many big rigs on Loop 1500 last week. I took a short video of just ones I could see while standing in the doorway of our camper. I think there were four in the video - all very large. Class A, 5th wheel, and even a bus! I was shocked because I thought only tent and pop-ups were allowed, but didn't mind at all. I had the comfort station mostly to myself the entire week. I only ran into another shower being used twice. There was us and two other pop-ups, 4 or 5 tents, and the rest all very large rigs. It was a slow week, and within a couple of days of arriving there was quite a fe
  15. I just want to thank everyone that helped me out on this, with a special shout out to Tri-Circle-D for specific site suggestions. I had no clue what I was doing and could not have managed such a perfect trip without the help. I sent a fax specifically requesting one of these three sites, as a first option, and the ones suggested in 2000 as a secondary option. We were given site (censored.) It was a perfect site for us. Our son was able to navigate the bus and boat system to get himself to Magic Kingdom. This is a HUGE step in the process of regaining some of his independence. He has no
  16. Thanks, we will use the overflow lot. The less time I have to be behind the wheel, the better. I hate driving. Also, we will have an ECV that has to be returned at FW and no way to transport it other than Disney transportation. This will work out perfectly for us. We were not originally planning on going to a park on Friday, but realized the Arts Festival at Epcot is only on weekends. I NEED to attend that. We only live a couple of hours away, so not that big of a deal.
  17. Thank you. I wasn't sure if they would let me park there or not, since I was no longer registered. But going to give it a shot for sure.
  18. Is there a place we can park our van and camper on the day we check out? I think we have to be out of our site by 11, but still want to got to a park that day before we drive home.
  19. We certainly did need her. Just didn't realize how much at the time.
  20. Just wanted to update. Joan got a name change to Addie a few days after being here. It's short for Adilee, a German name that means "powerful." Our son really loved the meaning of it as he feels like he has lost most power over his life. Addie will be giving some of that back to him. We tried it out to see if she would respond to it, as we didn't want to traumatize her. She seemed to know immediately that it was her. So she is now "Addie." She has been in training since a week after we got her. She is so smart and amazing. She picked up all her commands within a few minutes and has perfecte
  21. Wow, that would be a site to see! I would think it would be hard to travel with a pony, but still very cool.
  22. I've been here since June 14, 2011. I had no idea that i had stumbled upon a new group when I first came here. Looks like I had two good years prior to my son's accident that took me away from all forums, and life in general, for a bit over 3 years. I've popped back into my other camping forums as well and was surprised to have some people remember me! Well, Happy Birthday Snarky!!!! If I remember correctly, you are a purple flamingo. :-)
  23. Pop Century has a turkey now. She moved onto the property during hunting season last year. I forget her name, Matilda or Mildred or something like that. No fear of people at all. Just hangs outside the food court.
  24. Ewwww, of all the resorts to expand. I can't stand that place.
