Tropical storm Erika and Disney
Clark W Griswold replied to ~Kristina~'s topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
We were at the Fort during 9/11 and a couple of days later a tropical storm came thru...They evacuated us to Port Orleans...All RV's and trailers were parked in the hotel parking lots...All pets were allowed inside quest rooms...The storm blew through and the next day the branches were cleaned up and we returned...Actually went quite smooth... -
Glad he's going...Winnie the Pooh wanna be :)

Weather Alert
Clark W Griswold replied to Travisma's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
We were at the Fort a couple of years ago during a "tornado warning" for the Disney area. We started for Trails End. There was never anyone from Reedy Creek or the Fort going around warning people which I found disturbing. Even once at the restaurant we told people to go inside as no one else was instructing them and many didn't know of the warning......We had very gusty winds and heavy rain for about 10 mins but thankfully no tornado... It was enough to make me wonder of their emergency preparedness plans though!! -
Chincoteague Island Ponies
Clark W Griswold replied to Travisma's topic in Camping To and From the Fort
We just went in April for the first time....I was nice but ponies were far away and those that were close were fenced in..There was one little guy who had escaped and was walking down the side of the road...He was pretty cool...We biked inside the park which was fun and the beach was beautiful ......Overall a fun trip but a day or two would do... -
I have a couple in Massachusetts...Normandy Farms (Foxboro MA) is resort camping and has been rated one of the top campgrounds in the country......4 pools (1 indoor)...Frisbee golf, dog park, very nice facilities.. right near Patriot place..restaurants, shops...Sites are kinda close together though and rates are in the $80+ range...Horseneck Beach (Westport MA) state run campground...No frills but right on the beach...Need to book way in advance...We have a nice little campground (Lebanon Maine) that we go to every year called Flat Rock Bridge...Not too fancy but clean and offers full hook u

I DID take part in the survey...I resoundingly rejected the tiered system...At the end there was a comment section and I made it clear that as a family that has made yearly trips for almost 20 years we would certainly cut back on them if this system was implemented...Hopefully many people responded the same way...Disney already gets enough of our hard earned cash...enough!!!

We did the trip last year with the camper...Stayed at the KOA on the Canadian side...Nice campground...Nothing fancy but clean facilities and close proximity to the Falls...There is a park app. a mile give or take from the Falls which we parked at and rode our bikes to the Falls each day...Parking is kinda crazy...Worth the trip though way cool...

Newbie here :D Lots of questions!!!
Clark W Griswold replied to NurseAsh's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
Welcome!!...We tend to drive to the other parks other than MK...The buses can be a pain at the end of the day when everyone is tired and one more line and wait just doesn't seem appetizing...Other Fiends have brought up a good point though as its your first trip you might want to get the "lay of the land" first...Have a great time!! -

Spending Christmas at the Fort
Clark W Griswold replied to michaeljsz's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
This past Christmas was our first time staying at the Fort for the Holidays and we had a great time...We decided late and Jason saved the day for us...I agree resort hopping to see the decorations was a lot of fun but the BEST was cruising around the Fort and checking out all of the awesome decorations at everyone's camp sites!! Plan to bring some decorations of your own if you can fit them in...We are returning again this year and look forward to meeting you! -
This would be scary...

Agreed very important for all vehicles...I always made it a point to make sure my kids school bus drivers went over ALL emergency exits on their buses with their kids at the start of every school year as well..Be proactive and not reactive after a tragedy!! -
Site fee
Clark W Griswold replied to dblr....Rennie's topic in General Camping Discussion and Questions
With all the amenities the Fort is still a good "bang for the buck"...Especially when you factor in all the $$ you save by eating at your campsite and perhaps bringing snacks into the park...Even a few waters in a back pack will save you big bucks over the vacation...We still go out for a few meals but the money saved really goes a long way so when you factor that into the equation it still makes it cost effective..
