  1. I mentioned this briefly above. But, I will mention it again here just so you know. This post involves a lot of photos of water. Bay Lake water in particular. Perhaps a bit too much Bay Lake water. But I like Bay Lake, and I have these photos to share. So, I'm going to share them. We left off with us leaving the Fort dock and heading over to the Contemporary Resort. There's the Fort Wilderness marina fading off in the distance: And here we are out on the lake. This is one of the pontoon boats you can rent at the Fort. I haven't rented one of these before. It looks like fun: Here's some sh
  2. I will not presume to speak for Starbuc71. But, as we all know, perception is reality. What I took away from our conversation is that he had posted a few things here, and was more or less ignored. I don't think he was mad about it or anything- he just felt this place was not his cup of tea. I can see where someone on the outside might feel overwhelmed, and maybe even intimidated by the thought of joining this nuthouse. I have said all I care to about this topic. Now, let's get back to the report in progress! TCD
  3. There is another installment on the way. Photos are uploading as we speak. Before I get to that, though, there was an encounter that I forgot to mention. It happened on Saturday. When I was out on patrol on Saturday, I ran into a fellow driving a really cool Herbie the Love Bug golf cart. It was Starbuc71. From that other place. We had a very nice chat. He's a great guy. We talked about this place. I guess something happened here that made him feel less than welcome. I don't know what. But whatever it is, it's a shame. If you are reading this Starbuc71- Hi! I hope to see you around the Fort ag
  4. Wow. That is a really complicated answer. it sounded very plausible . . . Right up until S70 posted this: I think that is the same thing. Did you notice that it can hold 20.000 flies. 20,000! I don't know about you, but if I'm camping somewhere where there are 20,000 flies to catch, I think I would pass on the fly trap and find another place to camp. Don't feel bad. S70 also busted my Bigfoot IV bag theory. True. I hope they put the hammock next to Fonzie's jacket. Or maybe Archie Bunker's chair? Yep. And, I'll give everyone fair warning that there a bunch more Bay Lake photos on the way.
  5. I think there is definitely something about the 1700 loop. Last 4th of July, I saw one yellow fly during our four day stay on the 1500 loop, while some folks on the 1700 loop were getting bit up. And there may be something to the female thing, too. But, the TCD twins are of the female persuasion, and they didn't get any bites this time around. Last year, yes. This year, no. I think this year is better than last year. Except, I am sorry to say, for Beccaewert. TCD
  6. Carol- Great job! I have heard folks wonder whether you can do all four parks in a single day. You have shown that it can be done easily. And it can be great fun. Thanks for sharing. TCD
  7. Time for the next installment. It is still Sunday morning. This is turning out to be a long day. Time to head back to the campsite. I noticed this sweet cart in the Meadow golf cart parking area: Nicely done! It was now 10-ish so I roused the TCD twins. They would sleep all morning if I let them. They asked me to get them up by 10. So I did. We did a little looping. I saw this on the 2000 loop, and none of us were quite sure what it is: I guessed it was an IV bag for Bigfoot. The girls guessed that it was some type of insect trap. I am not sure that it was put there by Disney. As you have
  8. Thanks for doing that Norm. And to any of you who found your way here from there, welcome! If you're just looking, take a minute and join up and leave a message here! I must have really enjoyed myself. Because I swear I was at Fort Wilderness. Hey Norm- Thanks for popping in. Yes, I guess I am pretty much the Walmart of the trip report section. I am dealing in high volume. But, there is always room for a clever writer with great photography skills. First you have to get back to the Fort, though. I have a younger sister who wants to go to this Bonnaroo thing. I have considered it. You are ri
  9. I don't know. Maybe they made it look old to fit in with the rustic Fort Wilderness theme? Kind of like they did over at Animal Kingdom with making everything look old and worn like it has always been there. Actually, you make a good point. If this fish feeder needs to be there (which I doubt), they could have done a better job at making it look like it belongs there. Oh, I think you should call while you are on your meds. It might make your questions more interesting. Thanks Norm. That link you posted is to the website. What thread was this on? I don't recall having visited that site befor
  10. I had an interesting Yellow Fly experience during my stay at the Fort from 6/10/11 to 6/12/11. We camped this same exact weekend last year. And, coincidentally, we were assigned to the exact same site. Last year, we all got bit by yellow flies. One of my DD's got welts from the bites. The rest of us were just annoyed. One evening last year, we abandoned the picnic table and went inside because we were all getting bit. This year's yellow fly bit total was: ZERO. We had none in our group. Same weekend. Same campsite. No yellow flies. And we ate dinner at our picnic table both nights. No mosquit
  11. The Otter Spotter already gave a good answer, but I have one correction, and a couple of thoughts for you to consider. First, you do not need to go out to the main road to get to the pool from the 1300 loop. There is a nice sidewalk poured over the old railroad tracks that leads right from the 1300 loop to the footbridge behind the Meadow Trading Post. That footbridge will take you to the pool. Also, there are sites on the 1400 loop that would put you close to the pool. In general, though, I agree with Otter Spotter- if you want to be close to the pool, then 900 or 600 would be the best opti
  12. Hello Lou! Yes, this happened just like Lou is reporting it. The GAG can be ordered from the cash register that you see in the back of the photo that Lou posted. And, this Ken fellow had no idea what a Giddyap and Go was. As Lou said, the take-out sign is posted right over by that register. When the waitress asked Ken about the Giddyap and Go chicken, he said he had never heard of it. But, he did offer, helpfully: "there used to be a Petting Farm here." What the Fort? Weird is right. TCD
  13. The GMR scene with the hijack by the cowboy is not new. When you enter the big room in the line, before you board, there are actually two lines. If you go to the right, you will be sitting in one of the front cars. These cars drive through the gangster scene, and stop in the Western scene. While the back cars have the gangster shoot-out and hijack, the front cars are stopped in the Western scene, and witness a bank robbery and fire. When the cars move again, the back cars pass right through the Western scene without stopping. For a long time, I knew nothing about the Cowboy/Bank Robbery sc
  14. Well, we have all learned an important lesson here: NO more intermissions in a TCD TR! Let's get back on track. Where we left off, I had just done a little looking around in the area of the old Fort Wilderness Railroad. And now we are heading back to the Bike Barn. This shot is taken from the canal, looking up the bank. All of these weeds had died back over the winter, but they will soon form a solid wall of vegetation that will make it difficult to walk through this area: Likewise, the vines have started growing and covering the trees and other plants along the banks: Did you ever here the
  15. Wow! Just wow! What happened to my Trip Report? Talk about hijacks . . . Hippies! Glitter! Duct Tape! Scary Mutant Squirrels! Even a Rastafarian Orangutan! Whew! As you know, I normally will comment on replies made to one of my trip reports. But, I am going to pretend that this didn't happen and move on. OK- I have to make one comment. That accordion-playing squirrel made me LOL! Good job on that one, Ed. And, great job to the rest of you too. What talent we have here on FF.net. Scary. But great! Now, let's get this trip report going. Because I now have yet another in the hopper. TCD
  16. Congratulations, Tom, you did it! You have over a thousand views on this TR! When I logged in today you were at 999. See: So, I clicked to post this reply, and now you are over the top! TCD
  17. GAG Chicken? You are a riot, Lou! TCD
  18. Hey! I said don't freak out. I'll be back. You'll be fine. Take your boat out or something and have a fun weekend. TCD
  19. Thanks for that link, Lou. But, why would that van have been at Fort Wilderness? TCD
  20. Excuse me just a moment. I must interrupt this Trip Report for an important announcement. Is everyone listening? There will be a three day intermission in this Trip Report. I am sorry to do this. But it is unavoidable. I am going to be out of town for the next three days. And will not have reliable computer access. Don't freak out or anything. I'll be back. On Monday. June 13th. And then we will get this thing back on track. I don't even thing we are halfway there yet. While you wait for this one to crank back up, I have a few suggestions for you. First, my friend anolefan wants to have over a
  21. I didn't know that you got to go on the Marshmallow Marsh excursion. Lucky! Wow, another customer for my book. I guess that means I will sell at least two. You are right; What am I waiting for? Sounds like trouble to me. Should we pre-alert the Coast Guard? TCD
  22. Like Ed says below, I don't think it's duckweed- it's just slime. Of course! Glad to see you here. Where have you been? Not many people rent the canoes. They should. It's fun, and I know it was less than 10 bucks for me. They charge by the half hour. I was gone close to an hour, but if you stay in your canoe, you can cover the whole course in a half an hour, which I think will run you $8. Yep. That's the same slime. On this visit, it was only slimy in the canal between the 600 loop/campfire bridge and the big bridge between 1400/300. But sometimes, the Fishin' Hole gets slimy too. I
  23. I will leave you hanging no longer. In my last update, I had failed in my mission to re-trace the route of the FWRR. So, it was time for Plan B. It was almost 9 am. And, the Bike Barn opens at 9 am. I headed there to rent a canoe. No big deal. I've done it before. And, as I have mentioned before, I earned my canoeing merit badge back in my scouting days. I thought I would be the first one there when the Bike Barn opened. But some eager beaver family was there renting canoes, too. That could mess up my plan. But it didn't. So, here we are leaving the banks of the Fishin' hole. There's the Bike
  24. Over a year? Time to plan another trip! Thanks for joining in. I accept your challenge. But, I must warn you that I have already been awarded the (genuine cardboard) championship crown at the Meadow Trading Post. Plus, in the unlikely event that I find myself falling behind, I know that all I have to do is point and shout "SQUIRREL!!!!" Then, I can rearrange the board. Now don't go wishing for that. You would be mighty bored. TCD
  25. You are doing great on this report! Those are two great photos! I have never seen that van before, and I wonder what it was doing at Fort Wilderness. It is worth going to Star Wars Weekends just for the people watching. TCD
