  1. S70- Great job on your final thoughts. This does look like a nice campground. It's a shame about all the rule breakers. It is a sad commentary on how things have become today. While I may not care for all of the recent po-po activity at the Fort, I am afraid that if the effort were not being made, the kind of stuff you experienced would soon be going on routinely at the Fort. So, when's the next camping trip? TCD
  2. I am never slow on the uptake. I was just yanking your chain. Mrs. TCD is a teacher at a Christian Pre-School. The TCD girls all were major stars in our church children's choir. Trust me, I have heard this song many, many times. I was just Fortin' with you. Hmmm. Mysterious. Now, we will have to figure out your secret identity. Your name isn't Larry, is it? Ah ha! I knew it! I knew this had something to do with patching the space-time rift. Thanks for clearing that up, Shanta. My wife and kids don't care for Dasani either. Zephyrhills used to have the WDW contract, but I guess Coca-Cola pu
  3. Steve- Great job on the report and the photos! I had no idea all of that cooking and libation imbibing was going on at your site. It sounds like y'all really did it up right! TCD
  4. For clarification, Lorna's family got four spikes. They are special, so Lorna, Richie, Matt and Lorna's grandson each got a spike. TCD
  5. Tom- We can make this happen. Maybe start out with something easy like exploring the old railroad tracks or the old Wilderness Swamp trail, and then build up from there. I am sure we will meet up at the Fort again one of these days. Heck, maybe once your junior explorers get good at it, I can tell Yuri to get lost, and send your guys out with my camera. TCD
  6. Hey Doggmeat! Great report! I was at the Fort this past weekend. I wish we had a chance to meet up. I know that you and the Fort go way back, and I love to hear about the good old days. I am glad security let you in. For whatever reason, they were way stricter on Sunday the 3rd than they were on Monday the 4th. TCD
  7. Another great trip report, Lorna! If you don't mind, please give the Fiends a yellow fly update. I know that when we spoke about this, you had at that point received zero yellow fly bites, which is quite a contrast from last year. Did you ever get bit? TCD
  8. Great job on this report! That food spread looks fantastic. You are a good sport to let the kids whip you in UNO. Sounds like it was a great weekend. Thanks for sharing. TCD
  9. Well, now. That's more like it! Good job on that! I notice that you're new here. Are you new to Fort Wilderness discussion boards, or were you a member on another one before joining here? Either way, welcome. and thanks for joining in! TCD
  10. I am making up for my brief absence by posting another batch of 30 photos. Right in this post. And there are still more to come. But, at least it's Saturday afternoon. And this is just a two night trip. So, we are going home tomorrow. Which means that we are now past the half-way point. And we can get this report wrapped-up. As mentioned, we planned to leave the Fort a bit in the afternoon. Although I love site 1512, it gets direct sunlight for a couple of hours in the afternoon. And, that June sun is hot. Too hot for the TCD pop-up's AC unit. So, we turned off the AC and went on an adventure.
  11. That's a work light? Really? All that and it's just a work light? Boring! Thanks for clearing that up, though. I would never have guessed that it was a work light. Looks like it's kind of a fancy thing to bring camping. TCD
  12. The saga continues . . . From the cabin pool, I headed over to the 2000 loop for a look-see. I always enjoy looking at the tent camper set ups. Some people keep it simple. Some people go crazy. And some folks are just ingenious. Like these folks . . . They took some EZ-up gazebos and blue tarps and made themselves what looks like a pretty nice set up. They must have had AC in there, as thing was shut up tight, and there are no windows: It must have been pretty cave-like in there. But, I'll bet they were nice and cool and dry. On the way back from the 2000 loop, I had the pleasure of riding
  13. You made a good point there. I have been to the Fort multiple times over the past six months that these folks have been on this site, and I have yet to see anyone outside on this site. Note that they have a movie screen set up. I would imagine that they might occasionally use it. Anyone got the 411 on these folks? Jesus loves stefa70? I don't remember reading that in the Bible. TCD
  14. Crud. I just wrote an update, and went to post it, and it disappeared. I was just talking to TnBob about this at the Fort. The same thing happened to him recently. I told him that it had never happened to me. I should have kept my mouth shut. Oh well. Let's try this again. We left off with me enjoying the view from this picnic table across from the Bike Barn: We are under a big live oak, and it is shady and breezy, and just a delightful place to be. Even though it is already a hot morning, it is nice and cool here in the shade. There is resurrection fern growing here on this tree: I love
  15. OK, I'm back. That wasn't so bad. And the good news is that there will be another Trip Report immediately following this one. For those of you who participated in the hijacking, good work. I love the Jack and duct tape photos. Before resuming, I have a few comments on some of the posts made in my absence: A pressurized poop pipe!!! Makes sense that they fixed, I mean repaired it with duct tape. Wow. Just wow. Me too. Congratulations, Shanta. Veterans of Domestic Wars Day? You are truly one of a kind. For whatever reason, most folks don't jump out of bed early at the Fort. It is very laid
  16. Where does the time go? My oldest DD just turned 20, so she and your DD are about the same age. She really enjoyed the experience in Williamsburg. It's too bad that has been discontinued. I forgot all about good old Miss Manderley. That reminds me that we had an American Girl Tea Party at our house once. Good times. it's good to hear the AG franchise is still going strong. When my girls were younger, I used to read to them at bed time. I think I got to read all of the American Girl books that way. I think Kit was the last one that came along before the bedtime stories ended. I'm sure t
  17. Hey S70- I'm just back from my weekend at the Fort, and am just now catching up with the trip reports. I am glad that the rain stopped for you after Friday. And, your no-rain dance worked at the Fort, too. We arrived on Saturday and left yesterday (Tuesday), and we had not a single drop of rain the entire trip! With all the rain we have had lately, that is quite remarkable. So, thanks! Thanks for the Crepe Myrtle photo. Maybe my Grandpa and yours got together and l looked over us both for the weekend. I love the Mason photos! He is definitely smiling. Your boat looks great! I love the ma
  18. Hey Tom! Great job on this TR! It was good to see you at the Fort on Sunday. Man, there were a lot of Fiends at the Fort this weekend! I love this shot!: I have stood on the very rock and looked over that fence many times! I am sorry about your trip back home. Wow! And the problem is, once you're on 4, there really aren't a lot of options for alternate routes. You did a great job on this report. Thanks for taking the time to post it! TCD
  19. As best I can recall, that was all the taste testing I did on this trip. I didn't need to lick the armadillo, because I knew what he was. I'm sorry to say that you will need to put your dancing banana away for a couple of days. Against my better judgment, we are about to have another intermission. As stated above, I don't think there were any more ingestions, and no ill effects in any event. And, for those of you following along, we are going to have a break in the action. I'm going away for the 4th. I'll be back to finish this thing next week. And maybe I am not going to be caught up after a
  20. Continuing on . . . It is time for us to head back across the bridge and reunite with the TCD golf cart. We have more places to visit. And, I need some more coffee too. As I head toward the bridge, I noticed this Bay Tree behind some of the sites on the 1400 loop: You wouldn't know it unless you visit in the Summer, but there are Bay Trees all over the Fort. They start to bloom right after the azaleas and magnolias finish, and bloom with white flowers all Summer. The 100 loop is called Bay Tree Lane, but there are Bay Trees all around the Fort. They are beautiful to see! As I crossed the b
  21. I have another 30 photos uploading right now. But, first I will pause for a brief comment. I have now been a member of this site for 57 days. That's 8 weeks and a day. When I joined, there was not a single trip report with over a thousand views. This one just became the 16th! And there are a bunch that have blown way past a thousand! That's pretty remarkable if you ask me. I call that the TCD Effect. Go Fiends! Now, back to our report. Will we ever make it to noon on Saturday? Not in the next post we won't. TCD
  22. I do have an armadillo photo coming up in a while. But, this one was hanging out near Trail's End. Maybe he is your armadillo. You will have to wait for the photo to see. I agree with your father about duct tape. I have "fixed" plenty of things with it. But, I assume someone was paid to fix the backflow thingamajig, and that maybe something other than duct tape was in order. TCD
  23. I am no DVC expert, but my understanding is that at AKL, both pool areas are open to guests at either the hotel or the villas. At BLT, however, guests of the hotel are not allowed to use the BLT pool. At Yacht and Beach, I believe the villas have a small pool, but rights to use the big water-park. Obviously, this is a marketing strategy. I guess they don't need that kind of trick to sell DVC at the GF? TCD
  24. Well, as long as we are near the top of a new page, I might as well post more photos! So, here we go. We will push this post all the way to the 30 photo limit. How do you like me now? We left off with the poor dog tied to the tree. Did anyone guess that we would be stopping at good old site 617 next? If so, you are right! But that really wasn't too hard to figure out, now, was it? I usually park behind the 800 loop bus stop for these visits. And that's exactly what I did. You know I always am on the look-out for something new at the Fort. And, I saw something new right here. Namely this: You
  25. I disagree with you on the gator v. duck photo, but I agree with you about no more purple trap tasting. Don't worry about it. You got us to page 4. And page 3 was getting really long! TCD
