  1. How about the story on this one? That looks like a Fort Wilderness maintenance golf cart, and a rocking chair from Crockett's Tavern's porch. So what is going on here? TCD
  2. Thanks for the link. That is a very well-written and informative article. It confirms what Discamper said about Bay Lake being drained and de-mucked. What a project that must have been! In fact, it is mind boggling that all we see today at WDW was carved out of nothing. The scale of what they did, and how they did it is really amazing if you stop and think about it. I can't imagine that a project like this will ever be built again. Good suggestion. I will put that on my to do list. I have not actually visited this area of WDW, but I don't think it would be too hard to do. Lou- I apprec
  3. Lorna- You have come so far in your trip writing skills! This one is like War and Peace compared to your last one! Seriously, though, a short, from the heart, trip report like this one is better than a long-winded overly-detailed one. Thanks for sharing, and I'm glad to hear that a good time was had by all. TCD
  4. S70- You are doing a great job on this trip report! Inquiring minds want to know: Did you make the pulled pork, or buy it pre-made? If you made it, how about a recipe? If it was pre-made, where did you get it, and was it good? It sure looks good! Tom- Thanks for pointing that out- I don't remember seeing this sign before, but the name Randy Pausch seemed very familiar. I wasn't placing it. I read the Last Lecture a few years ago, and remember seeing the video of Randy before. Very inspiring! TCD
  5. This is a great trip report! Good job on the photos, everyone. Let's see some more! Don't look now, but this report is really building up in the number of views! TCD
  6. I agree with Deb, Lou and Shanta- If there was a buck to be made by expanding the Fort, WDW would do it in a heartbeat. Obviously, they see the DVC's as a cash cow, and it is because of this that I believe the rumor about a new DVC project going in the old River Country area is true. It has been said before, and I agree, that WDW management doesn't know what to do with the Fort. Could they offer promotions to fill the Fort on weekdays? Absolutely! But they don't. They must figure it isn't worth it to them. Shanta- I remembered where this was previously discussed. So, here is a drawing
  7. I thought that this trip report was over. But, Discampers photos of the site of the Contemporary Resort inspired me to look for some old photos of Bay Lake and the early years of the development of Walt Disney World. I found this image, which is similar to Discampers'. Supposedly this was taken in 1967 from the area of what is now known as Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom, looking East. The big cleared area is where the Magic Kingdom will be built. You can see Discovery Island sitting out there in Bay Lake: The island that has been referred to as Shipwreck Island does not yet exist. Nor
  8. Nicely done, Lug. But, this would be even more impressive if you would tell us the names of the roads in Hebrew. (Just kidding) TCD
  9. Well. that makes four of us. When I first saw the photos, I thought this vehicle had been on an extreme RV show that I had watched somewhere along the line. But, when I looked at Stefa70's photos, I thought how is this thing an RV? And, I never realized the guy was from Florida. I got the impression that the one on the show was from out west somewhere (maybe California?). So, thecplusguy, does this guy live in Central Florida somewhere? TCD
  10. I agree with you, Lou. I see no reason that they need to increase the bus fleet. I have no problem believing that the buses run at far less than capacity, as that has always been my experience. Except for at opening and closing time, I find that the buses are never more than half full. Same thing at the Fort- except for when folks are heading to or from the Settlement at dinner time, the internal buses are seldom anywhere near full. TCD
  11. Cherie- Thanks for sharing your report and photos. It sounds like you may have been driving more than you were visiting this weekend. It looks like you had beautiful weather every place you visited. Congratulations to your granddaughter, and I'm glad to hear that her dad got to witness the graduation. TCD
  12. You are off to a great start. I love the photo of Mason. Good job getting a couple of snaps of that weird car. It has Florida tags. I sure have never seen or heard of it before. I am starting to get worried about the site assigner. The fax request used to work pretty well for us, but we have had similar issues with not getting what we requested a few times recently. I have always worried that if too many people started making requests, they would just put a stop to it. But, the request for a different site technique still seems to work. I have never heard of having to get a new parking p
  13. You and me both. But, the TCD gang had other plans for Memorial Day. I'm hoping to get to the Fort soon before the Summer heat really hits. And, yes, I do have two more trip reports to get to. Thanks for reminding me. TCD
  14. Great job, Fiends! It is weird to see that many familiar Fiend faces at a place other than the Fort. It looks like everyone had a great time, and that the weather was nice. If anyone else has photos, I am sure that I'm not the only one who would like to see some more! Oh yeah . . . I love that new little Fiend! TCD
  15. Steve- Thanks for posting your great report and photos! The photo of brother and sister is my favorite. That one is definitely a keeper. TCD
  16. Magicbus- That is a very interesting bit of information there. I have noticed that the WDW bus system has changed substantially in the last few years. Some of it I like, but some of it I don't. For example, the buses to Epcot and Hollywood Studios often drop guests off at a place much more distant than the resort bus stops. This is obviously because those buses are not going to be returning to the resort that they just came from, but will instead be waiting someplace for their next assignment. The larger resorts get quicker pick-up from the theme parks this way. During our visit to Pop
  17. Whoa! Now that is a thread hijack to behold! Who'd a thunk that we would have Bible scholars debating the meaning of a Hebrew word in a TCD trip report? Not me! If I remember correctly, Shanta did some studying in a seminary (which I think consisted mostly of drinking HeBrew beer with a group of fellow seminarians). Ed- where do your mad Hebrew skills come from? That Bruce is a witty one. And he's right, too. Don't worry, you won't have to wait very long at all for the next one. TCD
  18. Thanks, and the same to you! Nope. That was not TCD. But, it is a very good video. Thanks for posting it, Todd. Yep. I still have some tread left on the tires. תודה לך!
  19. Well, we have made it to the end of another TCD trip report. That makes three this month. If you haven't read the other two, make sure to look them up. And not to worry, there are still a couple more on the way. As I said earlier, things are different here now. So be sure to check back. As for this trip report, we have finally made it to day two of our trip. We had been at the MK until about 2 am, and didn't hit the hay until 3. The girls were sleeping in. So, I took some time to look around the Pop Century resort. It is nice enough. Does anybody know very much about this place? It has a very
  20. Thanks for saving the snark! I already feel bad enough after hearing that you and WBI are only 30 years old. Enjoy your 30's! I know that I did. I'm just sad that I am almost done enjoying my 40's. TCD
  21. I understand what you are saying, and thanks for clearing it up. I will need to take a closer look at the one by International Gateway. I have only driven under that one a couple of times. I didn't realize that there were two separate roads on two different levels that travel beneath it. Very interesting. Well, right back at ya! I notice that you waited until your Red Socks finally won a couple of games in a row before you started with your smack talk. It's a long season. We will see. The hockey game tonight is huge! Go Bolts! It just goes to show you that Fort Fiends rock! That is a ver
  22. Wow! I had no idea that Pop Century was that much bigger than All Star Music. It doesn't feel that way. But, there is one thing that I do not like about the Pop compared to the All Stars- the layout. Because of the big lake that bisects what were to be the two parts of the resort, it is a hike to some of the rooms from the parking areas. At the All Stars, there is parking on every side of the resort, so you are never as far from the parking areas. I have only stayed at Pop Century for a night or two here and there, and never in the summer, so I have not experienced the crowding. TCD
  23. Lou- Help me out- I can't find the third water bridge on Bing. Obviously, there's the one just South of the Contemporary Resort. And, then there's one between the Yacht and Beach Club and the International Gateway entrance to Epcot. Where is the third? Alright, you kids keep it down with all your youngster chatter. And quit your bragging. I'm having a big 0 birthday this year too. So Whoop Dee Doo. I agree with you on the Pop. If you are staying at a Value resort, the Pop beats the All Stars. But I think it is harder to score a reservation there. TCD
  24. OK- you have a good excuse for your Fort Fiends slacking. Just don't let it happen again. Good Lord, are you saying you were born in May 1981? I am getting old. No worries about the water bridge. I would venture to guess that most people don't even realize that they are traveling on a water bridge when they head from Fort Wilderness to the MK. So don't even think about ti. If you like 80's memorabilia, or memorabilia from the other decades of the second half of the 20th century, then you will want to check out the Pop lobby. They have big display cases of artifacts from each decade. I e
  25. Clearly, the modular construction method did not catch on. It has been 40 years since the Contemporary and Polynesian were built (which is hard to believe). I have never heard of anyone trying this method since. Look, things have picked up around here. If you take time off you will fall behind. Get someone else to clean the house. Or you are going to miss something. Did you see post #100 at the bottom of page 5? I am working on the next installment, but part of it is still being reviewed by the TCD research department, and it may not post until tomorrow. TCD
