I've always thought that most of the Tampa news stations were just a notch above a third world countries compared to NYC.
Boy, was I in for a surprise when we went back to NY last summer.
Their news stations were even worse, they were all like TMZ or The Daily Mail programs.

Orlando airport could be nation's largest to opt out of using TSA
Only a day after it was announced that Orlando International Airport is now the busiest airport in the state of Florida, surpassing Miami International Airport, OIA is reportedly considering the option of privatizing the safety screening process at its security checkpoints.

According to News 6, OIA has begun to detail a proposal that would seek to replace the Transportation Security Administration, or TSA, with a private company. The move is in response to the need to further secure checkpoints throughout the airport that, as of recently, have begun to get bogged down with an increase in passenger traffic. Last month, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority announced it was considering the option.

(TSA was established as a response to the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.)

In 2017, OIA managed more than 44.6 million passengers traveling either to or through Orlando, making it the 13th largest airport in the U.S. Overall growth through last year was 6.41 percent, which represented an uptick of nearly 2.7 million passengers over 2016’s final standings. In a news release from OIA, much of that growth is attributed to an increase of over 3 million passenger seats added to the market.

“As the busiest airport in passenger traffic in the state of Florida in 2017 serving Orlando, the most visited destination in the country, we are working hard to meet the growing demands and provide the experience travelers expect,” says Phil Brown, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, in a news release. “Another year of record passenger traffic highlights the need for our current $3.5 billion capital improvement program. Current projections are that this level of growth will continue in 2018.”

OIA is also currently expanding ticket lobbies, which is expected to boost the airport’s capacity to around 45 million passengers as early as this summer, due to estimates on annual passenger rates that could reportedly hit as many as 46 million – and that, with just two checkpoints to work with, is what leaves OIA in a bind.

To date, an airport the size of OIA has never opted to replace federal screening officials with a private workforce. A few years ago, in 2015, Sanford’s airport opted for private security. However, with just 3 million passengers every year, Sanford’s airport passenger rates represent just a fraction of what OIA has to work with.

In 2017, OIA was ranked No. 1 out of 18 mega airports, according to a J.D. Power study of traveler satisfaction, and received four out of five stars, which meant it was “better than most” by the survey's standards.

In addition, in 2015, a survey by Valencia College showed that 90 percent of passengers at OIA were satisfied or very satisfied with the airport’s screening process. That same survey was reportedly conducted at the request of TSA.

As part of OIA’s capital improvement project, the airport broke ground on construction for a new South Terminal last month – what will amount to a $2.1 million job.

There’s A Rumor Going Around That Disney Is Replacing It’s A Small World With A ‘Tangled’ Ride [Opinion]
It is one of the most iconic rides in Disney history, but is it going to be replaced?

There are so many rumors that get passed around regarding Disney, and about 90 percent of them never end up coming true. However, they just keep coming. Walt Disney World has so many things going on right now, and until they say something publicly, it isn’t happening. With that being said, there is a rumor gaining a lot of steam right now that Magic Kingdom will be closing down It’s a Small World and replacing it with a Tangled ride, but is it really happening?
It is one of the most beloved attractions around and one that consistently has a rather lengthy wait time. As this is being written at 12:20 p.m. on February 7, 2018, the Magic Kingdom attraction has a wait time of 45 minutes for its standby queue.
Yet, there are always going to be rumors, many of which come about with no real backing or solid proof. As reported in a post by a website known as Viral Disney, Disney World is planning on shutting down It’s a Small World to make way for a Tangled-themed attraction since it has not had “many guests visiting the attraction.”
First and foremost, Disney has not said anything regarding this matter, and there have not been any whispers of this anywhere else.
According to the very short post, Disney “feels” that more guests would be attracted by the ride changing to a Tangled theme. Immediately next door to It’s a Small World, there is a small area themed after Rapunzel’s movie, with restrooms, charging stations, and seating.
As of this time, there is absolutely no credibility to this rumor. It is nothing but pure speculation, and the site in question is known for creating rumor posts and just letting the fire fade out without ever addressing it again.
The rumor of It’s a Small World changing to a Tangled theme is being passed around on social media and made it into the forums of WDW Magic. A number of those who are well-versed in Disney and have quite the extensive knowledge of the company immediately shot it down.
Some are even stating that Rapunzel and other Disney characters could be incorporated into the current It’s a Small World attraction. This would not be replacing the ride, but it would mirror what Disneyland has successfully done with its version.
Characters from animated films such as Toy Story, The Little Mermaid, Lilo & Stitch, Aladdin, and many other Disney movies are in scenes and segments of It’s a Small World in Disneyland. It is tastefully done, and they actually add a lot to the longtime attraction.
(WDW gets the short end again.....)

It is possible that It’s a Small World is going to be completely gutted and changed into a Tangled attraction or something else entirely? Of course. Anything is possible, and anything could happen at any given time, but it’s hard to believe something that comes without any sources and promises that “more info will be released next week!”
Now, it’s a waiting game to see if anything more will actually be said or if this rumor will fall away like many others that have been written.
Until Walt Disney World actually says they are going to do something, they aren’t doing it. Even then, there’s the possibility that a project could be changed, delayed, or canceled entirely. All anyone has to do is look at Rivers of Light, which was delayed for months, to know that anything can happen. As for It’s a Small World changing to a Tangled-themed attraction, all we can do is wait and see, but as of now, it is nothing but a rumor.

Travisma got a reaction from BradyBzLyn...Mo in Rumor: 2018 Ticket Price Increases?
    Little more information...

Last year, the ticket price increase at Walt Disney World and Disneyland happened the earliest it had in a long time. As reported by Inquisitr, it was 2016 that seasonal pricing was introduced for one-day tickets and some new expiration policies were implemented in 2017.
    2017
Price Increase Date: Feb. 12 Increase Amounts: $0 to $5 2016
Price Increase Date: Feb. 28 Increase Amounts: $0 to $19 2015
Price Increase Date: Feb. 22 Increase Amounts: $3 to $6 2014
Price Increase Date: Feb. 23 Increase Amounts: $4 2013
Price Increase Date: June 3 Increase Amounts: $1 to $6 2012
Price Increase Date: June 3 Increase Amounts: $4 2011
Price Increase Date: June 12 Increase Amounts: $3 Going back farther than 2011, the ticket price increases typically happened in August going back to 2006 when they happened in January. Now, those with Annual Passes also need to be prepared as the prices on those typically go up at the same time as the daily tickets.

Walt Disney World and Disneyland have a lot of projects going on right now with new rides, brand new lands, and a lot of other exciting events. In order for those things to take place and become realities, it’s going to take the money needed to build, and that is where the ticket price increases come in. While there are just rumors right now, these dates and other numbers should help you get ready for the inevitable in this month of February.

There's also a quick way to the MK from there. Head through the Beach Club lobby to their bus stop, and it's a nonstop ride to the MK from there. If you're at the back of Epcot, this will save you the long walk to the front, waiting for the Epcot monorail, and then transferring at the TTC.

Disney's Polynesian Resort is now offering a boozy morning drink menu

Mornings can be brutal when you’re surrounded by tour groups and screaming kids as you wait to get into a Disney theme park, but Disney has you covered with a brand-new morning drinking spot.

The Tambu Lounge on the second floor of the Polynesian Resort’s Ceremonial House recently unveiled a new morning drink menu.

The bar is better known as a waiting area for Ohana, which is located directly next to it, but it has an impressive menu of its own, including the famous Backscratcher and the pineapple Lapu Lapu drink.

Sadly, the Backscratcher isn’t on breakfast drink menu, but it does have a few other new drinks:
The typical pick your own juice mimosas drink is no surprise; similar mimosas are on other morning drink menus around Disney World. A "Wasabi Bloody Mary" has a house-made wasabi Bloody Mary mix with Absolut Pepper Vodka. A Polynesian Red Eye has passion-orange-guava juice and Parrot Bay coconut rum with grenadine. A Warped Hula Hoop, uses the same passion-orange-guava juice as the Red Eye, but utilizes Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum and melon liqueur. The final drink on the morning menu is the famed Lapu Lapu, served in a fresh pineapple.  The morning drink menu is just the latest in breakfast booze that Disney has experimented with in recent years. Morning menus have popped up at bars in other hotels and in the theme parks, though most of them seem to stick to a rather generic menu of specialty Bloody Marys and mimosas.

Disney has confirmed few details on the new Tambu Lounge morning menu so this may still be a pilot program that won’t be a permanent option. But for now, there’s at least one more place to get a little boozy before heading into the mostly dry Magic Kingdom.

It looks like Disney's new Star Wars land might sell Furby-like porg dolls
As we quickly move toward next year’s opening of the new Star Wars lands – known as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, at Disneyland and Hollywood Studios – details on what we can expect to find in the ambitious new land has slowly been trickling out.

Much of the focus has been on the two large rides and the dining options, but we just got some fascinating details on what might be the big retail item of Galaxy’s Edge.

Like BB-8 in The Force Awakens, the breakout character of The Last Jedi film was the porgs. These small, bird-like creatures have big eyes and a curious spirit that made them a fan favorite. Using this popularity, Disney is rumored to be designing a "porg hatchery" for Star Wars land.

The new retail experience was first reported by Mickey Views after they spotted an Instagram account that was posting exclusive details and artwork regarding a number of Walt Disney World projects currently under development. The account, which is protected, compares the new porgs to Furbies, a famous AI-based robotic toy that was the hot Christmas item in the late 1990s. Furbies are sold by Hasbro, with whom Disney has a strong partnership, including the use of many Hasbro brands in the Toy Story universe.

The Instagram account also showed what appears to be a pledge that new owners would say when "adopting" their robotic porgs. The retail experience sounds like a Star Wars version of the Ollivanders wand experience at Universal, or the Banshee Rookery experience in Pandora – The World of Avatar, Disney World’s newest land.

If the Furby comparison is accurate, the porg robotics may have a basic artificial intelligence that will allow them to interact with their owners in unique ways. Similar AI can be seen in the BB-8 toys that were popular whenThe Force Awakens film came out in 2015.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will feature a large retail area, currently known as Merchant’s Row, with small vendors along an alley similar to an Asian street market or the straw markets of the Bahamas. There’s no word on whether this rumored porg retail experience will be located along this retail alley or will be located somewhere else in the land.

The Disneyland version of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is expected to open next spring, with the Orlando version opening a few months later. The two lands are nearly identical. A third Star Wars land is rumored for a new Disney theme park that Japanese news agencies are now reporting is in the works for the Tokyo Disneyland Resort.

Plan for lots of water/gatorade, then double or triple the amount.
Take lots of lightweight t-shirts and double or triple what you think you will need. You can soak thru a shirt at 08:00 just walking from your site to the bus stop.
Watch out for heavy weight screen printed shirts.  They look great, but they are 2 to 3 times hotter than an un-decorated T.
    Look for wicking shirts.
No denim!  Wear loose lightweight cotton or synthetic shorts.
    Cooling towels or cooling hats.
    Sunscreen, and after sun lotion.
Re-fillable bottles for water at the parks.

A woman tried to bring an emotional support peacock on a United flight — and it reveals a growing crisis for airlines
United Airlines denied a woman's attempt to bring a peacock onto a flight. The woman reportedly claimed that the peacock was an emotional support animal — which would allow the animal to fly for free. While the woman offered to pay for the peacock's ticket, United would not let the animal onto the flight.
United Airlines denied a woman's efforts to bring a peacock onto a flight departing from Newark Liberty International Airport, according to the travel blog Live and Let's Fly.
Photos of the peacock were posted to Facebook by the travel talk show the Jet Set.
The woman reportedly claimed that the peacock was an emotional support animal — which would allow the animal to fly for free. While the woman also offered to pay for the peacock's ticket, United would not let the animal onto the flight.
"This animal did not meet guidelines for a number of reasons, including its weight and size. We explained this to the customer on three separate occasions before she arrived at the airport," United said in a statement to Business Insider.
The airline also said that it requires passengers to "provide documentation from a medical professional and at least 48 hours advance notice" before bringing an emotional support animal onto a flight.
The incident follows Delta Air Lines' announcement that it would impose tighter regulations for passengers who attempt to travel with service or emotional-support animals. The airline said it saw an 84% increase since 2016 in incidents involving animals that were not properly trained, which included urination, defecation, and attacks on passengers and crew members.
The new regulations will require passengers to show the airline documentation that proves an animal's health 48 hours before a flight. Passengers who attempt to travel with emotional support animals will need to present a signed letter from a doctor or mental professional, as well as a signed document that states the animal can behave properly during a flight.
Delta initially faced backlash for its decision to tighten restrictions, but it's possible other airlines will follow suit as they try to crack down on passengers who abuse the support animal provision and use it to travel with their pets for free.
Some Twitter users supported the United passenger's attempt to bring the peacock onto her flight, while others were outraged. Here's what they had to say:

On Sunday, Jan. 28, Ursula's head dangled from her body in full view of guests riding Disneyland's The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventure attraction. See all that stuff inside, kids? That's why your robots never worked.

A guest caught the incident on video, which you can see below. In the clip you can hear a voice say, "It's broken!"

As disturbing as it is, Ursula wan't the only head to roll at a Disney park last weekend. An auctioneer from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland Paris also appeared headless.

New permits reveal details on Magic Kingdom's next E-Ticket attraction
Posted By Ken Storey on Tue, Jan 30, 2018 at 7:00 am

Last year at D23, Disney confirmed that a new TRON indoor roller coaster would be coming to the Magic Kingdom. While the belief was this new signature attraction would open in time for the 50th Anniversary, we now have a better understanding of the timeline thanks to recently filed government paperwork.

In November, we saw Environmental Resource permits filed with the South Florida Water Management District that gave exact locations for both the TRON Lightcycle Power Run coaster, and the new Main Street theater. But the permits didn’t give much for details. However, now we have "notices of commencement" permits that tell us Disney is expected to break ground soon and gave us new details on who will be doing the work.

The permits filed with Orange County confirm that Disney has hired local construction company The Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. to oversee the project.

Like most construction permits, these documents don’t have exact dates on them, but they’re typically filed only when the design is set, and construction is about to begin. Using previous construction timelines, we can expect a two-year build timeline for TRON coaster. While the official groundbreaking at Shanghai Disneyland was in 2011, it wasn’t until late 2013 that construction truly took off with the first steel column laid in October 2013. The TRON attraction saw vertical construction by early 2014 and was testing with invited guests in spring of 2016.

We should see ground clearing and site preparation at the Magic Kingdom in the coming months with most of it taking place well before the rainy season. Once vertical construction does begin, which will likely be before the end of this year, the Walt Disney World Railroad will go down for at least a brief period since the TRON building stretches over the railroad.

The Tomorrowland Speedway will also go down for a brief period as it gets an update, which will likely include a slightly updated track and new theming. Tomorrowland as a whole is expected to get a major theme overhaul in the coming years, though that might be a few years after TRON opens.

All three attractions and the Main Street theater should be open by the 50th Anniversary celebration in 2021.

    'Her-story' in Disney animation
    By Chelsea Tatham
    [email protected]
When author and historian Mindy Johnson first visited the Walt Disney animation archives to research the women of the Ink and Paint department, she was handed a folder with just five pieces of paper inside.
About five years later, she published a hefty, almost 400-page illustrated work on the women who helped make Disney's animated films globally renowned. Ink & Paint: The Women of Walt Disney's Animationchronicles the careers of these artists, whose job it was to add colors and characters after animators were done sketching. The book follows the department, primarily made up of women, from the time of physically painting onto transparent celluloid to the beginnings of digital production.
'I had been led to believe, like anyone else, that it was simply pretty girls who traced and colored,' Johnson said. 'As I got into it, I learned about the landmark work accomplished by these women.' Johnson recently visited Epcot for the park's annual International Festival of the Arts. At panels during the festival's opening weekend, Johnson talked about writing Ink & Paint , released in September, and previous project
Tinker Bell: An Evolution along with the 'herstory' of women in animation.
'These women were artists in their own right; they were animating and moving color, and we don't talk about that,' she said. 'We focus on men wielding pencils, but there were women wielding pencils, as well.' Johnson actually worked at Disney doing global publicity for the classic animated films. Her time at Disney helped spark a passion for animation history, particularly the role women had and still have in bringing these culture-defining films to life.
'I love shedding light on those who normally wouldn't get the credit they deserve,' she said. 'Working with Disney legends, sharing these stories with new generations, finding a new way to tell them, finding the artists and voices behind the scenes - it's magical; timeless.' Ink & Paint brings together more than 130 interviews from the women of Disney's early Ink and Paint department and their families. Johnson spent countless hours digging through the Disney archives searching for every scrap of information on all the women who worked in Disney Animation Studios since its founding 95 years ago. Johnson met with influ ential women like Wilma Baker, who painted on Snow White.
Baker said at the time she didn't realize how extraordinary her job was.
Johnson also chronicled the story of Ink and Paint girl Ginni Mack, who died last year at 90, a groundbreaking artist at Disney Animation and is immortalized as the original model for Tinker Bell.
She said some of the greatest reactions she gets from the book came from the seminar at the International Festival of the Arts - one from a couple of older women and one from a 12-year-old aspiring artist.
'These ladies in their 60s pulled me aside later with tears in their eyes,' she said. 'They said, 'We had no idea women had such a major contribution.'' The 12-year-old girl said she had asked for Ink & Paint for Christmas and showed Johnson some of her work that she animates on her computer.
'I said, 'All right, this is for you,'' Johnson said. 'I told her she has incredible shoulders to stand on; the way has been paved for you. Focus on your art work and get out there with it.'
Epcot International Festival of the Arts
A celebration of visual, culinary and performance arts. Check out exhibits with work from legendary Disney artists, taste creative dishes and experience Disney on Broadway with performances by stars from The Lion King, Tarzan and more. The festival also includes work and performances from local artists in Orlando and around Central Florida. Through Feb. 19. Included with park admission.
