  1. I had no idea squirrels where such an issue - we never had any trouble with them when we where homeowners. Glad those days are behind us!
  2. My mother is walking over to our campsite this morning and she came accross a FW team member who was collecting rodent cages holding squirrels etc - it was kind of shocking. They just loaded them into a truck. I would have thought they would do that kind of thing at night. We have been joking all day about the Chip and Dale relocation program. We hope its catch and release.
  3. Thanks TCD - I had forgotten about that - we may give it a go in the morning. I really wouldnt have had them do anything differently. This is a vacation desination - not main st USA - if they can't ride their bikes here - without anyone yelling at them to get off the rd - than where can they ride them? Anyway - my son has already forgotten the whole incident - my husband doesnt care - he rather drink beer - so its all past tense.
  4. Lets be real here - I know alot of us think of the Fort as our home - but the majority of people here are on vacation. Some, possibly, not using their everyday street judgement - following the strictest adherence to FL state traffic laws. Ive been here two days and Im already tired of golf carts roaming around like they own the place. If kids can't ride their bikes on vacation - when should they ride them? We spent the entire summer at a golf cart friendly campground and never once were my kids yelled at by a golf cart rider. My kids are always supervised - we never let them run amuck - I
  5. eek - thanks for the heads up - I hope you get some sleep!
  6. It figures - always interesting to hear both sides. Im not going to justify our parenting decision to go on a bike ride at a campground - or try to convince you that my husband was paying attention to my kids - thats just nonsense - of course he was. I will say thats its lucky my husband is a teddy bear - and if it was you - I might suggest you watch your tone with strangers - especially when it it comes to dealing with other peoples kids. Not everyone is as friendly - if it was me with them it probably would have escalated. I guess I should also be appreciative that you didnt run over my
  7. I am way more aggressive when it comes to the protection of my kiddos.
  8. We arrived at the fort about two hours ago and my husband was already almost in a fist fight. My family (sans Momma and Baby) we riding their bikes through the loop (200) and they were yelled at to get out of the way. Now my 8 year old is just learning how to ride without training wheels - he is a bit "all over the place" - but come on - yelling at a little guy to get out of the way - hold your freakin horses. All I can say is that guy is lucky it wasnt Momma bear on the lead bike - he would be having an 18 speed surgically removed right about now.
  9. I actually think we are going to try and beat the weather and leave Tuesday night - get as far as we can while the kids sleep then hunker down for a feww days and make the rest of the trip. Travelling on the road with a 1 year old is not ideal
  10. This thread is incredible - thanks so much for sharing all your memories.
  11. Thank you so much for this Monique - very helpful
  12. We check in on the 11th and I’m not planning on decorating - don’t get me wrong - I desperately want to - but my new minimalist lifestyle doesn’t allow me to make unnecessary purchases. Maybe I should reassess . . . The more inflatable turkeys the better in my book.
  13. Thats terrific - (can't say Im surprised) - this is a great community with loads of helpful info - we all want you to have the best trip ever at the Fort!
  14. We dont have any space under our beds since its a hybrid. I really dont want to lug around a safe. I think Im just going to make sure we are heavily insured.
  15. We dont have that many - just a few laptops (4 actually). Do you have any kind of security ideas? Our camper is a 183L Rockwood Roo - the canvas sleeping areas make it less than secure even if we change the lock. We are really making alot of modifications so I was thinking perhaps a secret panel but perhaps thats too complicated and you might have a better idea. Thanks!
  16. In hindsight - I wish we had rented tents instead of dragging all our tents down to FL. We had the hardest time getting set up. So glad to have an RV now.
