My Little Piece Of Heaven

Ok, when we last left off, we had pulled into the campground around 3pm. Check in was a breeze, and we were soon being escorted to our campsite by two very nice guys in a golfcart. This place is a family operation, with 3 (at least) generations of the family running it (and living on site). Very nice, homeschooling, Christian family. The son of the owners, along with another nice gentleman named Bubba, escorted us and guided us into the site. And I mean GUIDED. They literally prompted my every turn of the steering wheel, avoiding trees, lining up perfectly with utilities and placing our trailer perfectly on the site in one try. I'm pretty comfortable backing up a trailer, but this was still a nice touch, especially for a campground with tight spaces and lots of trees.

Once we were backed in, we all got out of the van and admired our new home for the next three nights.

P1020063.JPG

And wow, what a spectacular home it was! We were backed up to a beautiful, babbling creek. This campground is situated along and around two creeks which split in the back of the campground and wind through the grounds. And like most creeks and rivers in the Smokies, it was full of rounded rocks and boulders that the water tumbles over. So not only was it pretty to look at, it had the most peaceful sound ever.

While we are walking around the trailer taking pictures, we may as well snap one of the back showing off my awesome Mickey decal...a Father's Day gift from It's Not Cindy, made by the uber talented Auburn Jen.

Also notice my super cool Musket Mickey tire cover! Best Ebay purchase evah!

We took a walk around the campground the check out our surroundings.

Anna loved walking in leaves. I doubt she had ever experienced that before.

P1020068.JPG

The campground has a cool wooden footbridge crossing one of the creeks, which connects the campsites to the pavilion and store.

Sisters enjoying their walk together.

Ok, so I was in absolute heaven. The scenery was spectacular, the weather couldn't have been more perfect, and I was with my family for a long weekend of camping. Can it get any better?

Well, actually it can! Cause we were expecting company that evening! My sister, who lives in Illinois, was visiting her daughter and husband in Knoxville for the weekend and were driving over to join us for dinner. They arrived around 5:00 and we had a very nice visit. After dinner, we had a campfire, and some of the adults and kids went to catch the Hey Hey Hay Ride with Yogi.

P1020083.JPG

After dark it got pretty chilly. Luckily we had a really nice fire by that time to sit around.

We played some games and enjoyed each other's company. And then, when it got cold enough that we weren't comfortable anymore, it was time for my sister and my niece to head home, and for us to head in to bed. We had a great first day, and this weekend had only just begun!

Coming up....You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me No Beer.

Wow! What a great day. And Anna is a little angel.

Thanks! She is my littlest camping buddy. Love that kid and her zest for life!

The campground looks great. Looks like a lot fun. When our daughter was younger she loved going to Jellystone Campgrounds.

It is a nice little place.

Dave, love the pics and the report so far. We may have to start a smoky mountian page soon. Looks like this destination is starting to catch on. :)

Yeah, there sure have been a number of these reports, haven't there? I hope people don't get sick of pics of Gatlinburg.

Love it! We've never been to a Jellystone CG. Lil' H would love that. Gabe probably would too.

What a beautiful view! And backing in guidance to boot!

Glad you got to spend time with your sis. :)

Thanks Kim! Y'all should check out a Jellystone sometime. Just be careful...some of them are a bit "run down". This one happens to be a good one. Maybe we should plan a GG there!

You Picked A Fine Time To Leave Me No Beer

This will be a relatively short update. Not because I can't fill up a page talking about inane things. But because the subject matter is probably the most controversial, traumatizing I've ever written about. I want to just get this out there, and then move on with the fun stuff.

So, here goes. I'm ripping off the Bandaid....

I had no beer this weekend. In fact, I had no alcohol of any kind.

:panic:

Yes, I know. Doesn't sound like camping, does it? :rofl2:

And why did I do this?

No, I don't have a drinking problem. I really don't drink that much in my daily life. Enjoy a beer now and then, and a scotch after work on a chilly evening. But that's about it. Except when I camp. It's my tradition, after driving to a campground, to enjoy a cold beer while setting up camp. And then to enjoy another while sitting under my awning admiring my work from setting up camp. And another while grilling something for dinner. I don't overdo it...but I enjoy it.

So again, why??

Well, I'm tryin' to take off some pounds before our Fort trip next month. And I decided to do a low carb thing that has worked in the past...this time I'm following South Beach. And I was in the middle of my first two week period, where you practically have no carbs, including no alcohol.

I know, stupid. Except that it's working. And yes, I'm aware that diets like this don't have long lasting effects. And that is the beauty of my plan. I don't care about long lasting effects. You see, my plan is to lose 12-15 pounds by mid-November before our trip. If I do that, I will consider this successful. And then, while spending 10 days at the Fort, my plan is to gain back those 12-15 pounds, leaving me back where I started. If I can accomplish that, then the Fort trip will be considered successful. :jumpforjoy

And how, you may be thinking, does this benefit you?? Well, it will take an awful lot of delicious food to gain 12 pounds over 10 days. And I intend to share pictures of all of that food with all of you. See?? It IS a good plan!

Oh, and there's another benefit to low carb eating. Can you guess what it is??

That's right.....

P1020095.JPG

BACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I cooked a LOT of bacon. That frying pan got a workout on this trip. But I also ate a ton of healthy stuff. Don't worry about my heart. Unlike some other low carb plans, South Beach makes you focus on the lean meats. So I am. And so far so good. And even though I thought that camping without beer would suck, we all agreed it was one of our best camping weekends ever. So it must not have put much of a damper on things for me after all.

Yes, I know. I probably need a reverse Fiend intervention now. :pope:

And since this update is low on pictures...let's throw in some shots of breakfast at the DaveInTN campsite.

P1020078.JPG

Yes, that's pizza for breakfast. You can send my father of the year award to my home address.

Funny, but when I tried to fill my mug at the office, they weren't too pleased.

P1020096.JPG

And some random shots of Anna enjoying our morning campfire.

P1020091.JPG

P1020093.JPG

P1020094.JPG

After breakfast, our plan was to head to Walmart for some provisions, and then to go to a pumpkin patch that I had found through an internet search. And it was there, that we experienced the Slide of Death! :wetpants:

Sorry, it's all down hill from here.

I know that. I was just trying to give you a little encouragement.

Hang on here a minute!

What the Fort is going on in that photo?

What's with the werewolf?

And the dude with the parachute pants and the boots?

What kind of place is this?

Yep. That's father of the year material there!

Good job!

I can't wait to hear about the slide of death!

ahhh.. your making my friday morning alot brighter around the office of death. I tried the low carb thing but I simply NEED (as doodle says) a beer in the evening to wind down, thus the reason I've accept I'm "fluffy" for life :rofl2: I NEED to get Anna's cheeks.. I have alot of NEEDS dont I?

and what's wrong with pizza for breakfast?? It's one of my favorites :)

We must be related.

What is wrong with Fluffy? I'll tell ya, NOTHING! When the famine hits, I am going to outlast all these stinking skinny people.

Just remember pizza for breakfast and beer at night. Don't confuse them.....then again.......

I need to stop calling it a diet. It's more like a Fort Fiend Fat-Ass Savings Account. I'm putting pounds into it today...and will withdraw them next month! :rofl3:

FFFSA, if it was only tax deffered or tax free.

Next October?? I don't want it to compete with Stone Mtn. But it is definitely a good idea!

Hang on here a minute!

What kind of place is this?

You know, I hadn't even noticed the werewolf. It was a Halloween themed weekend...but even so, that's kinda creepy. I may need to rethink this GG at this place.

Ok...so pizza for breakfast is good. And camping without beer is bad.

I think I got it.

We must be related.

What is wrong with Fluffy? I'll tell ya, NOTHING! When the famine hits, I am going to outlast all these stinking skinny people.

That's exactly what I tell my wife! As soon as society collapses, it will be all those skinny big city folks and Hollywood nutcases that collapse first when their Starbucks and their little cafes and bistros close. And then we will bask in the glory of our big fat victory!

That's why the second half of my plan involved gaining it all back at the Fort. Remember...it's a savings account. Kinda like a 9-9-9 plan. Take 9 pounds off today, then gain 9 pounds back in 9 days at the Fort.

Holy crap...I'm a freakin' GENIOUS!

Sounds like a great plan to me!

BTW... pizza for breakfast? Not a problem. Our county serves it for breakfast in the schools. It must be nutritious if the school system approves of it. :rofl2:

Your nomination for Dad of the Year Award is still in tact.

oh yeah... great TR.... and NO....no one will get tired of the Smokey Mt. reports. At least I won't.

H wanted to know if they had to pay extra for the rights to use Yogi. I told him "duh! It's Jellystone! He LIVES there!" Jeesh!
